I joined the Midland Bank in 1965 and recall being told,on a course I went on, that banks could not offer mortgagesBy 1985,we suddenly introduce mortgages as a service,and branches were given targets to hit ! brI feel that the older wiser people in charge when I was first in the bank knew best,because ever since our stable solid banking system has experienced no end of problemsIs it a coincidence that once they offered mortgages they ran into trouble ?
