Jens, loved it You're not afraid to try and to look bad It just seems this super low position makes it difficult for you to stay out of the back seat Maybe Tom is gifted with a hip flexibility that permits him to find center while skiing in this position Comment from : @tompem |
The best explanation i've ever seen on youtube I will try to aply THX Comment from : @szelmatok4622 |

Great video! Am I right that these are SL (Slalom ; short radius) skis with a 3-degree side wall? Best to learn on SL skis, correct? Comment from : @thecuriositygene |
My son (13) and I (51) are inspired to learn this skill and are tackling this together -- quick question -- is it easier or harder to achieve with racing slalom skis / short radius skis brbrLove your content and this video in particular is helping us have fun while leveling up! Thank you!! Comment from : @metropolis9248 |
why two lines on each graph? Is one for the left leg, the other for the right leg? Comment from : @Андреич-с4н |
Damn, that final run might be a bit wobbly, but you can't deny those edges are engaging super early Can't wait to try this Comment from : @michiel2047 |

So this is like old guys going Funcarving (like Walter Kuchler sad) , ski on Up leg And feel the carv… I realy dont Get it, you show that 70-80 is on down leg in turn but the last exercise was like old schol (UP leg ) , or I just feel it different ? brNice And perfect film I wish to life now as a teenagher but im 40 And no ACL in my knee 😂 brGreatings from Poland Comment from : @_adam__luka |

OK, I guess I'll be the downer here: What's the point of hip-dragging as an objective?brbrI came up racing, and this certainly wasn't something that we viewed as beneficial Being able to carve efficiently at high edge angles absolutely will make you faster and a better skier (and drills that help you do that like the hand-drag are beneficial), but getting your hip down on the snow is about as functionally useful as the old-school 70s "backseat butt-wiggle" Elite racers absolutely do hip-check sometimes (an infamous example was Tomba in the Sierra Nevada GS World Champs in 1996), but when they do so it's regarded as a mistake because it costs them edge grip by taking pressure off of the outside skibrbrAs Tom himself more or less spells out, you have to sacrifice legitimately beneficial technical attributes like edge similarity and core alignment to get your hip that low, so if anything you're corrupting your edging technique for show when you do this My $002, but again I'm an ex-racer so I tend to judge more by objective metrics (edge angles, turning forces/Gs, time through a course) than by appearance I do think that good clean racing technique also ilooks/i good for the most part, with a few exceptions like Tomba and Miller in the early parts of their respective careersbrbrOn a positive note Tom's "in-rigger" drill is a really useful one Film of elite racers from the last couple decades reveals that they increasingly use that technique for exactly the reasons Tom describes: It allows them to build edge angles above the fall line without "toppling" out of balance and being forced to edge too rapidly A related drill is to make the initiation phase as long as possible - you can't do that if you've overcommitted to the new turnbrbrBTW part of the reason Tom has to keep his inside leg so vertical is because those Fischer boots are slightly adducted such that there's more overhang to the outside than in most boots I used to ride Nordica Doberman Aggressors that were even more adducted, and noticed that they tended to boot out the iinside/i ski like that Also, the current crop of 80 mm "recreational carving" skis are less prone to booting out in general You wouldn't want to race on those, but they're perfectly good for stuff like this Comment from : @patrickchase5614 |
My goal for this season too!! Thanks for making this content Love your work!! Comment from : @JonahJonesy |
Great video Interesting to note the difference between Jens’ and Tom’s posture when first attempting the in-rigger drill Closing the back angle made all the difference 👍 Comment from : @MrWolfyWolfy |

Instant classic Comment from : @dominikbylica5131 |
great video Jens and Tom -- after having watched most of previous Tom´s videos I was also under the impression that I had to create "instability" in order to topple into the new turn I wonder if Tom changed his way of seeing it happen as in his older videos it seems pretty clear that the message he wanted to come across wasn't exactly the way you learned it in this video which by the way makes much more sense any thoughts? Comment from : @morvieto |
Awesome drill demonstration to advance your skiing I'm frothing 20 years ago, I do believe I was doing that though I wasn't focused on it 62 now, don't know when I'll get back out there I'd love to log this drill Early am,1st runs on the groomed corduroyoh yea Comment from : @softhotty |
What Fischer Curv and Atomic are you on? Thinking of getting a 75mm R15-16 for this, like Curv GTX or Thunderbird R15 WB Is that a good choice for some versatility too, or is narrower and shorter radius better? Comment from : @petterastrom4322 |
What was Jen’s skiIQ at the start and end It would be so helpful to see those numbers to see what I’m looking like vs this This video was well done and seems like it will have a big impact for good on my skiing! ❤ Comment from : @TaylorMoss15 |
@11:00 similar to counter-steering a motorcycle… excellent tip ! Comment from : @Pathological_Flyer |

Great Video!brI've been struggeling for years to get my hip into the snow, not successfully so farbrHow important is the ski radius/length?brHow important is the ground angle of the edge? Comment from : @68BeBe |
Interesting video If you look at Jens latest turns you see that his inside knee points in the wrong direction: to the inside of the turn This may block his pelvis from falling into the turn Also this indicates too much pressure on the inside Comment from : @dj_617 |
I don't know how your ski iq is only 165 I think it's higher 😅 Comment from : @paulrudd9609 |
Grreat fun to watch this clip For the fun: What ski length and whats the Radius on the skis? Comment from : @andreasdahl717 |

That was impressive!! My goals have just been readjusted altho I'm expecting a much longer learning curve Note to Tom: ur "outrigger" style drill seen in context like this is really relevant previously, I was sceptical Comment from : @undrellx |
It seems like he’s sitting pretty far in the back? How can you get very low and not get your weight in the back? Comment from : @Mr_Erikson0704 |
Great what about gear? Comment from : @folkertvinke6155 |

Meggaaaa Comment from : @AlexanderSpray-xm9vw |
Wow I am excited even just by watching it ❤ Comment from : @shawnli9258 |
Great video To carve a great high speed gs turn, the hips make the movement and the feet follow Comment from : @johnmcalester5165 |
Amazing Video! Thank you! I just have a short question regarding the inside knee after watching the video several times brI understand why pushing the knee to the slope would cause a slip, but isn’t concentrating one’s thoughts on pulling the knee crazy high actually creating the danger of transferring weight on the inside ski?brIf you concentrate on 90/10 weight on outside ski and pushing the knee to the hill- wouldn’t you achieve the same result?brbrThank you and I would be happy for a discussion!😊 Comment from : @geoetheridge3981 |
Can't wait to try it Thanks a lot for sharing the secret recipe with us! Comment from : @gregor1 |
Thank you, Team! Amazing collaboration, explanations and reflections on the feeling- very helpful Looking forward to trying out the drills next weekend (also with the new upgraded Carv 😉) Comment from : @dimitrikutsenko8229 |

Awesome video, how steep are the runs you used for these drills? Like an easy red (europe)? Comment from : @Matias-gf3ed |
