I find this interesting Most of the Chinese people say that foreigners are stereotyping them due to not having a local’s perspective However, when asked to switch language, most denied and, most of those who agreed and stated that they could could converse well in English, failed miserably To make things worse, when prompted with the question, ”If a foreigner were to ask for directions”, most would ask first, whether said foreigner can speak in Chinese Sounds like the stereotype is true and should just be regarded fact at this point 🤦‍♂️

I once met this girl who was studying English Lit at Fudan (one of China's top universities) I was extremely impressed, to say the least She's definitely in the top 1, possibly 01 of English speakers in China Heck, I'd even say her command of English was better than the average American

As an European (Italian) citizen, I can confirm that I have a certain knowledge of English despite isn't perfect Ok it's the easiest language to learn but hard to speak fluently! It's the language of the world and we need to speak it because in my case not all our foreign friends can learn our mother tongue, and if they don't speak our or if we don't speak their mother tongue we have to speak English for being respectful 😊

In my country there is a saying that I'm gonna try to loosely translate lol: "knowing more languages is like having more brains" Basically, each language is a system onto itself, with its own rules and way of thinking and it's attached to a well developed culture and history, so being able to understand and speak more languages means that your brain can think in different ways, therefore you can develop your intelligence

English is very common, you go in airport theres always english, you go in grocery market the products / itens there are mostly in english so its not that difficult You dont have to be perfect in grammar but you should know even basic

in my country it is still very important to be fluent in english, to have either english speaking or writing skills and you can get a lot of jobs related to your engligh knowledge Most of the population avoid going to movie theaters or watch tv shows that aren't dubbed in our language Or read books that arent translated to our language But many technological jobs recquires the knowledge of english because they can't translate everything for you or teach you how to speak another languagebrIn here it is recquired if you wanna work with tourism, high IT jobs and such

我中国人我都承认中国英语教育普遍是比较失败的，而且是非常需要改进的，这个基本上社会都是认同的，做这种视频根本没有什么意义，这个刻板印象就是真的。除非从小父母就重视让小孩留洋所以一路走的国际学校，抑或是教育资源好个人能力强一路读的都是顶尖的学校，这部分人对于社会来说百分比能占多少？这样的学校能有几所？一路在中国读应试教育上来，从来没有听老师称赞说我们英语教育的真好的，连英语老师自己都不承认。但我们的教育就是这样，因为社会资源有限人口有多，教育的目的为了应试而不是纯粹地学习语言，这是背景也是事实。这视频策划如果是中国人，可能你自己都不了解自己的国家真正的样子。更何况你都挑了上海这种地方了，街采加剪辑都是这个效果，更何况二线三线四线呢？
