I do a lot of custom cut charcuterie boards for my business and can not imagine going without my oscillating spindle sander now that I have one I was using a dremel with mini sanding drums yeah Still do for fine detail work but this one relatively small device saves me SO much time and effort

I absolutely wrecked a drill press by using it as a sander it went from 03 throw on to 1/8th inch throw it turned into a really good oval hoke driller thank God it was used and I picked it up for 20$

Ah You DO know that you can buy rubber erasers for cleaning your sandpaper, right? Looks like yours could use somebrbrI want to build a table for my spindle sander with a fence that pivots on one end and can be tightened down on the other This would help me to sand small things to an exact thickness Like bridges for guitars, for example

I bought a used Delta spindle sander cast iron top made in the USA with its own rolling stand at a toolsale for like $100 great deal, when you buy quality tools you don't even have to consider new ones just gently used ones in good shape save you a bunch of money

I have Record Power BBS1 It is not cheap, but a robust (31 kg) tool with a cast iron plate without resonances, with a classic asynchronous motor with capacitor It's the perfect silent tool for me For example, the Triton model is cheaper, but too loud because it uses a brush motor

I have two of the Wen sanders in a middle school shop and can testify that they are durable and versatile I made a "jointer sled" for one of them It's a slab of plywood with a 3ish inch hole in the middle, flanked by fences, one tangent to the drum, the other, 1/64 offset It's clamped to the sander with a couple of c-clamps, but I'm thinking of bolting it on permanently brbrI won't let the (11-year-old) kids use the table saw or the jointer, but they can rip or resaw on the band saw and joint or surface their materials on the sander I use a 3", 60 grit drum for the "jointer" The Wen has an effective dust port that worked well with a shop vacuum until I got around to plumbing it into the central dust collection system

I own several Wen products and I have to say that I really like them I'm not having to use them everyday but Wen tools have surprised me own how sturdy their tools are My newest thing is a wood lathe and as soon as I make a spot in my garage just for it I will be turning ASAP

I havethe wen sander and it works great, but I used my drill press for many years and it worked just fine If you are tight on space, I would just use the drill press attachment You also don’t need one at all if you’re not doing inside curves

I have an early Ryobi oscillating spindle sander It's seems identical to yours and the Wen It's one of my favorite woodworking tool purchases I used it so much I wore down the motor brushes, but was able to order replacements

I have the Rigid (Home Depot) combination oscillating belt/spindle sander and just love it It costs more, but you get 2 tools in one, plus it has an adjustable angle bed for chamfered edges when needed

Belt sander / spindle combo is a great choice Not much more expensive than spindle alone I recent got one and use it all the time now Triton brand has been great, they carry it on Amazon and at Rockler

I bought one of these here in Australia from my local tool supplier about 10 or 12 years ago for $AUD250 I saw them recently for about $AUD375 They are so good, I take mine to work (high school woodwork teacher) as it is easier to use use and takes less space than the $AUD3,000 one the school bought It gets a heavy workout, yet I’m still using the set of abrasives (course and fine) that came with it Some are starting to clog easily, but a sanding rubber helps a lot here JUST BUY ONE NIOW!!!! THEY ARE BRILLIANT!!!

I like minimizing the # of tools needed while maximizing the amount of work each tool can perform I have a random orbit sander, but I use sanding drums fir my drill press that I use for round sanding as well as a calibration/sanding disc for the table saw which along with a 120V variable speed controller which works in place of a flat sander

Also, I have the handheld wen spindle sander and it’s a good option if space is a premium Given that the cost of the full table one right now is only about $20 more I’m not sure I would get the handheld again because I would love a bigger table, but it does clamp upside down to use like the full size machine, can also be brought to big projects, and stores in a drawer
