As someone with the D5100 and D7000, they’re still going strong today I’d recommend the D7000 as there is a motor in the body that can focus non motorized lenses This lets you save money on lenses that are manual focus only These cameras have been to 5 continents and nearly 50 countries They’ve been dropped, rained on, etc and they’re still going strong I highly recommend as your first camera

i have a d7000 a d7100 and a d500 and a d850 all still in use and I love them all20 35 50 85 18, a100 tokina 28 macro, a 135 DC f2 and a 180 28 D and the 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200 and the 200-500 and for DX 10-24 and a 17-70 2,8-f4 for vid i cant afford z9, so i still use the A7S3

The worst mistake a photographer can make is spend a lot of money on gear Image Quality has not evolved since the Film days buy something that doesn't cost much I work in Commercial photography and i still shoot on a Zenza Bronica S2A that i bought 31 years ago Gear does not matter Mega Pixel do not matter Dynamic Range, Bitdepth all completely useless stats on a datasheet

Have been using D7000 since the day I got into relationship from random clicks to amazing shots it’s just a beautiful experience It’s been 10 yrs things have changed, newer cameras have come every other Joe is mentioning Sony so or Sony so! But to an average photographer or ever for professionals I think Nikon is more than enough! I could still d7000 for stills! It’s beautiful! Spend time with a camera and get to feel like home before purchasing other!

D3200-D3500 have image quality that still holds up today and Nikon produced them with little regard for actual demand, leading to ample supply and low prices that persist to this day If you're okay with the (lack of) features they could be good value for money

I moved up to my D3 from a D7000 I found the 7000 pretty poor for destructive noise, but the images were otherwise very punchy AF was also questionable with certain lenses which was a bit annoying

I'd avoid the D3000 & D5000 series all together as they can't use many Nikon lensesbrbrThe D300 or D300s are worth buyingbrThe D7000 series is also worth buying, however you're better off buying the D300, D700, or D3
