So, umm, yeah, I seem to remember some guy on the internet saying not to buy cheap tires Guess he was right Comment from : @jfan4reva |
Makes sense that less tread depth has better dry handling - if cost isn't an issue sometimes racers will shave new tyres to maximise performance for a single hot lap Comment from : @blackwolfthedragonmaster |
More concerning to me is a guy that apparently is a tire ( tyre) reviewer can’t even spell TYRE properly 🤦♂️ Comment from : @stewartmccathie7775 |
do the test with an Old but not worn premium tyre vs a new budget one sthng for the mot guys "ah u have old tyres so u need to replace" Comment from : @ps7539 |
The CC2 really destroyed my XT5s Fuel Economy by 30 I truly hate the CC2s, and will returning them to Costco, and get Defender2s Comment from : @pjimmbojimmbo1990 |
Have you ever done a test comparing the same tyre with similar wear but at two different ages? One brand new, the other 4 years old for example? Comment from : @Fabio_Garzena |
Love this! I just bit the bullet and bought the cross climate 2 for my golf alltrack estate This and 4Motion will hopefully be wonderful for our Nebraska snow and ice storms Comment from : @colinatlantic |
Michelin had a problem with torque Pulling car uphill was hard Comment from : @michagiedrojc5513 |
awesome video thank you Comment from : @g6papabear650 |
I had a new crossclimate on front wheels on snowy conditions and I couldn't manage to go up on hill until I change it with cheapest winter tyre 3years old Comment from : @shomi75 |
you found the perfect drift tyre :D Comment from : @Corsa15DT |
Simple conclusion Don’t ever cheap out on tires Do research on the best quality tire for your driving conditions Love the videos keep it up Comment from : @tonyburns5388 |
A year after you put out this video, my first set of new budget tires just proved you right I've driven on these once, and I'll be ordering my usual (Nokian) new tires today The difference is extremely noticeable! Budget tires are horrible Comment from : @lilig6422 |
What a great test! I wonder, how is it with tyre age? For example, how does lightly used but 8 years old Michelin with 6mm tread depth behave compared to new Nankang, Tomket etc? Comment from : @cirkulace |
Maybe you have done it before, but what Im wondering about is cheap new snow tire vs expensive all-season Comment from : @Inbal_Feuchtwanger |
You didn’t get it down to the wear bars Comment from : @fallguy4209 |
Not everyone can afford climate2 Wanker What is more these tire ain’t offered in my size of tire and no I’m not gonna buy rims Fuck you x2 Idiot Comment from : @billybongthorton420 |
Have you ever reviewed Riken Raptor VR tires? I just took them off a BMW X3 M40i in exchange for Michelin Pilot Sport All Season tires I'm wondering if I just spent money unnecessary when the Rikens only had 5K on them Comment from : @andrewruns |
normally deep tread makes a tire "sloppy" Comment from : @donwest5387 |
Crossclimate on a GTI? Would they work all year around? If yes, that would make them really good tires Comment from : @blackcatsarenopussies |
A wintertyre is worn with 4mm, you shoudn't use it with only 2,5mm anymorebrDon't know about cc tyres, but for winteruse i suspect the same?brThis video shows clearly why you should not waste you money on Chinesium rubbish tyres brWhen it rains, they are leathal, and a hazzard for safety Comment from : @nicodenhaak3961 |
To be fair, the Michelin is not a "worn" tire, it is a machined tire The material of a worn tire has seen UV-light and temperature changes for a couple of seasons and never wears down perfectly even Comment from : @mpauls85 |
a machine worn tyre isnt the same as normal worn tyre most tyres that are worn are a few years old The rubber would have degraded Not a very meaningful test Comment from : @steviegbcool |
I buy nothing but Cross Climate tires every since they were introduced! They have been phenomenal and have never let me down in performance While I drive very cautiously in the snow and rain, bad tires don't care how well you drive Cross Climate may cost a bit more than most tires, but they are worth it Especially with how the weather is here in Colorado Comment from : @sirblack1619 |
The rubber degradation of old tyres is also and important factor that cannot be tested here Comment from : @LeeSkJohn-sv8wi |
measure the tread block width versus worn versus new This is going to equal more surface area and better performance on dry brThis greater width when worn is because all tread is angled in like a pyramid If it wasn't you wouldn't be able to get it off the molding machine Comment from : @monsaka7827 |
In what world is Michelin tire a "budget" tire? They´re ones of the most expensive tires on the market Comment from : @Morpheus-pt3wq |
I always buy old used premium tyres, they still have 7-8mm thread only that they are 2-3 years old Comment from : @RidingWithGerdas |
No wet breaking? Comment from : @HarleyN93 |
I’m getting a new set today of CC2 Thanks for great reviews Boss! Comment from : @rommelgallego2943 |
