Since a a thumb drive could be formatted with encryption for security, why couldn’t it be used to store cryptocurrency as opposed to a hardware wallet? Is a hardware wallet that much more reliable against data corruption?

what keeps me from just trying 12 or 24 words since you dont have a username - password kombination it should be easy to automate it -> check if there is something in the wallet -> if not moving on to another word kombination? a good computer should be able to do that a couple million times a day or am i wrong?

This is the best explanation on how wallets work that I have ever seen Thank you There is obviously a lot more to the subject, but this is what you need to know as a beginner Also hardware wallets is expensive There is a way to convert some of the memory in your PC to a virtual hard drive Create your wallet on the new virtual drive Get the 12 words and save an encrypted image of the disk to a normal flash drive Now destroy the virtual disk and defrag the memory This is just a temporary solution until you can buy a propper hardware wallet
