I think you should differentiate between the CVTs that you describe (getting optimum efficiency from a small/hybrid engine) and the CVTs that you can find very often in American cars In the US a very large percentage of cars have had their torque converters replaced with CVTs with 8-10 fake gears At that point there is no advantage, it's just cost-saving and makes for a less reliable transmission

I think i understand, correct me if im wrong, but with automatic transmission i dont need to manually switch the gears, but can do it using the buttons next to the driving wheel when i wanna switch into a different gear like park or reverse? I have comparehenion issues so please correct me
