MSW/LCSW since 2017 Worked as a clinician for a company and now an Administrator I also run a private practice I work 50-55 hours weekly across both gigs and make $187,000 in CA Pretty sustainable

A career in social work is very rewarding, especially when you are already into helping people Think of the population type you want to help specifically There is early education, community development, mental and community health, special education, child development etc And you know what's even better, you can start your career without getting a job by just helping people in vulnerable areas within your local community

Believe it or not, there are social workers making good money It depends on the organization you work for Do your research and leverage your experience and you can make $60k at the get go after your MSW with a license Its keeping the job that is difficult because stress management and time management can be very tricky if you don't know how to cope quickly

As someone who took a hiatus in my career to work in social work for several years, all hiring committees care about is your credentials Actual work experience is not valued until you’re beyond licsw and seeking senior positions So if you wanna do social work, go to school and don’t stop short of the msw

If you're a social worker, you NEED to get your MSW If you major in social work, you can get your MSW in one year, I got mine at Arkansas State online for 12k that masters degree makes a huge difference Go to community college for your first two years and go to your local state school and you should be able to graduate with 30-40k or so in debt masters included, and can easily make 60k entry level with the masters It's the best bang for your buck if your career goal is to make the world a better place

I’m doing it in the uk; my degree is a Bsc as it emphasises evidence based practice - research and being able to access that through social work theories and models if a case is complex and you’re assessing a situation The burn out and case load is a huge issue in the UK, but career opportunities are higher because of that I don’t want to work with children and families because of this; I’d rather work with adults

As a current BSW student who intends to go to grad school and get my clinical liscence, it should also be noted there are many people in the profession who indoctrinate students into believing they can't be a good social workers and get paid well You may have to get an MSW and liscencing to get paid decent, but it's an obtainable goal My university offers a number of graduate assistantships per cohort and prioritize students who have participated in advocacy and leadership roles during undergrad, so it isn't far fetched for someone in my situation to get their Masters paid for and a stipend for living expenses It's also an obtainable graduate degree for working adult There are many programs offered online and part time I know a number of social workers who paid out of pocket or negotiated tuition assistance through their employer

Satisfied one as well Located in NYbrWhen I had my BSW I was making 45k and when I got my MSW in 2020 I got a school gig staring at 78k plus holidays and summer off and awesome health insurance In addition, after getting my LMSW 2021, I started individual therapy which bumped me up to a little over 90k Annually, I get an increase to my salary and will be making 6 figures and over after just 4 years Also, many agencies are seeking social workers to be in an admin role due to their problem solving skills and the current mental health issues that is going on in America - school loan was low (30k) state colleges and scholarships

I have my LCSW I was making 45k with my BSW and I make 6 figures now One of the important things is social workers have to leverage their skill set I am a therapist and work as a family mediator for people divorcing I also work for a hospital inpatient psych and in adoptions Yes I work multiple jobs but that is just something people in my family do I could do fine with just one However if a social worker does not leverage their unique skill set they will stay under paid and under valued
