Thank you so much for sharing this the information is very helpful in my journey of learning to play the guitar Since I finally learned to play “horse with no name” (thanks to you Lauren you can be proud) and I did it deliberately handicapping myself by using medium gauge strings I’m now going to treat myself by switching back to the light gauge strings and see how much easier it is to play I’ve decided it’s time to buy a real guitar compared to the super cheap mail order one I have now So, I’m buying the auditorium size crafter (same as yours) it looks and sounds really good when you play I’ll let you know how it turns out 🎼🎸 Comment from : @marccracchiolo4935 |

Great presentation! I’ been playing for 15 years now, in a band I’ve been bouncing back and forth on different strings; I have 4 different Martin guitars, so they kind of require different strings I like Lights on my 2 Dreadnaught I’m presently using Martin Phospher Bronze on them I use Custom light on my 12 string Dreadnaught, I’m trying Stringjoy, but they seem a little too bright for me My last strings tarnished bad and quickly, but they were light and sounded better They were D’Addario I might try D’Addario light again, but coated I have Stringjoy on my Martin CEO-7, a 00 size guitar that I recently purchased for Fingerstyle Not sure I like them What do you prefer for Fingerstyle? Yay for d’adario I found out depending on the guitar , the string size makes a huge difference I tried lights on my epiphone teaxan inspired and it sounded horrible It was like a hallow tin can sound :( I was confused, but after throwing mediums back on, it just sounded right It was weird but I learned something Great video Comment from : @starfox2215 |
I finally realized -- it's really what your ear likes For me it's the martin retros ( nickel ) it doesn't get any better than that for me Comment from : @karlparsons2031 |

I've just bought an Acoustasonic, and I'm looking for the right strings The last ones here, the hybrid ones, seem like a good choice Comment from : @Wombles_Wanderings |

Lauren, what's your opinion on Elixir acoustic strings? Comment from : @esf7610 |
According to my experience playing for more than 15 years, elixir nanoweb 12-53 is best in terms reliability, good balanced tone It' will last more than a year for sure It's little bit brighter but if your tonewood is mahogany, it sounds great It doesn't work in rosewood back and sides Because it will be overtoned If you like warm tone, i would suggest daddario XS strings Either elixir nanoweb or daddario XS Comment from : @stegingeorge8861 |
Best ones for sore fingers please Lauren, you're a legend 🎉 Comment from : @billyray323 |

The electric guitar timestamp is also called acoustic Comment from : @endezeichengrimm |

My guitar action is growing and had light elixer strings on it😞brI'm giving the guitar a break and hope it sets back on its ownbrAnyways! Was wondering, my guitar is a cedar top and used 80/20 for the bright sound If i were to go with custom or extra light would i get better sound with phosphorus or 80/20? Comment from : @willywantoknow2563 |

Any thoughts, and or recommendations on nylon strings? I'm 76 and just beginning with a Yamaha C40II Classical guitar which has nylon strings and more likely than not I'll be changing them out for better strings Comment from : @philwilliams8328 |
Hi Lauren Thanks for the video I think you need to revise the links above in the description Comment from : @onthetrailwithbart523 |

I've been playing for about 2 years (started when I was already old) and have found the best strings for me on my acoustic are the same 12's that you prefer My first acoustic was really poorly set up (and I did not know any better) so barre chords were impossible I now have a much better acoustic - Martin - and have it set up properly Still no expert on barre chords but a darn sight easier with the right strings and the good set up Before going to the Martin I bought a Strat This with 9 - 42's made practicing so much easier and I could at least have a go at barre chords I'm not power chord guy so the 42's are fine for the low end Thanks for the video! I have played the blues for some time now, but the bending was a little dead not feeling to "Joe Bonamassa" , so I gave a try on 09 Hybrid and the game changed I thought was something wrong with my amp at first but now even a little bedroom amp does the show Thank you so much for your time Comment from : @pauloevans7180 |
WOW That's exactly what I use in my Taylor 814 I call it 12 gauge I have tried 13 gauge, but prefer the 12s 👍 Comment from : @fryeguy9939 |
Lauren do you like the elixirs that the 324 came with or are you switching to your d addarios you like? I like the elixirs better than the Daddario on the Taylor 324 but I’m torn I even bought some Martin strings to try next Ugh Comment from : @RLHumpert |
Appreciate your tips on strings You mentioned you live in a coastal area and the salt affects your choice Any thoughts on arid climates? Thanks Comment from : @timfrench8963 |
Do you stay with acoustic when you play an electric acoustic verses the ones like on your wall Comment from : @michellewiklund8831 |
I'm a beginner playing a fender cf140 My fingers were KILLING me! The music store guy recommended D'Addario 11-47 silk and steel (warm mellow tone) what say you? Good choice for a beginner? Comment from : @debramarshall7264 |

