I had 2 sets of Nokian WR D4 They roll nice and smooth, pretty good performance in winter condition and dry, but after two years the rolling surface became oval and the car was bouncing at low speed and vibrating at higher speed With the first set I thought I had bad luck, but after the second set of tyres did the same thing, I gave up and I decided to Never Buy Nokian again Too bad, cause I was pretty pleased with the other aspects

I think the budget tyre should have been a directional variety, thats why it did horribly in the snow and wet conditions, not enough/proper water and snow evacuation There are huge differences between directional and asymetrical tread patterns grip and performance even within the same brand of tyre

i know i will get a lot of snarky rebuttals but i dare to ask , how many of the drivers who buy budget tyres do lap times? more pertinently , the 'premium' tyres that cost more than twice - are they twice good? it didnt seem that way in your videobrbrand , the note you ended up with shows what it really is not all 'premium' tyre manufacturers dont even allow their products be compared against budget offerings because they bknow/b that the difference is really not that much ;)

My thinking has always been that how you drive in the snow is more important than your tires I've driven many winters on all seasons with no issues That said, even the cheapest winter tires will give you a big advantage if you just want them to help out in sticky situations like deeper snow and grabbing better from a dead stop uphill or something You really shouldn't be pushing the limits of your corning grip and braking distances in the snow on public roads

What would be useful to see is how a vehicle performs on budget winter tyres, compare to different types of summer tyres (premium, mid range and budget) brThis would give a good example of every day performances in the cold, wet, slippery and occasionally icy conditions found in winters in the UK br I can't help feeling that even a budget winter would be the superior tyre in those conditions, and perhaps silence some of those doubters who insist they don't need winter tyres

Budget one is definitely geared for city dwellers whose main fear is sliding through intersections, with no concerns about speed The premium one is obviously the only choice for any highway driving - say, to the ski resort (or Canadian inter-city road trips the length of several European countries) I feel like some mid-range all weathers would do just as well as the budget winters, and they'd save you the cost of summer tires

I’ve always used brand winter tires, but I got myself some mid-grade (not the cheapest ones) winter tires this year I figured if I’m only keeping the car for 3-4 years, a mid-grade should do the job The difference in price is definitely interesting! I’m excited to test them this winter knowing I’ll drive a bit more slowly and carefully in case these tires suck 😅

The driving test could be faked according to interestsbrOf course the acceleration and braking ones can be faked as well, but the driving one can be faked using only the acceleration pedal, it's so simple to let the car's rear begin a small drift by slightly releasing the throttle and over correcting while in a curve (and still look like you are powering through the curve), that no test performed by humans would ever be relevant

Nokia admitted that they have given different kind (read:better) of tyres to tyre tests for years, than what are the normal production tyres Nokia send significantly improved tyres to winter tests and they did that on purpose, to manipulate test results, to win the testbrProbably did it in this test too

your videos are really interesting but i'm struggling a bit to validate the information for my personal driving style, because you said that you prefer tires to tend more towards under- than oversteer, while i certainly enjoy utilizing the rotation of the car more than reduced turning ability if your guide is meant in an objective way you should make it clear why you'd prefer an understeery tire even if your driving style was more focussed on keeping a constant level of oversteer
