I know this video is 2 years old, but if anyone sees this I want to add what I have learned I'm a very visual person, I always have been I'm also an artist, I do not struggle from aphantasia Pictures, sounds, voices, etc I can see them like you might see and hear someone in the same room I can do this for everything BUT numbers Numbers are blurry, smudged I cannot remember them at all On a whim I decided to finally after decades, to just change all numbers to shapes I feel like I've been an idiot all along I bought a soroban style abacus, and I calculated in seconds mentally after learning how to manipulate the beads because mentally I can see the abacus The pictures are there I don't know if I have dyscalculia or not definitively, but trying for years with basic numbers did not help me at all Comment from : Bubble Tea |

By 1:48, I was already in tears I am an adult and I suffered HORRIBLY throughout high school with math I attempted nursing school (my math entrance score was not high enough but due to COVID, they pulled the wait list names) but suffered something serious in pharmacology Every Youtube video was the same, they all talked about this one method of solving equations that was supposed to be so easy It was extremely complicated to me I tried to tell my instructors that I wasn't good with math, but they all just kind of act like if you practice it will come to you I don't have a definitive diagnosis of Dyscalculia having never been formally assessed b/c no one knew about this I urge anyone with a child who is suffering through math to get tested and get them the help they need This does not go away and it has interrupted every educational opportunity for me, despite doing well in other subjects It is frustrating to say the least and causes a great deal of emotional pain Thankful to have come across this video, it was encouraging especially when so little is being said about Dyscalcuila Comment from : M J |

My granddaughter has this and is in 11th grade and has assisted instruction However, she wants to go to college and we want her to have that opportunity and at least try How do we figure out what degree she should go in that will not exacerbate math issues We are looking at her getting assisted with her studies through the disability assisted department( I don’t recall actual name) With the diagnosis I know per the ADA she can’t be discriminated against She does not know yet what to go for but she does have a fear of failing due to it Comment from : Ru T |

Beyond grateful I found your video I am now subscribed as I need all the help I can find I was diagnosed with ADHD at the ripe age of 35 😑 and all my life… my parents criticized me for not being able to make honor role, why I couldn’t excel in school like my other cousins and family members, etc They’d say things like, “_i______/i is not smarter than you! why do they get better grades?” Or make assumptions that I must be daydreaming in class when I struggled my entire academic life (in mathematics) It’s gotten so much worse as I’ve gotten older as I graduated college in 2009 and any muscle memory I had with math is completely gone The awful thing about this all is, as you said, the EMOTIONAL damage that comes with an undiagnosed disability ☹️ My reading level and vocabulary was at a collegiate level in middle school so there’s NO WAY anyone in my life - including instructors would have guessed I had a learning disability 🥺 brbrOur teachers need to get paid more!! They need to be trained (not in depth) on recognizing disabilities, as do guidance counselor’s and anyone involved in academia If I was diagnosed earlier as a teen, I would have built such a stronger foundation to overcome the emotional aspect of self deprecating failure Knowing how intelligent you are, how HARD you’re trying to understand and the frustration of feeling like the dumbest person ☹️ It’s so hard to stop the negative self-talk because it’s been INGRAINED in the very fiber of my being since I was a child My inner voice is a BULLY that needs to go away for good! I refuse to be a victim Knowing what I know now, I OWE IT TO MYSELF to be patient and kind (to myself) For anyone feeling the same - do not give up and know that you are not alone!!brbrI am going to rewatch this video several times You are honestly an inspiration and anyone that has you in their corner is truly blessed ❤️ brbrThank you again 🥺❤️ Comment from : J Aboulhosn |

This is a well and good, but we need to be able to function in this department It’s a math world We need help centers The world needs to bring this to the forefront and out in the public eye There needs to be help in all schools of learning for all ages and grade levels and college There needs to be centers for adults of all ages , to enroll in , that are out in the world struggling just to live , or find work that they can do and keep doing This is a deeper impacting disability than the public is aware of and affects so many, of all ages It isn’t spoke of because of shame You have to pass tests to graduate, to get a degree, to perform on jobs I can’t retain a lot of the math that I have learned This is a tragic life sentence for many of us We need a foundation for this very real debilitating disability We need to bring it out of the dark and very much into the light so that people of all ages can get help, to LIVE FREE , EQUAL AND HAPPYAND SUCCESSFULmany adults long to be reeducated to open new roads to being able to compete to become gainfully employed To be able to excel in life We need to come together and start a new branch in the education world , for a very real and present disability , that actually is affecting thousands , if not, millions of people that really only a small number of people know and talk of because it is kept hidden in darkness because of shame We need to put a very bright light on this and start actually SAVING LIVES PEOPLE ARE MORE THAN MATH AND HAVE MUCH TO OFFER IN SO MANY OTHER AREAS BUT BECAUSE OF THIS EVIL DISABILITY, ARE CRIPPLED TO REACHING THEIR FULL POTENTIAL THEIR DREAMS ARE SUFFOCATED WE NEED TO GIVE THEM WINGS TO FLYwe need networks to advocate to bring awareness, development, support and life saving resources to get help to all people plagued by this disability and the pain, shame, and suffering it causes It’s stigmatic and crippling We need to actwe need advocacythe government, medical and educational worlds need to come together on this and provide insight, diagnosis, treatment, counseling, and learning development resources to equate skills in math to the ability toward empowering individuals to be able to learn, achieve and CONQUER THIS VERY REAL HAUNTING DEMON HIDDEN DEEP WITHINSO MANY , CRYING INSIDE, FOR HELPthough there are many of us, each person suffering from this , feels very isolated and alone We carry it hidden inside , but longing to be free from its clutches Comment from : R S |
|
you are really cool I like you keep the good work ^_^ Comment from : Lotus |

It feels so good to know that I'm not alone I home school my two boys I used to ask God why am I homeschooling? After all, I have this awful learn disability? All I head is my grace is sufficient So I decided to keep pressing and see what happens I decided today that I am going back to college, so I jump on Youtube, thinking someone has to have something for people with dyslexia in math Nobody but God I truly need some type of support group if I'm going to get through college math I will not allow this disability to define me or set limits on my dreams I would love to join any of your groups or follow you on other platforms Mrs Lumpkin Comment from : Lenora Fields |
|
If I drop out of school because I'm not good enough and a failure who has dyscalculia, could I still find a job? Could I still try to chase after my childhood dreams or am I trying to reach for the impossible? Am I going to be a burden to everyone like my my family thinks of me or can I do something and work on myself? Should I just end it all? That seems like the only solutions, but I have no idea how I should do it I am permanently thrown at with thousands of papers of school work so I barley have time to take care of myself My siblings don't care about me My parents just "beat me up" over my failure ( not actually, more like verbally, or talking about what they are going to do with a failure like me within a room as me so I hear every single word ) Comment from : Black Cat |
|
