quick question: I do dca on swissborg regularly ($50 by $50), and when I have about $500 in btc in my account, I send them to my ledger so I receive only 1 utxo right? Comment from : @maxd4119 |
Wow, fascinating video Now, I have to find a wallet with some UTXOs Thank you Comment from : @cx1291 |
Very interesting!brbrI move my BTC from Ndax when I'm around 100 CAD, 0001 BTC So now I have a large pile of UTXOs valued around 100 CAD each How I understand this, if I wanted to send 1000 worth out I'm sending approx 10 UTXOs out and I'd get a new UTXO back for change My fees will be higher than they would be if I had sent 1 UTXO valued at 1000 CAD brbrDid I understand correctly?brbrI think I'm probably safer/better off to leave it as is and not consolidate what I have BUT moving forward I'll build up a much larger amount on NDAX before moving it so I have a larger UTXO for a more expensive purchase in the futurebrbrbrLove the videos Comment from : @danmanr |
Does anyone have any online faucets they can recommend? Been trying for three days now to get some testnet BTC but none are working for me Comment from : @AwestruckChemicals |
another great video finally followed this video step by step thank you Comment from : @cryptosfool |

Just installed the sparrow wallet Why can't I find all my addresses? I did Discovery option, but it only found a few Comment from : @DorangoBread |
Hi @Matt brAbout not consolidate all the UTXOs in just 1 single UTXOI recap you sample of a UTXO worth 3 BTC (each BTC 1M)brIn case someone did consolidate like you said and the the BTC price is 1M$, and he wants to purchase the house worth 1M, to avoid exposing the whole 3BTC, he could split the UTXO in 2 sending to himself 1 BTC and getting "the change" of 2 BTC with another UTXObrIs this correct ?brOr am I understanding nothing ?brIn the second case it not because of you, but become of my dumb head ! Comment from : @iBG24 |
I tried to download the sparrow wallet but it was very difficult to verify the download in order to install I was able to verify the first step but once I needed to verify the second step, I believe it was the exe file using the terminal, I could never get it to find the exe file even though I typed everything in word for word plus made the change for the update version It just couldn’t find the exe file to confirm/verify the hash I’m not super computer savvy when it comes to the terminal I tried it with the zip file and it worked but was not able to install Help would be appreciated or if there is an easier way to download and verify the files haven’t been corrupted I’m all ears Thank you for posting these videos I have learned a lot from watching this channel Comment from : @Dunnj13 |
Is sparrow wallet still a widely used software for Bitcoin? most tutorials are 1yr old will it recognize utxo with inscriptions so I dont risk spending them? Comment from : @ky-effect2717 |
Wow… I didn’t realize I was such an idiot by dollar cost averaging very, very small purchases ($10-50) off of STRIKE and sending them straight to my cold wallet… I bet I have an outrageous amount of UTXOs… Comment from : @Cheyemos |
Is there a block explorer that shows a wallet's utxos? Comment from : @InnerKnowledgeSeeker |
Aren’t the bitcoin miners going to have UTXO issues in the future as the rewards get closer and closer to zero? Comment from : @sethkeyser7161 |
Thanks for the great content I need some help with my Blockstream Jadeduring set up I chose multi-sig set up, and have subsequently bought BTC a couple of times With hindsight, I should have opted for single-sig as I am a newbie and just getting to grips with everything Can I change this wallet from multi-sig to single-sig, or do I have to start again? Comment from : @ruar_arly |
What size do you recommend consolidating to? Not depended on the amount owned Thanks in advance Matt! Comment from : @hdog17 |
Hi , I'm finding it difficult to connect to leger from sparrow, just doesn't seem to show up Following instructions exactly as above , have entered pin on the ledger etc it's is a ledger Nano S Comment from : @stephenburns433 |
In your video, you mentioned that it's relatively straightforward to trace the history of UTXOs (Unspent Transaction Outputs) from the ledger Using your example of buying a house, it seems the owner could trace the origin of UTXOs, even if they were split before being sent My understanding leads me to wonder: is it feasible to track the history of an entire wallet on the ledger? Specifically, can one trace that the UTXOs in question were once part of the same wallet? Comment from : @mfmello |
in your second scenario, should 1 bitcoin utxo and 2 bitcoin utxo be in different bitcoin addresses? If these two UTXOs are in the same address, the seller still knows the buyer has 2 bitcoins left Comment from : @datvuong7420 |
I’ve watched this & other related videos here regarding UTXO’s I’ve taken my time & followed your instructions step by step using the sparrow wallet & connected my jade after about 1/2 wait for my jade to connect it’s saying I’ve no UTXO’sbrbrI’ve been DCA small amounts for over 3 yrs nowbrbrIs this a freak possibility? Comment from : @DJ-vi8no |
I was wondering if you tried the aqua wallet yet for a small amounts It's a it looks interesting I think it's a hot wallet but just curious Comment from : @BasicBeachCommunity1 |
