Looking back at this, I feel that this was meant to be a feature that would become a constant in future works by Square, but for whatever reason it was not carried over to many other products after the Generation V console ports: The PSX version of Final Fantasy VI also has a similar function, as getting a Game Over will bring you back to the last area that you made a save at with all of the experience that was gained prior to the wipeout banked; this is how so many players opt to get overleveled pretty early before fighting Ultros on the Raft, in many ways this made Level 099 runs of this easier to execute than the Super Famicom builds and in my view is a pretty effective way to revisit the game for anybody who grew up with it roughly Five Years priorbrThis is something that many feel should've been retained for the 2023 Retelling, the developers clearly had a reason for implementing the concept of Experience Banking and in many ways it made this particular era of Square's products easier to get into; considering that the game is already getting mods, I've a feeling that we will witness this feature get reinstated, all it'll probably take is a few edits to the flags that handle Save Loading after a Game Over and the rest is history (though I can easily envision this getting glitched out if it loads the wrong save or an Autosave accidentally), will be nice to see how this gets experimented with down the road (: Comment from : @Royameadow |

I generally mow down all the enemies and let Belome kill off my party He and the clones do it faster than the minor enemies in the Land's End tunnel Comment from : @jackiebrown6845 |
The Ship way with dry bones is better That's what I always did to level up Comment from : @mkpianofab |
Is this the mines in Molleville?? Comment from : @thomasteel5427 |
Waaay easier wayin the sunken ship there are dry bonesthey dont die when defeated Right b4 u fight johnny there are some that will yield a 40xp battleuse the lucky egg its 80xp/fightmallow can kill them in 1 shot You can literally grind to lv 30 in under 1hr Comment from : @tasselhoff1293 |
There is a faster way to gain level on this gamebrIn your first time in the sunken ship, you can enter in the second room (not counting the start room with the trampoline) you will find there a couple of greapers and 3 Dry bones Kill the greaper which will give you a lot of EXP Put mallow on your team, equip him with the Zoom shoes in order to increase his speed by 10 points That will make him be the first attacker agains the dry bones and use his thuderbolt attack It will kill the dry bones 100 of the times You will gain 8 xp per fight and they keep respawning because they dont die Just keeping defeating the dry bones of the room When you run out of FP, just use a maple syrup If you run out of maple syrup, go back to marryville and recharge your maple syrup since the dry bones will give you plenty of money If you want speed things up, equip a exp booster on any ally Comment from : @kisuke2008 |
definitely the best leveling up is to fight the dry bones in johnny jones' ship in the room right before the pandorite (or whatever the treasure box enemy is called - been a long time since i played so i don't remember the names well) is a dry bones that spawns a fight with 2 greapers, 2 hobgoblins, and the tombstone guy if you max mallow's magic skills at each level he will one hit all of them at around level 11 with thunderbolt if you save the flower tabs/jars/boxes from previous areas until this point, they will fully refill your fp when you use them you get 27 xp and 18 coins per fight, and it takes about 20 seconds to do there's a save point in the next room as well extremely easy to go from level 11 to level 22 or so Comment from : @jeffmooney8638 |
No that's foul cheating , not how the game was meant to be played Comment from : @veronicapichardo7993 |
I learned this back when I was 10 ^^ Comment from : @Cragmortis |

Thanks a lot, Davers Comment from : @henrythepurplepoodledog612 |
I used to do this back on snes, and you can farm so much levels that the game became boring to beat :/ Comment from : @eduardohm5089 |
I played this game all the time when I was younger and it never crossed my mind to do this I didn't know you could save your stats but not what you did in the game I would think your stats would start over lie they were before you saved but obviously not Really cool man! Comment from : @Jon-Mark_W |
That's excellent! :) Comment from : @exsosus5002 |
I can't find what town in the game u do this in can someone please tell me Comment from : @cally133 |
1:32 Hahaha never heard that frustration expression before Comment from : @matthewwasson2906 |
As a child, I grind levels in Sunken Ship, in the save block just before the Kraken, there is a dry bones near a treasure chest, there, it gives you coins and exp, and never disappears, also there is a guy that can sell you stuff, to heal yourself Comment from : @Mark070892 |
AAAhhhh CRAP!!!! Comment from : @taylorrichardson6795 |
Just to add onto this: make sure to have the "Goodie Bag" with you when you do this That way, your characters won't enter defense mode when you're trying to get game over Helps speed it up Comment from : @DrRockso1987 |
So let me get this straight if theres one more monster left you have to get a game over and you start exp farming again but you keep your level? Comment from : @jkmenttonet1478 |
Thanks! This helped a lot, man! :D Comment from : @9legopro |
As soon as i realized "theirs a star on the same screen as a save block" i realized the trick was abusing the fact that everything EXCEPT EXP earned is reset upon dieingbrbrThis isn't even a glitch, its programmed like that to make sure the player keeps all EXP so that they are less likely to get discouraged from finishing the game, but with how this is made to look, i don't think this is an oversight either, it seems fairly intentionalbrbrIts possible that it was made for development purposes for some reason, and just never got taken out Comment from : @LiroRaeriyo |
First time I have ever heard of this trick! Thanks for the cool video bro Comment from : @antoniocastrejon840 |
I usually do this trick right before the first Croco fight and just let him kill me Comment from : @teejaynumber13 |
The best legit way to get easy level ups without glitching is to simply go to Smithy's Factory There are many conveyor belts that churn out clones of previous bosses These Machine Mades are actually a good source of experience and they keep spawning on the conveyor so you can just keep fighting them for easy experience The Mack, Bowyer and Yaridovitch clones give the most experience so use those I think they put those there on purpose since the final boss is the strongest enemy in the game having 10,000 hp with both forms combined Comment from : @warioland523 |
"I just found the coolest secret" "AGGHHHHHHHHHHH" Comment from : @xandergrim8706 |

you can do the same thing with the crocodile boss at the beggining of the game if you just lose the fight and get the star over and over Comment from : @auggie9912 |
That's so much work And is the game even fun anymore when you do this? Comment from : @thomasdantas |
Wwwwwoooooooowwwwww Comment from : @dnha5024564 |
Used to do that in 1996 If I can remember you can find a goodie bag in booster's tower and use it in battle so the enemies can knock you out faster Comment from : @AngryVideoGameBadAss |
