Curious comparison of m4 pro compared to m4 with same 512 and 24mb configuration Comment from : @sherrikrams6786 |

On my PC equipped with an AMD Ryzen 9 7900 processor and a standard NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card, it takes 5 seconds to reduce noise on a 24-megapixel photo Comment from : @alessandrovignoli |

Hi thanks for this video, would the m4 pro 48 gig 14 Core be sufficient for music making / production Comment from : @VictorJimenez-s7z |
Bought a M4 with 32gb over the base M4 Pro before watching this video 😭 Comment from : @GregoryChan |
Thanks for this Art! Can you offer any experience on working with hundreds of 45 megapixel images and using LRc to apply multiple AI masks? I would love to be able to efficiently go none by one and hit previous as I go and make small tweaks per image but on my M2 Max 16” MBP (just the standard configuration w/32GB ram and a 1TB) it takes like up to 5 sec per image So I can only get like a handful of shots done per minute I didn’t know if this kind of task would be meaningful better and more efficient with a different machine like an M2 Ultra or the M4 Pro Comment from : @kenmarcou |
Why does my Mac Mini M4 Pro hit 106°C on some cores during stress tests, and score only 19,400 in Cinebench R23 multicore? Comment from : @Games_and_Tech |
Would the Chip upgrade make the M4P more competitive with the M2Max in Lightroom and FCP? My 2017 IMac is dying and i don’t have the patience or time to Waite for the M4Max to come out Comment from : @jimpack9622 |

Hi all I'm new to the apple I never thought I would consider an apple but I know I'm only looking at apple for the task I need completed I will be processing 360 vr video which are huge files I will get the pro Is it that much better to go with the base pro or upgrade to 14/ 20 cote with 24 ram Or stay base pro and just upgrade the ram to 48 I am so impressed with the work you put together on this video Very informative I was originally going with the m4 but you showed me to go with the pro I would great appreciate your help with this decision Thanks Comment from : @wazirhussain962 |

Hello! I would need a specialist's opinion in the field I would like to switch from Windows to MacOs I am currently working on an AMD Ryzen 7 770x Desktop with 64 Ggia Ram and an NVidea 3060 OC video card I have turned my attention to the Apple Mac Mini PC with Apple M4 Pro processor, 12 CPU cores and 16 GPU cores, 24GB, 512GB SSD or the Apple Mac Mini PC with Apple M4 Pro processor, 14 CPU cores and 20 GPU cores, 24GB, 512GB SSD or the Apple Mac Mini PC with Apple M4 Pro processor, 14 CPU cores and 20 GPU cores, 48GB, 1TB SSD I mention that I use LR photo editing and video in Davinci Resolve 4k in multicam (2 maximum 3 cameras) Are the ones I mentioned above better than the system I mentioned first in Windows and is it worth switching to Mac or not and which of the ones listed would cope? Thank you Comment from : @cipro2000 |
Great video thanks! Even so, I'm still unsure which MM4 to go for I'm a retired amateur photographer still using a 2017 iMac with 24GB/1TB Fusion and a bunch of TB external NVMe drives I use Lr and Ps and next to no video production I was leaning towards the MM M4 24GB/512 SSD and using my TB drives If I have to I can always put my home folder and applications on a TB drive But the speed of some of the processes outlined here make the M4P is appealing But they're AU$2,199 vs AU$1,599, and extra $600 I can justify the M4 as it's probably time to upgrade anyway But spending the extra for the M4Pro makes me think do I really even need to update I am using OCLP to run Sequoia anyway and so far had no glitches with that SO what do you guys think? Comment from : @johnpfeffer3933 |
I’m jumping in from intel Based on your tests and upgrade strategy would you recommend an M4 with 32gb ram or M4pro24gb ram? both with 1tb of ssdbrbrAt what point does upgrading RAM become less important than upgrading the chip? Comment from : @bennetthong8306 |
Thank you for your great review!brÎn România the mini m4p cost 1720$ and it will be available only from 1502, and the studio m2m cost 1989$ special offer, so the difference is only 270$, not 600brShould I buy the m2m now (special offer 1989$ from 2191$)brI us now a MacBook m1max but I need one desktop for my assistant to edit in LightroombrbrThank you! Comment from : @alexeicristeaphotography |

A more empirical question, if I upgrade from a Macbookpro from 2018 to a simple M4 Mini base, how impressed/disappointed will I be? Comment from : @dekar5 |
What does increasing, from 24 GB to 48GB or 64GB, the RAM on the M4 Pro do for the tests It seems as though the amount of RAM may seriously impact the test performance of thes systems; greatly Comment from : @waynej1883 |
I usually edit footage between 1 minute to 10 minutes, cuts, basic color correction and some animated titles I really don't think it's too much Is it worth investing in the M4 pro or would it be ok for a while in the M4 basic? saving that 800$ for the future would be a good idea?
brPS I come from windows with AMD Ryzen 5 2600X and 32 of RAM, 1070ti 8gb
brwill the productivity be noticeable? Comment from : @paulocon4842 |
is the mac M4 Pro as fast as a RTX 4060 video card for using Flux and ComphUI for AI image making I see no information on this Comment from : @goactivemedia |