MJ Sokolik I was wondering if you could say depth in US Scale also Thanks for an awesome video, you have more nerves than I do ! Comment from : @dawnsokolik7837 |
Michelin remains top notch Comment from : @tomekichiyamamoto2177 |
I was hoping for an independent test but its fairly obvious this is an advert for Michelin A machined down tyre has been provided which is straight out of the TV advert playbook, the wet braking section is skipped over even though this is probably one of the most important safety tests for a tyre in the UK, and the marketing phrases are repeated verbatim Comment from : @dunk8157 |
Whatever you buy, just don't by Michelin Comment from : @ampm9771 |
Not really winter tyres 😂 Comment from : @anamnesiser |
Machined to low profile and years of using tire is not the same Comment from : @Woof514 |
Premium tires, I don't buy them just for their features when they are new It's just that a premium tire works after 3 years
brA low-budget tire is a throwaway after the first year Comment from : @Batler631 |
Why are you always testing in snow? Comment from : @ynte8114 |
CrossClimate2 is a great tire, but the difficulty in rotating them makes it not ideal for aggressive drivers who will push the front tires with under-steer prematurely wearing the outer edge Comment from : @RJ_Cormac |
I know that the Cross Climate is very expensive, but I always recommend my customers if they want a really good all season tyre the Cross Climate is for them! I love fitting Cross Climates! The feel of the rubber to the likes of a Tomket or another budget tyre is in another world!!!! Comment from : @CPLP2023 |
Its because you chose Michelin as the used tire michelin has always been softer than other brandsbrEven a 10y old Michelin tyre is softer than a new budget tire and has more grip Comment from : @Jien75 |
Excellent video I’ve always wondered how good premium tyres were when worn Seems it is more cost effective to buy premium Comment from : @neilanderson2374 |
Winter tire AGE is more important than their depth after 3-5 years the compound used gets hard, plastic-alaike and thus I would like to see the test of 5-years premium even not worn vs new budget brTherefore provided not reliable test IMHO Comment from : @coolerw |
Throughout my 24 years of driving experience, i have formed my opinion to stay away of budget tires, and change my premium tires on time Simple as that This is my advise Comment from : @AsteroSSB |
I would replace winter tires at least after 4 years if you wan't to play it safe I even replace winter tires after 3 years, when they have only seen about 15'000 kilometers I know that's not much, but tests showed that only after 8000 kilometers the winter tires will start to lose grip With summer tires you can go for 5-6 years, I'd say I wouldn't try tro go through heavy rains on fast speed with a 6 year old summer tire Comment from : @disdonc6012 |
I noticed that with my Bridgestone Alenza ultras They performed wonderful at 3/32 compared to my budget tires that lasted as long or longer but I’d pull off by 5/32 due to hydroplaning (Florida driving) Comment from : @NoName-tz5ji |
in Latvia winter tire minimal limit is 4mm and summer tire is 1,6mm, so kinda curious which countries limit is he mentioning :D Comment from : @mercetajs |
I'm not surprised I drove with bald tires on compact snow while the pickup truck ahead of me rolled over and went into the median Comment from : @charles2411-i8f |
In my country winter tires should be min 4 mm Summer tires can be min 16 mm Comment from : @DeanIvanov |
I believe the main concern with worn tires is the aging of the rubber, which is quite important for winter tires Wearing out a tire for 1 or 2 seasons is more the exception and not the rule, so this comparison is kind of synthetic Good video though Cheers Comment from : @nonstopbg |
To make it fair use v pattern for the budget tire Comment from : @Jozavenue |
Say that to my X-Ice Snows They're down to 4-5mm and they're GARBAGE Comment from : @Sudz3 |
I only watched 2 minutes , well it's not a good test First it cross climate tire , not winter Second , it's a machined tire as you said , so the rubber is actually brand new , not old , not worn in a regular way- not aged 3rd They gave you the tire , of course it has to be the winner Comment from : @kisspeteristvan |
I believe the question people have is never about thread depth But age, as the tire compounds change (might harden) over time Comment from : @peterpixo |
Pretty weird angle to test this theory in my opinion, I'd even say dangerous considering the subject But I do understand it's hard to obtain actually "aged tires" in real world conditions, while still having a sufficient sample size to eliminate anomaliesbrShould probably mention as a disclaimer that "worn" tires does not mean old tires, since sanding them down doesn't do a lot of the real world stresses like heat/cold cycles, impacts from the road, cuts/damage from the road, sitting for days in a car park with bad pressure, or other things that will ruin a tire like just simply time passing while exposed to the elements Comment from : @cristi724 |
