ThanksI was wondering how to tell very good explanation I bought a collection of raw morgans back in 98 and there's some different looking ones that I put aside cause i suspect maybe just maybe one or two could possibly be a Proof they just stood out Comment from : @wildbillo68 |
Out of the first two I prefer the 1898, maybe it’s the lighting, but it doesn’t look like a white coin to me, it looks like it has a very pleasant light green toning going on brThis is the first proof Morgan that I’ve ever seen It would be nice to own one, but I’ve never seen one for sale on ebay Thanks for the video 🤠👍 Comment from : @ManDad_1964 |

Great video Ben I have always wondered the answer to the question that you posed and answered in this video I really appreciate showing the details of the rim that explain the difference brbrThis question has bugged me for years Comment from : @thewolfe1099 |
I like the 1898 ms66 and prefer a new shiny look versus toning Although I don’t like those long cracks Those proofs are spectacular ! Comment from : @twojags88 |
I would love to have a proof Morgan Maybe someday! Thank you for energizing me in that direction! Comment from : @brucetelfeyan |

Took me way too long to find a video like this Thank you Comment from : @judesullivan2502 |

This is a late comment, but the '03 is badly over graded Comment from : @dskinyc |
I noticed that the 1903 MS 67 (seems to have a relatively weak strikeesp noticeable on the week eagle's feathers)yet it still got the extremely high grade I read in books and have heard years ago, that if there's a weak strike, even if near perfect cheek/fields, etc, it can never get above a 65 Any comments are appreciated Thank you Comment from : @jameskerry3826 |
More like this brSemi high grade rarities tutorial brbrTy ty Comment from : @arnival3694 |
Agree on the harsh grade for that proof You find pr-65s that look worse than that Comment from : @prawnstar9213 |
THANK YOU! Finally someone talks about Morgan PROOF! So difficult to have graded correctly!!!!! Like almost impossible if you’re not known in the business The dead giveaway is that I think you called it acrylic?? I call it waxy over glaze not all have perfect rims but they will be square along with boxy denticles Higher “hair bumps” than BS Boxy raised lettering and numbers Comment from : @prawnstar9213 |
Do you sell your coins, Comment from : @doctorgoldbud1321 |

Do you want to sell some of those coins I like the 1892 Morgan dollar s Ms 63 Comment from : @doctorgoldbud1321 |

What would be the simple comparison of PF Morgan and Morgan DMPL? Comment from : @simbathewhitelion887 |

Sorry for the triplepost, but I think they made the proofs at multiple mints! My guess doing a super lowball is 10-20k, which is fair to do considering they've had over a century to be subjected to all sorts of sad fates They gave these to governors and colleges, so I can imagine a governor not caring for coins doing something like tipping a waitress with it, and it eventually winds up flea marketed to some excited knowitnone old fart who promptly takes it home and wirebrushes it to death Or there could be some across several campuses stored in boxes, forgotten and just waiting brbrAt any rate, I wonder if 2023's proofs will try to be styled similarly, and if so, how much that will change the price of these old proofs PLs and DPLs will always have their own market for the reasons you mentioned, as they are somehow far stronger than any proof even made more recently in 90 and each just has that unique character about them, but these proofs will soon have only history on their side instead of overall type rarity My guess, though, is that the proofs next year (though no doubt sure to be nice) will not at all be like that - I didn't even see these reflecting you, so I don't know if they are more of a satin finish proof like you mentioned, or if these tone well, or even if you just didn't get a good angle, not wanting to accidentally self-dox! brbrAnyhow, loved the video! Coins deserve to be showed off, so thanks for showing them to us Comment from : @Pdstor |
Second comment, since it is a PF, aren't the standards themselves different for the scale due to how categorically different the type of coin is? Comment from : @Pdstor |

Eagle looked a little strapped for chest feathers for an MS67 Comment from : @Pdstor |

Thank you Excellent information Comment from : @jameskerry3826 |

I really wish there were a different term for wire rims on coins It's the wrong word to describe a sharp rim A wire rim means that the rim is shaped like a wire, which is a thin, round surface, not a sharp edge with sharp sides Comment from : @singlesideman |
I wish someone was tracking toning on coins based on storage conditions, eg 2x2, slab, other and including the general temperature range thebr coins might have been stored brBasically I’m interested in how much toning occurs and how long it takes for toning to occur brbrNice coins you have and I love that blue toning br👍🏽 Comment from : @everettwhite9874 |

Learn something new about Morgan’s all the time Man I’d like a Morgan with a proof only designation like the one you showed Comment from : @SpokaneSilverStacker |

Can you do another in depth video explaining morgan proofs? Seems like your the only one on you tube with a video about them Comment from : @wangdang2220 |
On the 03 MS 67, the strike isn't that good Look at the hair over the ear Or is that worn dies? With the toning, it's hard to judge the luster Comment from : @davidho2977 |

Very educational Thank you Comment from : @TheRugghead |

Thanks a lot for useful info about wire rim of proof coinsbrA great respect for your job!!! Comment from : @feelalive1890 |
Are they not harsh on proof coins as they know SOOOO many of them have been messed with over the years ?brTechnically I would suggest there are more impaired proofs (pre 1935), than non-impaired proofsbrFrom what I’ve been told in the first half of the 19th c it was considered acceptable even encouraged to shine coins up rub or even polish thembrThe fact that there are wide spreads between certain grades in certain series has and always will motivate and spark greedy coin doctors to get to work Comment from : @Samscoinsandheavymetal |

Gorgeous proofs Ben! Love both I am in the market for a proof Seated Half Still haven't one yet I love my PR Morgan Yes they are harsh on them But rightfully so Proofs display all of the details Rubs of the coin really standout as hairlines with the super reflective fields Anyhow, thanks for sharing! Comment from : @silversurfer1986 |
Like most, prefer the 98-o over the 1903 The 98-o is gorgeous and looks like a 67 Not sure about the 1903 but that might be the toning Thanks Ben Keep up the videos Comment from : @staleydu1 |

That 1903 is a tad over-graded Comment from : @theblake5356 |

Awesome details preserved on the reverse of that dime The 98O is the most attractive of the dollars, but that proof is something that is pretty unique Great show and tell on the wire rim and denticles Comment from : @davidufford1328 |
IMO, the 1898 O looks better than the 1903, even though a half point behind The proof dollar gets a 62 in my book with a lot of hairlines and the contact marks in the field to the right of Liberty bust, even scratches such as like on her neck Comment from : @ericdawson845 |
WOW Love that proof Morgan Thanks for all the good information too! 😀👍 Comment from : @Ontario100 |
