AI got me back into language learning It's not perfect but if you are careful and cross check the information you get, the benefits massively outweigh any drawbacks It really shines when I think I know what's going on but I don't feel sure

ChatGPT and the likes are FANTASTIC tools to proofread translations and explain grammar or vocabulary I agree that using apps to straight up communicate in your stead is missing the point of learning a language, but at the same time that is also missing the point of those apps At the end of the day most people (including educated people) are too lazy or busy to learn an entire language from scratch but they also want to be able to order a croissant while in Paris or something I don't think the actual language learning community will be much impacted by this, even in the long-term

I fully agree, short but very clear content in this video, very strong message I think people misunderstood how and when we should use AI, ChatGPT, Perplexity and so on those are only a bit more advanced search engines They seem to be so smart but when you look closely, they are not We should not rely on them too much, this truth is not seen by many of us Other thing - if you drive a car or sit in a wheelchair for a very long time, you can not walk or run anymore, or at least not so good as before The same with thinking and reasoning - if you let an app or the bot make decisions and create the answers for you, and you do not have to do it by yourself for long enough - you will get rid of this skill, this is only a matter of time This is a great danger, when this will happen to millions of us Keep training your body and keep training your mind

Personally speaking, translation, AI or otherwise, isn't really even that convenient It's slow, imprecise, and tedious to use for more than very short interactions or passages of text Having natural conversations or even something as simple as playing a video game in another language can't easily be done with translation apps in any convenient way brbrIt's totally worth learning a language to not be dependent on technology to dictate what you can and cannot experience

I wouldn't worry about ai and other technology nobody knows what its limits will be but google translate has been out since 2006 and its still bad and you had similar things before google translate right now technology has only made knowing more languages more useful