"machined down" dude this wrong end of video Comment from : @ΔημητρηςΚαραγιωργος |
Can you make a test with a little worn premium Wintertire (best just buy a worn tire, so it's also aged at least 2 years) vs a new Michelin Crossclimate 2 Would be interesting how much the difference is as many argue you're better with Wintertires, but the Wintertires would last more than double the time because you drive it only half a year per Year, so with All Seasons you're driving more often with new Tires Comment from : @D00MINIK |
Thank you This is very important and very informative Amazed & pleased that you do this Comment from : @lawrenceralph7481 |
The dry handling of the Tomket is surprisingly good! Comment from : @anidiotinaracingcar |
I wonder how they age and deal with heat cycles Would you consider redoing that test with a 4/5/6 year old tire that has actually been driven 50000 km, spent time in the direct sun, at 50°C, at -20°C, spent 6 months underinflated, etc? Comment from : @anidiotinaracingcar |
Rubber also ages as you drive Heat and cold, and the mechanical stress of actual driving the car will have a big impact This is not a relevant test Comment from : @r3lu1984 |
Used 1 set of michelin cross climate for 3 and a half years in an awd juke nismo and never had any trouble with traction in snow or mud, handling on dry or wet roadsbrbrMain reason I'm trying a budget brand this time is that is at £180 a tyre for Michelin and needing a full set replaced at same time is practically a mortgage paymentbrbrGiving Radar Dimax 4 season a go this time at £85 a tyre No qualms about them being alright throughout the year on wet and dry roads with pretty normal driving, just hope they give enough traction in snow espcially up hill to feel as safe as I did with Michelin's onbrbrIf anyone has used Radar Dimax 4 Season before would appreciate some feedback on them Comment from : @Frarango |
Maybe members can see the expansive/continuous/series worn tire tests? Like Consumer Reports member or customer model? One to two brands at a time to lessen the burden and prolong the interests?brAlso, I live in a place that when it rains, highways turn into hydroplaning water slides (so are their ups, downs, lefts, rights, twists, turns, water streams, pools), so the 1mm water stormy simulation is very very relevant to me Crashed once and slid many times Comment from : @TYAC_red |
I want your job I love doing stuff like this Comment from : @billmalec |
The tyre ist machined down to 2 mm? It's a new tyre! It's all about that the old tyre loses it's properties with a time Comment from : @ma74ch |
i've said it before to friends, michelin tires ARE just THE best tires :) brYou can say what you want, but you get what you pay for and they WORK! Comment from : @daquarius1222 |
man I love the video and your test technics, comments, video quality, all !! thank you and keep uo the good work! Comment from : @hashusx |
Hi, why not show Sava HP2 since this is also cheap tire and also better than some china tires? BR Comment from : @DIESELB1GV8 |
very well done Comment from : @micheljauvin3536 |
If you drive in cold climates with snow and ice (I'm from Finland), don't save on winter tyres I bought "new" studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5 (they were old stock and wasn't told, five year old DOT date) First winter was ok and second one was already horriblebrbrAlso with China/cheap tyres tend to lose grip suddenly without warning Proper tyres will lose grip gradually and somewhat "warn" you before Comment from : @Tsiikki |
Those budget tires look identical to a nokian WR G4 Comment from : @hummyhero1484 |
Buy the best tyres you can afford 😊 Comment from : @alandickson4799 |
If the compound is new but just machined down, this test is not accurate Comment from : @ollivainikainen9388 |
I am puzzled Most people who bought the CrossClimate 2 tires say that their gas mileage took a hit That they are now getting around 2 mpg's less But how could that be if the CC2's are supposed to have impressively low rolling resistance? Comment from : @craigster1234 |
Really nice video! Comment from : @MrTeknown |
I had a set of the original cross climate tyres and was amazed at their performance but I found them a bit noisy now I have just bought a set of cross climate 2 and well they are absolutely brilliant in the wet The one thing I have also found is they seam to pull to the dead ahead always ,even in corners which has taken a little bit of getting youst to brI have a audi a3 tfsi and my fuel consumption has improved buy about 25 brIn the wet which we get allot of in Ireland 🇮🇪, I can't believe the difference with my old tyres brSo I was delighted to see your comparisons, and your conclusions Comment from : @fintincollins5103 |
What rubbish This guy is paid a fine premium by the premium tyre manufacturers Each time i buy tyres i always get asked why do i want to waste money on Michelin or Goodyear Comment from : @Dusty2feathers |
He also sells aftershave that smells of rubber, always sold out😅 Comment from : @mvnorsel6354 |
