Folks, Scotty is way, way, waaaaaaaay off on the maintenance costs of a 911 and Porsches in general I own two Yes, they cost a little more to maintain but are very solidly built and will go 70, 80, 90 thousand miles before needing any major repairs, probably even longer You can even do the oil changes yourself And they are a blast to drive Even the Cayenne Buy a three year old Cayenne with 30 thousand miles for the same price as new Toyota Highlander, which can’t match the driving experience of a racing car bred Porsche

Sorry Scotty, I have a millennial edition 911-996 It is an absolutely beautifully engineered driving machine A small number of the 996's had a problem with the IMS bearing, and yes it is an expensive fix However, like most 996 owners, mine did/does not have that problem They are THE penultimate driver's car (also the 997) and I would highly recommend them

I bought a 2014 Porsche Cayman 27 model new in 2013 To date, I've replace an oil sensor about $240 and a battery replaced the factory with a refurbished Allstate battery for $125 That's it in a total for 55k miles over 11 year period So, I've always taken what Scottie says with a grain of salt Truthfully, the more I watch him the less credibility I give him

Scotty…I question your overall knowledge of the vehicles you condemn First…the brand is pronounced Porsche (Porscha) Not Porsh… Anyone knowing the history and heritage of that brand would NEVER call it that! Second… I am the proud owner of a 2008 Solstice and am VERY familiar with the design and engineering that went into the car The car was a quality build with no consistent problems Very much a blast to own and drive!! I interact with dozens of owners on a regular basis and have never heard talk of them “falling apart”

My solstice has 175k and so far it’s only needed vvt solenoids and coolant temp sensor I still have motor mounts and tie rods on my todo list but if the 24 ever does die it’s getting a ls or it

If you MUST buy a used sports car, stick with the 06 and up Porsches Had plenty and they really are pretty solid cars, as long as you stick with a 911 or Boxster/Cayman Just have a pro check it out first

I have owned a 2007 MB SLK 280 for the past two years It’s my daily driver No expensive repairs just maintenance I love it All of these cars are dependent on the care provided by the previous owners A solstice looks cheap to me and I’m too tall for it so I wouldn’t buy one If a previous owner kept a solstice in the garage and maintained it I’m sure it could be a good used car for someone if that’s what you’re into It’s all about knowing the maintenance and repair history of the car and getting it inspected before you buy it

I like scotty but my wife bought a solstice when it had 20000 miles for 6000 dollars It now has almost 100000 miles driven daily and being a mechanic i really apreciate the cars durabilly Aside from brake pads and oil changes all i had to do was a water pump at 93000 miles It was not beat on though by the original owner or us Very good car

I don’t know why Scotty says this about the 911, I have seen many over the 200k miles, with just basic maintenance, pretty reliable, very fun to drive, and with a very good resale value, actually one of the best resale value of all cars of all brands It’s one of the best sports cars to buy !!! The Mercedes Benz SL 55 AMG 2005-2008 are very good sports cars too, very very reliable, small issues like engine oil leaking Oh and I love Toyota/Lexus too, don’t get me wrong !!!

The solstice NA are pretty reliable as are the Porsche boxter Ironically, you’re better off getting a higher mileage boxter if you fear the IMS issue At least from my research Do your own obviously

If I had to go German, it would be Porsche Of all the German brands its built pretty solid But if you buy a Porsche, you already know theres going to be some things that pop up Like getting the IMS fixed if it hasnt been done already and while the engine is out, you might as well get a preventative maintenance done

I've been driving an Opel GT Roadster (German version of Pontiac Solstice) since 2010 The thing is fast as hell and a pleasure to drive The Opel has a 2 liter engine with 267 hp The only thing that failed over the years was the battery Otherwise no repair costs and that at over 90,000 km A friend of mine has been driving the same model since 2009 No repair costs at all so far This report here is pure nonsense🤘🤘

No performance car is cheap lol As for the 996 and 986 its mostly the IMS baring and bore scoring Most 911 models retain their value and even go up in value at times No sports car should be someones daily though
