I'm Chinese, but we never burnt these kinds of paper money What we burnt were paper that had some gold foil on it, and we had to fold them up into ingot shapes The weekend before Chinese New Year I had to fold several bundles of these, in between doing household chores I somehow did it, though my fingers were quite stiff by the end We also have a custom metal pot thing we use to burn the paper money at homebrbrWe did do the "burning paper version of stuff" thing though On the anniversary of my grandma's death 2 years ago my aunt insisted she needed to burn paper flip-flops for granny because she had dreamt of her looking for them

A lot of these joss banknotes being sold are copier papers, hard to burn and not the real deal Seems even joss money are faked these days I think traditional is important Bamboo and ricepaper No other artificial or recycled material The design should be faithful and true without anything outrageous or crass
