we can't learn what we don't use What we use is what we repeat; therefore, we learn through repetition if and only if it is motivated by the idea of practicality Comment from : @mcrolendpetalcorin109 |

This is not entirely correct Schools use what is called a spiral curriculum In 4th grade kids might learn the basics of American History In 8th grade they learn it in more depth And in 11th grade they cover it in even more depth No student is exposed to a metaphor once and expected to know it for life or the order of operations in math Comment from : @bigredracingdog466 |

I think this video might be my favorite across all amazing videos from this channel As a language learner, I have been listening a lot of tips and lessons from polyglots, and the key of their success is, likely, repetition Establishing habits around the things you wanna keep in mind, learning new things and revisiting previous concepts is the "secret" of lifelong (and maintained) learning Not just for languages, but for anything, I guess Comment from : @higormonteiro7636 |

TERRIFIC, TERRIFIC! In the Talmud there is the story of a dedicated teacherbrRabbi Preida had a student who required 400 repetitions of each lessonbrOne day, Preida was concerned about another matter, and his student couldbrnot concentrate So, Preida, repeated the lesson, 400 times more, for 800 times! Comment from : @harrypearle9781 |

Very compelling, and in terms of the value of Repetition 100 correct, but your video also breathes disrespect for Religion and equal disrespect for History The Religious systems, as you like to portray them, kept society functioning for a very long time In contrast, our secular experiment is marked by unprecedented suffering under Stalin and his successors, Hitler and Hirohito, and under Pol Pot (just to name a few) Though still very young (170 years or so from its inception, and only some 60 odd years in earnest), it is already starting to show signs of the fact that mankind (humankind if you will) doesn't function very harmoniously when 'science' is its only guide We need to know that we are not interstellar dust, not a tragic coincidence of meaningless evolution We need an absolute moral reference that lies outside ourselves, and is summarized by the simple words: Love God, and love your neighbor We need a sense of accountability to One who cannot be bribed, corrupted, or manipulated Before you throw wisdom of millenia into the waste bin, it is wiser to ask yourself why it worked The answer is not just "Repetition" Faith in God is not the product of indoctrination: It is the fruit of a sensing and intelligent soul acknowledging their Creator Comment from : @dutchdekkers4071 |
|
I don't exactly agree with you Constant repetition can keep you in one place and prevent from exploring new ideas It can make a person narrow-minded Comment from : @matas |
|
That's so true, I watch these videos a lot and it helps me keep some of these ideas Comment from : @emergencyjergens |

As a teacher I experienced numerous times during 'teacher training' and 'professional development' the instructor handing out some papers, or talking about a book Invariably if I read the hand out 2-3 times waiting for the class to begin, or if I read the book a second time - I understood more about what they were paid to teach us than they did What's worse than sad, pathetic, is that it wasn't that difficult to read and re-read until understanding (What's absolutely ridiculous is how much money I made from books and articles I've read There is a downside The money is good, but you don't have a feeling of accomplishment because in the end it wasn't at all difficult You have to challenge yourself in other ways)brThe first day of teacher training, I sat through a three hour lecture and took notes while someone with a PhD in education lectured Their first words? "These are the most important theorists of education, while I haven't read their books I've read about them" Comment from : @WillN2Go1 |

I think the ancient Greeks said: 'Repetition is the key to learning'brA method much discredited nowadays Comment from : @margalitvanbergen6620 |

It is the height of arrogance when you keep thinking your secular mentality owes nothing to religion and can thrive apart from it Modern secularism is merely in its infancy away from faith - all the while admitting in bits & pieces that religion wasn’t all wrong until eventually generations later it comes back to realize religion was probably more right than it ever was Yet, secularism will never admit that it was wrong out of sheer pridebrbrYou try to divorce the praxis apart from the religion but it’ll never work The foundation of repetition in religion is Liturgy You can tell people to do something all they want but it will never catch on and thrive apart from a greater & deeper meaning I’m sorry to tell you but Hope & Faith are the virtues that bring life to all our actions & habits - especially repetition Comment from : @redimerfortitudo |

'Why We Only Learn When We Repeat' to translate it into German would mean: "Wieso wir so viele Wiederholungen brauchen" Would you agree? (Because I don't think I need so many repeats) Comment from : @AntjeWeh |

'Many of us are done with religion'? Last I heard 16 of the worlds population was 'secular' and the other 84 identified with some form of religion or spiritual belief, which granted are not synonymous Is 16 considered 'many' now? Empirical secularists, or secular empiricists of all people should be precise with their language, that is assuming you're an empirical secularist, or secularist empiricist, and if you are not an empirical secularist, or a secularist empiricist, or just a bit wooly in general, you can be as imprecise as you like and still sound profound, and sometimes even be so! I'll repeat that just in casewait, what was it again? Comment from : @mononoke721 |
