I must have watched this about 5 to 6 years ago, struggling a lot with certain concepts and grammar of english as i had just started intuitively understanding the language Now it's become second nature, it doesn't even feel foreign anymore, even though i still have to look up some words from time to time Either way it's so satisfying to see the evolution like that, knowing that at one point i had trouble understanding the simplest things

I have a traumatic brain injury I’ve had it since I was an infant I do not get math In my fifties I probably never will I am however bilingual, an interpreter, and an interpreter educator This has saved my brain according to my neurologist Not only am I bilingual, but my job means I have to do the hardest neurological task the human brain can do - think in two languages at the same time

I love being bilingual Because I was monolingual for most of my life, I treat my new found superpower with reverence I'm now 18 months into learning a third language Give me a few years of hard work, and I should be able to say that I'm multilingual

I also wanted to add that the difference between languages really makes you think differently, too For instance, some languages have f/m/n pronounces, and it alters your vision of these things To me, English seems much more reserved than Russian, German, and my native language, which have those pronouns "Flat" sounds neutral compared to "квартира"(f) or "wohnung"(f) English and my native language are much more similar than Russian, so when I explain constructions in English, it is easier to explain in my language, while you have to change the whole structure with RussianbrIn addition, I realized that in a neutral setting, it is much easier for me to speak Russian However, when I am angry or reprimanding, I automatically speak my native language
