These things are part of cruising, but just like your cruise fair, don't spend more than you can afford Often purchased before the cruise, you can save money Also, if all your extras are purchased before, you can keep your end balance super low It's a matter of choice while respecting your own budget, needs, and wants

When cruising in warm climates, the thermal spa probably not worth it, but on recent New England and Alaska cruises, the thermal spa was a daily visit for us to warm up after the day's excursions Especially fun on port days to watch people returning to the ship out the window

I’m in agreement with mostly every one of your suggestions… EXCEPT… the booking of the excursions off board of cruise line From what I have heard time after time, suggestions are that you do book through cruise line because if something happens on land that may cause you to miss your return time to reboard and you booked through some on land company the ship does not/will not wait on you if your late getting back I don’t go on many excursions only because of physical mobility problems But when I do, I book through cruise line just in case a situation comes up and I can’t get back to the ship in time

I agree with 99 of this video The exception is haircut in the salon The prices are the same as I pay on land for a high end quality haircut and blow out And the cruise line hairdressers are highly skilled I nor any members of the family have ever received a bad haircut while cruising I cruise about 300 days a year and I won’t risk getting a bad from a land salon in Egypt or Guatemala when I know I can get a quality haircut and blow out for $60-70 including the gratuity onboard the ship

Getting any add-ons during a cruise is a personal choice, there are no definite answers What is good for one person isn’t good for another I am a person who purchases a drink package because when I am on vacation I like to drink fruity cocktails and I start from the time I get up until I go to bed, so I easily can drink 7-8 drinks a day I also buy a photo package because I like to have the family get dressed up and get some nice family pictures Now what works for me and my family may not work for you and that is what you have to figure out It’s just a personal preference, there is no right or wrong choice, it’s whatever works for you and makes you happy

Agree with everything except the spa I love getting a massage and going back to my room to nap It's a way to unplug that wouldn't happen at home I always buy before the cruise or go on a port day when it's over 1/2 priced I don't understand why the photos are so high when they're only digital now It's ridiculous

Here’s my list of what I don’t spend money on: WiFi packages, drink packages, specialty restaurants I always email the cruise line to get a “liquids allowed” tag on my ticket so I can bring my own zero sugar soda, never been turned away I do pay for shipping excursions though only because they guarantee the ship wont leave without you if they run late That’s not guaranteed if you take a private tour

If you like beverages, the drink packages are worth it We enjoy beer on the balconywe gather the beer using our drink package from bars throughout the day (there's a 2 per bar minimum) We stock the fridge and enjoy at our leisure

I did my first cruise last year I went for the massage/ spa package and got the cheapest available massage For me it was worth it to get access to a more private pool I only ran into three other people the whole week I was there, there were large chunks of time I had the pool to myself I also had the saunas to myself every time That felt pretty worth it to me

For spa services drop by on embarkation day They will have deals you won’t see any other time The issue is it’s usually for a couple different services combos Not just one thing But it could be worth it

On Carnival, my wife spent 1,000, but she won 2,500 but we got a coupon for future cruises and they allow you to book up 3 cruises on 1 coupon, our was 300$ a cruise with 1 drink package and 250$ on board credit So it actually only cost us 50$ for both of us

We booked land excursions privately when in the Caribbean The cost was about half the ship and it was smaller groups and better service brbrThe exception was Alaska and a couple in Norway The cost for these two countries was about the same and in Norway we wanted to visit the oldest stave church and it was only offered through the cruise ship brbrI will say Alaska was the most expensive excursions even more so than Norway which is one of the most costly countries for food and lodging in the world brbrI was taken back that a trout lunch in Norway was $99 USD Ouch but not coming back so we splurged

I would never booked a tour outside of the ship for the simple fact that if your tour is delayed or something happens and you don't get back to the ship in time your cruise is over over The only time I met book a tour that is not with the ship is if it's something within walking distance of ship When you book with the ship you are guaranteed that no matter what happens they will make sure they get you back to the ship on time before departure Especially if you're overseas or in the islands I would absolutely book with the ship

6 to 8 liquor drinks per day is not that many drinks If you have two for breakfast two for lunch that only leaves 2 to 4 drinks for dinner and evening so it's really easy to do with out even getting drunk