I really like this type of video I mean and especially because you're showing people how to use the test net so if we make an error it's a good way to learn instead of losing money Losing Bitcoin Very interesting as well Comment from : @BasicBeachCommunity1 |
Thanks, Matt! Would reusing receive addresses reduce the need to consolidate UTXOs? On the other hand: Wouldn’t consolidating UTXOs be bad for privacy in the same sense that reusing addresses is bad? Comment from : @vejoshiraptor |
Why is using a different vendor/company for your hardware wallet and your software more secure? You mentioned it would require both companies to collude to compromise you, but it seems to me that if EITHER company was comprised, you’re screwed So it doubles your attack surface Plugging a healthy hardware wallet into compromised software is bad Connecting a compromised hardware wallet into healthy software is bad What is the extra security layer you’re referring to? Comment from : @vejoshiraptor |
Can you show how to view the UXTOs on the green wallet by blockstream? I'm sure there are others who didnt want to download sparrow wallet Comment from : @Jay-sz8vz |
So, this is basically taking 5 $1 bills and exchanging them for a single $5 bill Minus an exchange rate I guess Comment from : @rayb7004 |
Tnx Comment from : @denissego8554 |
Again Mat, these UTXO videos have been very helpful, look forward to your video on Phoenix's wallet Comment from : @weepz |
I am enjoying this mini series of UTXOs and Bitcoin fees you are currently showing Don't worry about repetition, it is a good thing, especially on something as important as this Comment from : @nonshatter7 |
This is a huge help Thanks for all of your hard work Matt! Comment from : @marinatinshred |
I really appreciate these videos Matt Comment from : @PatrickJamesCasey |
Why is it bad to consolidate UTXOs from multiple recipients? What happens if you don’t know the recipients from previous transactions? Comment from : @Michael-rx7ot |
Thank you, Matthew! Comment from : @STP134 |
It’s taken me about 5 or 6 videos from about 3 different channels to finally wrap my brain around this, and it’s actually not that hard to understand, now that I understand it lol brbrIt’s just a lot of new information, kind of like learning about BTC for the first time brbrThanks for the detailed videos on the subject Comment from : @onehappydawg |
Thanks for another very informative video! 8 look forward to the next one about lightning, as I’ve not been able to set it up on either Muun or Blue Wallet I also wonder what’s the difference between lightning and liquid? Comment from : @bigboiwaffle5076 |
Do utxo’s have to be consolidated into an address from the same wallet? I think not but would like to clarify Comment from : @tu8z |
Hey Matt, can you confirm for me that once I have my private key backed up, I can lose/break my hardware device as many times as I like, using the private key/back up phrase to restore the wallet back into any new hardware device?? Thanks Comment from : @tu8z |
Can you talk more about UTXO management in regard to bitcoin mining? If someone is running a bitmain s21 in their garage and sending 60,000 sats / day to the same hardware wallet, would that create a really high fee if they ever want to move it? Should you mine into a software wallet like phoenix first? Comment from : @SenditBTC |
Hey Matthew! Simple question Pay back Student loans or stack sats? Comment from : @kwbnsika |
Why did they go after Tornado Cash so hard, yet Coinjoin seems to sail? Comment from : @johnjordansailing |
Theoretical question: Tomorrow after the ETF is approved, $BTC rockets up to $1m… would fees really stay up that high or would they plummet, because suddenly a few sats is more than the total fees (in US$ terms) of todays sats are? Comment from : @MarkovAllTrades |
What is your opinion on Strike as a company?brI don't think i need self custody for lightning as i'd only need it for relatively small transactions Comment from : @teatowel11 |
Thank you for the video! Do you think it would be better if Bitcoin fees were based on the value of your transaction rather than the amount of inputs/vB? Comment from : @simonmaersk |
Do you need to test a transaction with every new passphrase? (If you use passphrases as a way to separate accounts) Comment from : @TEAMOneMillion |
Thanks for this (and your previous) videos on UTXOs Great explanation about what they are and why it makes sense to manage them I was easily able to consolidate my UTXOs with my Trezor Will also be looking more into Sparrow Comment from : @wpneal1969 |
verry tehnical this utxos topic but most of us dont realy care about it can u cover better topics lik eprice/news based instad?br? tnxbrbrprice/news based? tnx Comment from : @MarioDub6851 |
For those wondering, Trezor suite will try to manage your UTXOs for you automatically when you send BTC However, it is way easier to visualize on Sparrow Comment from : @dammain1068 |
How about the Aqua Wallet? Comment from : @caruya |
1 Million sats UTXOs is my safe zone Comment from : @mr_digdeeper |
Great stuff manbrLove this series! Comment from : @joey86bu1 |
Is there a way to un-KYC your sats? If that makes sense? Does just creating a new address and sending your sats to the new address do the job? Great videos btw Thanks Comment from : @JuniperDustFarmBoy |
