This is fascinating research! When I was first learning French, I tortured myself by watching Caillou, but it absolutely helped One thing I would encourage learners to remember, though, is that both Friends and Spongebob are American shows written with American humor and AmE conversation patterns and flow It may be a good idea to use such shows as a springboard at the beginning to acquire vocabulary and hone one's listening comprehension skills, but I would encourage anybody who uses this method to eventually graduate to shows originally written in their TL (unless AmE happens to be their TL, of course) Just as an example, I have noticed that standard German text has a different flavor when compared to German text that has been translated from English Comment from : @pseudolus7963 |

I’m not sold I’ve been studying Portuguese for a full year now, and while I know a lot of words, I still struggle to understand dialog or speech I watched the entirety of Bluey, Gravity Falls, Duck Tales, Star vs The Forces of Evil, and quite a few Disney animated movies in Portuguese I watch at least one episode per day, and it still doesn’t make sense to me I have learned quite a large vocabulary (around 2000 words) through focused study and memorization using flash cards and apps I study grammar and rules, and I’m really good at recalling the meaning of those words when quizzed But when I watch a kids show in my target language, I have no idea what they’re saying I understand a few words, but the meaning of the sentence as a whole is lost Without the studying, the books, the lessons, the flash cards, I’d have no idea what those words even mean just from watching the showbrI get that you have to learn to listen to your target language, but any benefit to watching a kids show won’t appear until you have a very strong foundation and significant vocabulary built up first Otherwise it’s just nonsense sounds Comment from : @Mike_2501 |

I have watched thousands of hours of different English videos to practice audition skills, and, to be honest, I don't think it helps me learn English You can spend time more efficiently Comment from : @NeuralAcademy |
Think cartoons are more useful for beginner because sentence structures are simplier too, like "He is crying because he is sad" vs "He is not talking with you because you know what you did(many episodes later) you aborted his child!"brbrAnd also the repetition Shows for kids usually explore one problem at the time, so there is many times when you can hear again that simple structure While adult shows will explore more complex side of the problems and almost try to solve them at the same time (in fact there is many different stories in the single episode) Comment from : @flutterin4595 |

i am not sure when i grew up i learned English from shows for adults since kids shows are dubbed here one advantage of kids content is just that its dubbed in more languages and in some countries kids dubs are actually better than those for mature movies like in polish you really don't want to watch non polish movies in polish but cartoons sound quite good all countries make movies but some don't have certain genres like in my native language Dutch most movies are either comedy or a grimdark thrillers they are good but there are not a lot of sci-fi or fantasy movies i think SpongeBob can still be funny as and adult but most kids shows i liked as a kid seem very lame now Comment from : @belstar1128 |
我看小猪佩奇为学中文brbrPeppa Pig is also very helpful and the fact it has alot of foreign language dub, short and simple episodes for busy schedules and simple casual conversations with subtitles for the target language makes it one of the best content to use in learning a language Comment from : @StarDisc_MultiMedia |
I will admit sthbrWhen i learned English when i was a 14 yo teenager, 3 things has helped me: kids TV shows and animated series, dubbed anime, and like a famous guy once said: "and h3nt4i, too" (well p*rn lol)brI don't like the newer kids series, but the ones I grew up with, I remembered in great details Finding a translation of that helps alot Anime is eternal It helped with slangs And adult contents helped with the ADVANCE slangs and a lot more (gotta be the one with actual plot)brI personally do not recommend to anyone tho, I have my own system, adult contents are digital drugs and are easily used wrong Using it wrong will destroy one's life Comment from : @laziecatus7233 |
