I’ve been playing for about a year but I’ve injured my neck at work and now I can only play for 10 minutes before I feel pain The pain is mainly from holding my head down and to the left when I’m looking at the fretboard, if I could just not look and play on feel it makes it much easier but it’s hard to learn that way

Seems for me, that smoking weed would really lock me in with playing/practicing and like I could play for hours… When I quit drugs years ago my interest for playing completely went poof … Similar thing happened with playing video games it’s like I get no enjoyment from it unless it’s mixed with that and playing

My best friend took guitar lessons because she wanted to Her parents paid for them and once she got kind of good at it, they pressured her relentlessly to play in front of people whenever possible and she hated it- so much so that she completely lost interest in the instrument "Make it fun" truly is the most important tip

Hey buddy! Cool video I’m sure will do lots of people good I’ve been playing for 16 years now, been in a few bands and played a variety of genres I was sorta blessed with ability to hear and play, but finally started diving into theory The younger version of myself could never focus enough to absorb the information However after five slow years of learning I am suddenly taking off with my skill level I’ve been studying Joe Pass, and watching educational videos about all the different scales I know once I learn the whole fret board and all these tasty jazz and blues tones I’ll never struggle to write again Cheers to 75 years man, may your journey take you far!

Step 52 is SO huge I've been working on music production as a bassist, drummer, and singer I've wanted to learn guitar, but, as stupid this sounds, just the idea of having to drag it out of the bag and tune it up every time I want to play feels like such a chore I finally bit the bullet and got a stand I know it's going to make a difference because I've learned other instruments before Being able to take a five minute break from something to pick around makes a big difference and keeps it more fun

would strongly argue against cheaping out on a tuner and a capo when starting, since that literal 10 bucks can save you hours, by preventing getting your phone for tuning, wasting battery and time, and the pencil trick or what not technique you use to play certain chords is gonna be too complicated and at the end of the day it's about creating pretty sounds, so a capo is like a 5 dollar buff for any rookie, respect the economics tho ;D 5:31 right? whatever you are playing along to, one of the strings just plucked will align with, simple asjesus

This is brilliant and could apply to learning anything I've been self-learning intensively for a month and slip in and out of bad habit The bit about structuring via goals and time mgmt will be useful -- if I do it Please offer advice on how to juggle learning multiple techniques Eg I want to improve finger picking while learning how to incorporate chord fragments into solos Would you advise separating these goals, or can you offer ideas for pursuing multiple goals in parallel? I have to respectfully disagree with some of your advise Depending on what inspires you to play: electric/acoustic, that is what you should choose to start with Acoustic and electric have enough differences to be considered two different instruments Starting with the wrong one can be discouraging itself especially if you put in a lot of time learning acoustic when electric was your passion and you find playing either is totally different from the other When starting, if you are a adult-ish the whole "beginner guitar" is a myth If you really want to play, kick out a few extra bucks and buy a guitar that makes you want to play A bad guitar can be a major discouragement Chase what grabs your soul and you will be alright brAlso if you watch videos about "build your dream custom shop guitar on a budget" you might save $30 If youre carpentry and electrical inclined yeah its worth doing it for the Luthier experience but it will run around $1000 when its all said and done plus time brMoral of the story: Life is short, buy that dream guitar It has resale value that goes up

I'm using my ears more now to play , you notice certain things if you listen to ya self playing and not just playing You can manipulated certain strings to make tunes heaps better Awesome when you get into a flow state I don't even use a pick , I got a strap which I find handy so the guitar doesn't fly away from me lol Need a capo tho , this guy said I should try a pick But I recon it changes ya style and sound Just learnt to play High and dry , more or less just play it my own way with what I like and how I strum it Love making my own tunes up tho The thing is you can play how you want , no real rules I play almost every day depending on my mood I think learning a few new tunes every week is a good idea It teaches new techniques

If you have friends that play other instruments or know someone who has passed by what you're going through, not only you can learn from them, but the proccess will be a lot funnier if you can play live everything you're working so hard to learn
