This was a very interesting story I just like hearing stories like this about valuable coins being left in old abandoned bank vaults and forgotten about over the years if I had to choose an era and a bank vault to pick from It would be the 1900's to 1930's and the bank vault I would pick would be the Butler County National bank from my hometown

My first wife's father would go to the bank every year and get new rolls of every type of coin Perfect, uncirculated, unopened rolls of pennies, nickles, dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollars every year from the early 50's into the 90's I saw boxes and boxes of rolls in his basement, it was mind boggling I've always wondered what happened to them My best find at a flea market was a hoard of various coins I bought all at once and it had three rolls of uncirculated steel pennies One complete roll of S, D and plain, they are all bright and shiny like they were just stamped

We do coin evals and appraisals for our states treasury department specifically the unclaimed property division and there is some wild stuff that come out of unclaimed safety deposit boxes

Back in the 1990s I was working for a company that repaired homes in escrow One job was a divorce sale and while we were working the wife showed up with a metal detecter and started scanning the back yard She dug up several quart jars full of coins Later the husband came back to dig up the jars of coins and was red with anger to find his wife had beaten him to the dig No idea how many coins but it was a lot of jars

The fact these "anonymous" families are liquidating their rare family heirlooms indicates just how much a catastrophe our economy is really in Wealthy people do not usually liquidate these types of assets I've worked with lots of rich people, this is usually the things they keep There was also a lady with an original bank bag of 1000 franklin halves that went up for auction recently The economy is near tanked and inflation is high Good luck out there