I bought a new Epiphone hummingbird Pro for Christmas 2 years ago it's acoustic electric No guitar sound better when it's hooked to and amplifier But playing just the acoustic the bass string don't sound out very good The 3 hi string are ok Think I will try those XL strings you talked about and see if they help Comment from : @edwardpuddy1552 |
I have found the the one dollar strings I order from china last longer that any or the name brands I have tried And side by side they do not rust up No they are not coated just better steel And if you have ever done a slide down a rusted string you will know it hurts Comment from : @edwardpuddy1552 |
I play lead and I have found the d'addario nyxl 9-42 to be ideal Of course one could even opt for 8s, as recommended by Billy Gibbons of ZZ top Comment from : @cavaturnagesh |
I've tried many acoustic strings and have found I like the D'Addario XS Phosphor Bronze medium Love the way they sound on my Epiphone Hummingbird Pro sound Seem to stay in tune and they last longer than others I've used Comment from : @warrenriner2309 |
Bought the D'Addario 12s phosphor bronze as suggested and they are my new favorite strings and btw I love the black Gretsch on the wall Comment from : @FlugHerr |

Lauren, Excellent Advise & spot on, just my opinion Comment from : @peterhaynes8258 |
Thank you, Lauren I asked the music store that I bought an Ibanez semi-hollow electric from about strings since Ibanez specs listed 10-52 thousandths (inch diameter, or gauge), no brand spec, and they recommended NYXL 10-47, so I picked up a set of those and the same set of Reverend Willie's strings to try when the time comes William F Gibbons explained that he started out thinking he needed to play with bigger strings for a bigger sound, until BB King watched him on stage, and told him that he didn't need to work so hard, so he settled on 7 gauge string sets Andy Taylor Powers said, in a guest appearance on Taylor Guitars Primetime, "Picks & Strings", to 'think of strings for your guitar like tires for your car' (There's a song lyric) It depends on what you want to do with it There are so many options, and not all are in the big Sweetwater "Wish Book" that came in the mail April 1, 2021 Working Level 1 Musician friends agree, after I tell them about your workbook introduction to the course, "Yes, that's the kind of instructor we need after being away from music for twenty years (or more)" Sending praise for finding this course and instructor Comment from : @charlesbranch4120 |
Thanks teaching what types of guitar ,now if anybody ask what kind guitar you are using now tell them acoustic guitar Comment from : @antonioafonso5719 |
I have been told not to change guage on my Martin because the neck will change and you will have to get it adjusted, went from 13s to 12s and so far no problems, what is your opinion Comment from : @jodyjames3533 |
I use D'Adario light gage phosphor bronze on my Gibson Songwriter Nice bassier tone and they sustain quite a lot I get a good two months on a set before I change them I bought the ten set box which is about $7500 (Canadian) and that's nearly two years of string changes! Also GHS Fast Fret string cleaner helps promote string life! Comment from : @vincentlussier8264 |

Why is the color of the hybrid exp125’s Comment from : @frankbeckendorf667 |

👍 Comment from : @tesshill6358 |

great tips Lauren I may give those hybrids a try on my electric Concept sounds great I tried the NYXL already on a few electrics with so so results I have done research on the nickel wounds and they have gotten some great feedback I need to tame down one of my strats with the highs A but too trebely for my taste I'am hoping the nickel wound will mellow them out Comment from : @nyacoustics8373 |

Out of 36 yrs things have changed brands like Martin fell behind and Ernie Ball went to the top I use Ernie Ball Light 10 on acoustic and 09 to 08 on electric I started with medium and unknowingly it created strength Merry Christmas Comment from : @gregoryb2999 |
Yes, you are correct - Strings are totally subjective I found that going to a lighter string makes it easier for me to play I use 011-052 - 010 are too light for acoustic for me, but I do use 010 on Electric guitar I find 009 too light & slinky I’ve experimented a lot with strings Elixirs will last longer than D’Addario’s because they’re coated Only catch - Yes, Elixirs are expensive So, you might go through the same amount of D’Addario’s money-wise as one set of Elixirs Comment from : @3cardmonty602 |
Thanks for the job ,Lauren ,and I enjoy all your videos Comment from : @Zico804 |