good video again Comment from : @Adriano-wg2em |
If all of my btc is in a multi-sig does this affect anything? Thanks for all your videos! Comment from : @markc320 |

Really enjoying these more technical videos Previously lots of reiterating of why BTC is the best money - always encouraging, but new info like this is more practical Looking forward to the upcoming lightning videos in particular - how to actually use it without custodial wallets like Strike Comment from : @wanderer29903 |
Thank u Comment from : @MovingFwrd |
I’ve been getting these fake crypto ads almost every time I log on to YouTube Featuring not just Michael Saylor but others as well (Charles Hopkinson, Vitalik Buterin and more) Obviously fake AI generated videos, but what amazes me is that these are clearly PAID advertisements How and why is YouTube accepting payments from and promoting these fake scamsters?!! I’m truly scratching my head here brbrAs far as I know there’s no way to report an ad to YouTube Wow! Is all I can say Comment from : @Jabber_Wock |

Perfect timing! This is exactly what I needed! Comment from : @LifeForkB21 |
Great tip on increasing security by using a different software than the one that comes from the hardware wallet you use Definitely going to be implementing that in the future Quick question similar to the one you addressed towards the end of the video If I am DCAing on another app such as coinbase or strike, when I transfer lumps of that to a cold storage, say every couple of months, that should automatically consolidate the UTXOs into the lumps that are transferred on that regular basis right? Comment from : @BTC_Rocketship |
While the BTC world is going insane over the coming ETF Matt sticks to the equally if not more important topics of educating all of us on how to keep our Bitcoin safe and sound What good does it do you to have BTC if you can't keep it safe Your BTC possesion is only as good as your POWER OF HODL Matt is a conductor of this power Easy as that We all must become superheroes of HODL 😁 Comment from : @thfall1020 |
Will Bitcoin transaction fees scale with the price of Bitcoin? Comment from : @trenton1190 |
that’s exactly what i needed thank you Comment from : @mrpaddingtonn |
Awesomethe best thanks Comment from : @Column1 |
Hey Matt Thanks for all you do and for orange pilling me in 2021 I'll be forever grateful I want to use Sparrow to consolidate my UTXOs and I tried to install Bitcoin Core on my computer so I can use my own node but I got a fatal error at some point so I scrapped the thing for now Should I be concerned with using a node other than mine for security reasons while using Sparrow? Comment from : @nickmancini11 |
Not sure there is a privacy improvement in keeping seperate UTXOs if they are from the same address If I receive 1 BTC from someone, I can see his/her address and all the UTXOs (consolidated or not) linked to it So you would need to split UTXOs on different addresses, and also ensure no address re-use for change addresses In Trezor Suite you can work with different accounts which makes that easier Not sure how that works on Sparrow brIn any case, thanks for the great videos! Comment from : @tintin1er |
Wow I had no idea Sparrow was this useful Very helpful, thank you Comment from : @lastnamefirstname2390 |
If you buy bitcoin on an exchange as a market order compared to a limit order does that create different amounts of UTXO’s Comment from : @mikethomas2181 |
When bitcoin bitcoin is that let’s see 500,000 does that mean we won’t be able to move a small slice of bitcoin or how will the price of the fees adjust Comment from : @mikethomas2181 |
Thanks so much for the great video once again Matt!brAlso, I've now started self hosting my own bitcoin payment for my business :D Comment from : @Kirai |
Bitcoin 🧡🧡🧡 Comment from : @BatmanBoss |
Your videos are very valuable I've been running a full node with indexing turned on and I haven't had a chance to explore the blockchain at this level of detail yetbrGiven a pay to address, can someone see all the UTXOs associated with that wallet? Comment from : @Fudmottin |
Is it a good idea to top up addresses that have a low amount of sats in them to get each address up to 3 million ish? Comment from : @OG-gv5hl |
Love the content Matthew, you’ve been a huge help! Comment from : @stevenfoley1971 |
Managed to verify Sparrow, not easy Got my UTXOs consolidated at very reasonable fees Thx for being patient and holding our hands Matt I’m ready for what’s next and totally understand this now Comment from : @RaveDaze |

Thanks Matthew 🙏 🙏 Comment from : @yehimstone5492 |
Hi Matt! When using RBF, what happens to the commission you already paid on the unconfirmed transaction? Do you end up paying the old plus the new fee, or just the new one? Comment from : @Dan-lw4vh |
Also be aware that Sparrow Wallet is DESKTOP ONLY There are fake mobile wallets popping up with the Sparrowv name, and they are keyloggers Ask me how I know Comment from : @SailingIndependence |
TL;DW (actually, I did watch it all) do we need to know this, and are these transactions the same as "dust" leftover each time? Comment from : @IaintTheHerb |
Sorry, if i do not plan to do any transactions soon, am I right that i can postpone studing of this topic? Comment from : @varshykable |
