My eighteen-year old sister died suddenly when I was two I literally never knew parents who were not deeply grievingbrI feel (I don't remember, but I feel) that I experienced a revolving door of emotional neglect alternating with being used as a "teddy bear" to soothe their painbrI know that sounds like a harsh judgement, but I don't blame them I recognize that this is human nature in the face of the greatest loss people can experiencebrI don't blame them, but I must accept it as my truth Comment from : @pdatnc |

Not just neglect but emotional dismissal??? Comment from : @j5555785 |
Yes, and as we grow into damaged adults, many of us keep searching for shelter in relationships Sadly, if they also have been ignored/abused, and/or, they just don't care, they have nothing to give They too are lacking skill sets It's why so many fail For those blessed enough to have found love/understanding from others, there is hope Comment from : @lesawilkes5673 |

Yeah No matter how I screamed my mom had to go to work for a couple days away from home every couple of days Later I would be an adult who would stick to partners not doing the bare minimum, but once I realized this pattern about my choice of partners - I very forcefully and actively started rejecting people who would not put effort into our relationship let that be a friendship or romantic partnership It’s possible to heal this defective attachment style on your own or with help of a therapist I assume But you have to be categorically working on yourself and not putting effort into those breadcrumbing you or any other unrequited thing And keep putt in yourself out there Comment from : @zekaay |

This is a good reason to become a foster parent if you are a loving person and you have the time to do it If you are a loving person and they give you a baby to foster, there is a chance that the love you show that child even in a little bit of time can make a huge difference in that child's life Comment from : @drivingadventures9020 |

Psychology has you by the short and curlies has it not? There are many many stories of happy well-adjusted adults who went through such childhoods and grew into stronger and happier adults than many of those who followed the psychologist's manifesto Comment from : @bluewren2 |

As we’re going into 2025, I still feel very guilty for not being the parent my children deserved I’m now a great grandmother and, I wish I gave more hugs and did so many things different because that behavior can become generational I realized that not all adults should be parents It’s ok not to be one I continue to pray for God’s forgiveness and try to share my experiences because we second guess ourselves as parents, but that isn’t an excuse when we are only in our world 🙏🏾 Comment from : @Survivor58 |
It’s sooo important to listen to your children when they talk to you- their thoughts and feelings are just as important as their physical needs And just as important is cuddling them when they’re little From being a newborn, up till the age of 5 or 6 (or maybe older), they need to know they can run to you and you will comfort them and hold you in their arms until you are ok If they don’t have that, they will never feel secure Comment from : @mvv67564 |

I had a narcissistic mother and an emotionally distant father I have been married and divorced four times I realize now that I was unable to find love because I had never experienced it Once a year on my birthday my parents would say, “You have the most beautiful eyebrows and the most beautiful handwriting” They said this every year until I moved away They didn’t know me at all because I was invisible the rest of the year except on my birthday brI have been treated for severe depression and anxiety for 33 years I am now 76 years old and live alone in an apartment filled with clutter But I do have two loving cats I am most upset about how trauma affected even my brain! brWhen I die I do not want to even see my mother and have nothing to say to her Comment from : @maureenduffy6024 |

having come out the other side of emotional neglect from adoptive mother and father(granted it took me years) I can say that it is possible For myself learning buddhism, reading and listening to Eckhart tolle, meditating, coming to know the power of my own Self ie GOD and that reality awareness that cannot be denied, destroyed and is forever and for eternity our own truth That power is above all, even my own past The darkest days have pushed me to find it Now I find that strength and peace with ease Independence is mine, not needing validation from any outer source Comment from : @aliiscott1346 |
For those of you who feel like you had childhood traumatry this healing exercise Think back to a Time when you were really hurt Meditate on yourself at that age and hug that child tell them they are safe and loved Spend as much quiet time needed hugging that child And/or go back to look at your elementary photo and do the same exercise Comment from : @learningearning8385 |

My mother wasn't just stone faced, she was mean faced!!!!!!brShe looked like her alcoholic father I learned to be silent at an early age I was the youngest of four She was too busy catering to the firstborn son and my sister I was just incidental to her I was the highly sensitive child that was a thorn in her side, for being sensitivebrObviously, I am not alone with the pain of childhood neglect Yes, it does stay with you, rob you of a normal life and it robs you of your mental and physical health, also!brThe very best to you all reading this!!! Comment from : @bethelle9099 |

I was accidentally scolded on about a third of my scalp aged 2 by red hot animal fat (chip pan) Was rushed to the childrens hospital, but they were worried about cross infection So, I was sent to an isolation hospital (they don't have those now) The nurses all wore masks when they came into my room, I was there for a few months, until the scabs healed over No-one, except nurses, were allowed into my room My mother knocked on doctors doors until she found one able to help His wife worked in a team at Sheffield Childrens Hospital who dealt with children who had trauma to their body resulting in extensive scarring It was now 1952, and I was 3 yrs old when I had my first skin graft The surgeons had learnt much from the surgery that they used on war pilots who had received severe burns etc I went back every year until, at the age of 11, I opted out I still get asked if I am annoyed, because of the expression on my face most of the time It still feels artificial to smile 😏 Comment from : @franceseyre2093 |

This just plain hurts Could never figure out why I felt so off at times, struggled with relations and emotionally unregulated Mom was a narc and little emotional connection with us Dad was totally self absorbed and uninvolved in our lives But hey, the house was clean and orderly and we got three meals a day so I just figured I was a weirdo Comment from : @MrLuigiFercotti |

I was a teen parent in an abusive relationship during the first 2 years of my child's life and in the years after leaving, I struggled a lot and worked a lot in order to provide as a single parent This was not common knowledge at the time Whenever I see this topic presented LIKE THIS, considering that my child is a teen now and does have some social issues, I want to kill myself So great, good for y'all that you who don't have a child yet might happen to see this video telling you never to let your toddler watch movies in their room while you are forced to tend to other people I hope you heed this advice The rest of us are fucked though right? That's what this video says to me I can't help my child now so I should just kill myself for being such a failure Comment from : @revisionisthistory3863 |
This is so true I was raised by a parent with a frozen face, like a robot, never showing any emotion, not in pleasure or displeasure Just nothing This blank face all the time with RBF Even in pictures, she never changes facial expressions To this day, it's the same This trauma runs deep and the damage does not ever go away Comment from : @El_Ophelia |

I remember a friend who had a family member with a three year old that no one could understand and when I suggested a speech/ language evaluation with a developmental preschool was met with a vehement no because “we don’t let the government have them until we have to” So sad Comment from : @annlindsey2913 |

Any individuals who-in 2024-would knowingly reproduce without the basic means to offer a child anything, are guilty of abuse The taxpayers aren’t baby daddy Use birth control and termination or become so depressed at your uselessness that you stop doing what makes people pregnant in the first place Disgusting The country is sick of paying for the poor Comment from : @Truthtime3359 |
This is exactly what I experienced first hand My younger brother was that baby Some people should not reproduce Comment from : @valeanton9846 |

This makes me want to rage even more when people brag about how they just let their babies cry, and I'm not even a mother!brbrThey may not the specifics of what happened, but they'll feel the effects of it their entire lives "Tough love" is only breaking your children They appear "strong" because they've learned to repress their emotions Comment from : @Stridefully |
