For tip #2 my CFI taught us the acronym PAST: Power, Attitude, Speed and Trim Levelling out of a climb would be slightly different (APST), but it’s still quite a handy acronym to remember for starting a climb as well as starting and levelling out of a descent Comment from : @robertandrews1637 |
the 2nd tip is probably the best piece of aviation advice I've ever recieved Comment from : @matthewsouza709 |
I want to fly but I felt pretty bad motion sickness on my first flight, I don't know whether I can never fly because of that Comment from : @steffe1819 |
Thanks! I’m doing a discovery flight to see if it’s for me But I am hyper focused on it haha Comment from : @BeholdSevenWoes |

Full time professional flight instructor? From the research I've done, isn't a flight instructor a starting point of becoming a pilot, and you can make much more money when you become a pilot Correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I've read and want to work towards myself Comment from : @tardis4125 |
"10 minutes later you look back and you're 500 ft above the alt you wanted to be at" I'd say the issue is that anyone took 10 minutes to look at their altimeter Even with AP that shouldn't happen Comment from : @JoshSwinson-bj5wn |
just got my private pilot license my instructor has been saying the same things to me I've gotten good on the P factor during climb but the climbing after takeoff and death grip could use some work I will be tying these Comment from : @connor662 |
Tried setting up the cockpit with go pros like you did My instructor was not impressed Comment from : @cmoney2731 |
To his first tip I will say, it’s important to hold on loosely but don’t let go If you cling to tightly, you’re gonna loose control Comment from : @bbrackett5565 |
Instructor is the one who really makes you perfect, I really enjoy my journey with my instructor, I have passed my checkride Thank you for your three basics Comment from : @onebravotango |
Please create an app for android Comment from : @anime14mayo |
Great video! So you use your attitude indicator to level off the and trim that altitude rather than adjusting your power Do you look at your vertical indicator and make sure it zero also I see how all this works together If you just adjust the speed, your vertical climb could so zero, but if pitch isnt ajusted to level youll keep climbing probably into a stallbrNot a pilot but love the physics of flight Comment from : @markhumphrey8894 |
We should also make analog gauges illegal Comment from : @DanFrederiksen |

I was getting instruction in a Cessna 140 At about 5or 6 hours my instructor said I can tell you’re going to be a good pilot I knew it wasn’t t from my tire squealing, wing tip a foot from the ground landings, so I asked why she thought so She said “because the throttle knob isn’t dripping with sweat” 😂 Comment from : @LooseGravel14 |
THANK YOU for the tip about leveling off That happens to me every time and I’m always having to waste time correcting it Comment from : @DuckLord841 |

Good tips Nice presentation Much appreciated Liked and subscribed BIG THANKS Comment from : @conradsenior5843 |
Thankfully I don’t have a death grip, my instructor made sure I was mindful of that from the start so I knew not to, my issue was staring at the instruments more than actually looking out Gotta work on that lol Comment from : @lukethedrifter2281 |
Fully concur Never had that problem when I started learning to fly I fly the way I drive, and it’s pretty much with finger tipsbrI wouldn’t refer to the death group as an f-16 death group though, as the f-16 sidestick is force sensitive and is flown the same way as explained in the video Comment from : @baronvonrichthofen2021 |
Great video and great tips many thanks Comment from : @simplysimulator |
Dude is an animal Thanks! Comment from : @brettdodge8699 |

Do you just have to hold right rudder during the whole flight in that case if power is on during the whole time? Wouldn't that get tiring? Comment from : @thepenmen22 |
Super Comment from : @ambigaisri7214 |
Very cool points Thanks Comment from : @gbanerjea |

My instructor says I have lead feet on the pedals Comment from : @michaelzaug8750 |
From flying r/c for years: isn’t there a rudder trim to help you with torque yaw? Kinda feels redundant to not have a death grip when you have a death stance? Comment from : @3100620842 |
Thank you for putting this up Comment from : @Nethanel773 |
3 great tips I had 2 different CFI's during my training The 1st one, although was a great-experienced pilot, didn't have great communication skills I was always a little on edge with him He taught me much but my 2nd CFI, got me to relax and land confidently You explain things very clearly and easy to grasp I have over 400 hours now but, still enjoy your tips for refreshing my brain to the very important basics 👍 Comment from : @dh-flies |
I just started my training at San Carlos, and this week I'll be flying in the same aircraft in the video! (N2370F) Comment from : @jjraga |
Awesome advise re-enforced Everything you have mentioned is consistently being reinforced by my CFI Peter Kestle Sydney Flight Academy Comment from : @sharkyraaymond6101 |
The one thing you have to remember when flying with trim is that you are flying with trim Comment from : @jsand8301 |
Thanks a lot! Comment from : @serg4753 |
I have to use a death grip when I go pull to up to do as stall My hand is not strong enough to pull up to a stall with 3 fingers Other than that, I can fly with my fingers Comment from : @kimberlywentworth9160 |
Teach me high altitude stuff on the way to key westbrTo have lunch!brErik was impressed!!! Comment from : @nytom4info |

Funnily enough, I learned all of these in DCS just from spending a lot of time in it, the fatigue of holding rudder/roll in place is quite annoying wish I didn't live like a third worlder, flying is one of the only things I actually want to do in life, lolbrbrIf you have the time to answer (and see this) some things I've always been curious about with trim is is there a "reset trim" button that just forces it all neutral at once (perhaps jarringly)? Or does it have to be manually pushed back to neutral with the tools you used to set it (say, a hand crank for example)? And in line with this, when it comes to landing, do you land with specific trim settings, whatever the trim was you were flying with in the air smoothly, or with neutral trim so you can get a "proper" feel what the craft is doing? Since it's not something I'll probably ever get to actually find out, I'm asking because as you said: trim reacts to the air going past it, so I imagine the trim is constantly changing and that's probably not great when you're a split second from slamming into the ground Comment from : @itsukarine |
2:40hold on loosely, but don't let go I see what you did there The guys from 38 Special must've been pilots too Comment from : @SWog617 |
I started flying with my fingers from day 1 because my dad told me to do that when I started driving years earlier Piece of cake and you have a good feel of the airplane Comment from : @georgewyatt2924 |
I am not 18 but I have been trying my best to be able to get my license when I turn how would you recommend to start learning Comment from : @elliotsuing8581 |

So in other words - trim is your very best friend Got it 🙂 Comment from : @KTHR56 |
Gonna use this info when I start flight training soon Feel like the 1st one will come naturally as that is how I drive, but the 2nd one I think will need to come with some experience and some feeling it out Comment from : @Civ33 |
"Pitch Power and Trim, say it with me brothers and sisters Like father, son and holy spirit, pitch power and trim" My flight instructor from 35 years ago still haunts me Comment from : @jeffbetts2 |
The invented "Lindberg Reference" plug again - geez, plz stop with this You are trying to hard to conjure something up that does not need this over-the-top name Comment from : @dexio85 |

A great way to lose your pen in the mechanism of your rudder pedals so maybe not Comment from : @felixthecat3n2 |
rather than having to put right foot on rudder, you can use rudder trim Comment from : @grwaitemd |
really nice video!! Comment from : @SantinoB737 |
It's interesting that I already learned all the mentioned advices as an RC pilot Comment from : @JK-tj6ie |
