* routing bit Instead of a bearing to ride on the pattern I just put the pattern down on the top of the sander and it rides on the lip while I sand I end up with a finished piece about 1/8" larger than the pattern, but it makes working with delicate patterns* but what if Comment from : @Remotertx |

Oh, and if you put side loads on your drill press (like sanding), you will ruin it You will Comment from : @hunkydorian |
Since you bring it up, I just did my first job with mine today The consumer-level ones nowadays have very small tables That is not favorable Comment from : @hunkydorian |

I've also heard that the bearings in a drill press aren't ideal for lateral loads, so over time, you could ruin your drill press Something to consider Oh, wait, you just said that Should have waited 5 seconds before I commented Comment from : @johnnichols8553 |

If anyone HASNT joined the weekend workshop, you absolutely need to! Best $100 I’ve ever spent These shop projects teach you incredible skills WHILE building the shop around you It’s fantastic Comment from : @Dobilay |

I absolutely wrecked a drill press by using it as a sander it went from 03 throw on to 1/8th inch throw it turned into a really good oval hoke driller thank God it was used and I picked it up for 20$ Comment from : @rogerjackway429 |

Ah You DO know that you can buy rubber erasers for cleaning your sandpaper, right? Looks like yours could use somebrbrI want to build a table for my spindle sander with a fence that pivots on one end and can be tightened down on the other This would help me to sand small things to an exact thickness Like bridges for guitars, for example Comment from : @ImperialistRunningDo |
Harbor freight has a great sander for cheap I've had my machine for years and had no problems Comment from : @dougburke50273wind |

I bought a used Delta spindle sander cast iron top made in the USA with its own rolling stand at a toolsale for like $100 great deal, when you buy quality tools you don't even have to consider new ones just gently used ones in good shape save you a bunch of money Comment from : @dedalliance1 |
just watching this to convince myself I definitely need a spindle sander Comment from : @BH-fi1sb |
I ❤️ sanding, it’s one of my favorite things to do in my workshop Comment from : @WigWagWorkshop |
Prefer the combined belt/spindle sanders Not a lot more money, and you get to sand straight and outside diameters too Great for taking less space Comment from : @Tensquaremetreworkshop |
What type of mask do you have on and use? Comment from : @Cripkeeper1 |
I have Record Power BBS1 It is not cheap, but a robust (31 kg) tool with a cast iron plate without resonances, with a classic asynchronous motor with capacitor It's the perfect silent tool for me For example, the Triton model is cheaper, but too loud because it uses a brush motor Comment from : @CzKaa |

I have two of the Wen sanders in a middle school shop and can testify that they are durable and versatile I made a "jointer sled" for one of them It's a slab of plywood with a 3ish inch hole in the middle, flanked by fences, one tangent to the drum, the other, 1/64 offset It's clamped to the sander with a couple of c-clamps, but I'm thinking of bolting it on permanently brbrI won't let the (11-year-old) kids use the table saw or the jointer, but they can rip or resaw on the band saw and joint or surface their materials on the sander I use a 3", 60 grit drum for the "jointer" The Wen has an effective dust port that worked well with a shop vacuum until I got around to plumbing it into the central dust collection system Comment from : @christopherdahle9985 |
Hey Steve can you give a link to the ventilation system you use, and do you like it? Comment from : @coryrobinson2530 |

Thank you Steve!brLove my Wen, lucky find in new condition on Craigslist for $50 brI certainly would have spent hundreds more, but most of my daily hobby is metal fab/electronicsbrHarbor freight has inexpensive refills Comment from : @ruftime |
I own several Wen products and I have to say that I really like them I'm not having to use them everyday but Wen tools have surprised me own how sturdy their tools are My newest thing is a wood lathe and as soon as I make a spot in my garage just for it I will be turning ASAP Comment from : @davanders2006 |
I havethe wen sander and it works great, but I used my drill press for many years and it worked just fine If you are tight on space, I would just use the drill press attachment You also don’t need one at all if you’re not doing inside curves Comment from : @brucejohnson1264 |
Good info Can’t wait to see your videos in 2022! Comment from : @10FingersWoodworking |

Very helpful video series Thank you! I have a question: If you just setting up would you buy the spindle sander first of a disc/belt sander? Or some other sanding tool (I have 2 random orbitals and a sheet/palm whatever you call it sander) Comment from : @TheLovelyMissBeans |

I absolutely loved your storage of the two different sanders! Did you ever make a video on how to build it? I was debating which sander I needed more for my limited space and that might enable me to get both! Comment from : @andreacsnell |

I got myself one this year - a combi belt and spindle sander Triton It arrived about two weeks ago, and I am impressed I can see why people go on about them: you can get sand to a pencil line and nice 90-degree angles so easilybrAll the best to you and the family, Steve - and wishing you all a happy and prosperous 2022 Comment from : @emm_arr |

All hail the YouTube algorithm gods Comment from : @SgtMaj22 |

Why would you go for a spindle sander instead of a belt sander? Is it just for the price difference? Comment from : @sanderd17 |

Love the yellow D brand cover ups Comment from : @benryan5314 |
I bought one of these here in Australia from my local tool supplier about 10 or 12 years ago for $AUD250 I saw them recently for about $AUD375 They are so good, I take mine to work (high school woodwork teacher) as it is easier to use use and takes less space than the $AUD3,000 one the school bought It gets a heavy workout, yet I’m still using the set of abrasives (course and fine) that came with it Some are starting to clog easily, but a sanding rubber helps a lot here JUST BUY ONE NIOW!!!! THEY ARE BRILLIANT!!! Comment from : @indetailcarcaresolutions3770 |
Great video I have a question Seeing the paint on you power tools, usually that means it was returned and selling at a reduced price Have found buying these tools to work successfully? Comment from : @scottmorris4914 |

In this series about not quite essential tools, I'd love to hear your thoughts on routers Specifically palm router v fixed base v plunge Which bits are most useful? Should a beginner buy bits individually or as part of a set? Comment from : @HeBreaksLate |
Steve, random observation… why did your sander, drill and driver go tye-dye? 😂 Comment from : @Deftallica9 |

Do I need a spindle sander? No (At least, not now, it's farrrr down the list Pillar Drill and Planer/Thicknesser are top priority)! Do I have the Weekend Workshop course? Yes! Comment from : @DirkieB |
I cannot justify an oscillating spindle sander unless it was $20 or something and small I would not use it enough Comment from : @keithrosenberg5486 |

Thanks Steve I was in the fence about which arsenal was next for my shop Couldn’t debate between the oscillating belt spindle sander that can be converted to regular use for over $350 or a simple one like yours Guess you made my purchase easier while saving money as well Thanks and keep up the great work! |
I like minimizing the # of tools needed while maximizing the amount of work each tool can perform I have a random orbit sander, but I use sanding drums fir my drill press that I use for round sanding as well as a calibration/sanding disc for the table saw which along with a 120V variable speed controller which works in place of a flat sander Comment from : @libertarian1637 |
What happened to your tools?! They all look weirdly colored Comment from : @Dukefazon |

Thanks Steve! I’ve been considering an oscillating sander for almost a year now Time to get one! Comment from : @SoCalKevin |
Also, I have the handheld wen spindle sander and it’s a good option if space is a premium Given that the cost of the full table one right now is only about $20 more I’m not sure I would get the handheld again because I would love a bigger table, but it does clamp upside down to use like the full size machine, can also be brought to big projects, and stores in a drawer Comment from : @stevensonjsh |
Loving the new color theme for the tools! I think you should do all of them Too many of us get caught up in the best color to buy 😉 Comment from : @stevensonjsh |