I bought a refurbished 16 inch MacBook Pro M1Max with 2 terrabytes drive and 64 GB memory and 32 graphic cores I would love to see how it compares in performance Comment from : @terrystaniforth7035 |

This was insane, I was confused by replacing my Macstudio by a new Mac mini m4 pro, but considering about connectivity, my workload need to connect 4 monitors brThanks for your video, I probably stay with my studio and wait for next gen of it :D Comment from : @dinhdobathi |
I can get an Apple refurbished Mac Studio with M2 Max for the same price as an m4PRO mini Which would you choose? Comment from : @itsgmani |
Again, such a great help For those of us that find Apples upgrades to be ridiculous $$, we’ll likely buy an external SSD for the Mac Mini M4 Pro OS on an external can be problematic; so can moving the Home folder What route would you recommend at the start, brand new? Move the startup disk to an external; move the home; move all the applications…? Comment from : @photobydrea867 |
Hello Art, thank you for your in-depth review I need your advice I'm considering buying a Mac desktop for gaming, specifically for X-Plane 12 I've been an Apple user since 1988 and find PCs unintuitive and clunky Should I go for the Mac Studio with a more powerful GPU or the Mac Mini Pro? I don’t mind the price difference as long as one offers significantly better performance for gaming (specifically xPlane 12) Comment from : @sinereb |
Thank you for this amazing review I still have a question Which Mac mini is best for profesional music studio recording and video editing? Comment from : @BlueMata |
I'm developing mobile/digital/VR games on PC, though, need MacOS and XCode to compile builds into the format required for the app store's submission requirements The main workload and testing is on PC, but I've also been craving to create apps for Vision too, so I'm wondering whether the M4 Pro Mac Mini base is sufficient Comment from : @UneditedRequiem |
Really great Video - thank you very much I bought the mini m4pro, but I can give it back I do first Video rendering and as I understood in your Video, Studio with m2 max would be better, the ultra than even much better, right? Comment from : @area28 |
you read my mind! Thanks Art! Comment from : @photobydrea867 |

What display you use to mac mini? What you think abort Asus pro art 279crv for amateur photography with m4 24gb 512ssd? Comment from : @kamilcwojd7089 |
Thank you for the comprehensive overview I’m upgrading from an Intel-based iMac, and have been on the fence about which M4 model to purchase I’m no longer working at the pro level in photography, and will seldom if ever need to process or export large numbers of images I mostly work with large composites with multiple layers in PS and a host of plugins I’ve been anxious to move on from my eight year old iMac for more than a year, waiting for Apple to launch the M4 Mini I can’t decide if I should go with a base unit with the max RAM and 512 SSD, or with the Pro in its base configuration I want to get this right, as it’s likely to be my primary machine for years Any thoughts? Again, I appreciate the time you took to make the level and type of comparisons you made Comment from : @rogerlove7588 |
Amazing, Thanks Comment from : @ricardobirnbaum |

I'm just wondering whether to choose Mac mini m4 pro 14/20br64gb RAM or Mac Studio 12/30 64gb RAM I work with video in fcpx and photo in Lightroom However, with GPU testing the studio performs better I have one foot in choosing Mac Studio but I still have thoughts whether it is better to invest in the latest m4 pro I also would like to work with Mac for a few years Currently iMac 2020 with 96gb RAM 16gb radeon pro 5700xt i7 intel Comment from : @moonmoon1816 |
I had one thing I wanted to see, that wasn't possible in this mixbrbrThe Mac Mini M4 with 512GB and 16GB Ram and the Mac Mini M4 Pro base configuration have the processor difference which gives you 2 more cores and 6 more GPU cores and a 3X ish higher memory bandwidthbrbrIt's not clear to me that the Mac Mini M4 pro base model is worth $400 more than the Mac mini m4 with 512GB and 24GB RambrbrIn the deltas that are 2X, my question is whether that is the lesser amount of RAM creating most of the performance difference, or the additional cores and memory bandwidthbrbrI realize the M4 Pro also includes TB5 and the ability to upgrade the processor and larger Ram options, but I would be curious to see a side-by-side comparison with the base model Mini M4 Pro and the $999 configuration of the Mini M4 with 512/24brbrThanks Comment from : @timwheelermusic |
This is a really informative video I've watched it multiple times Thank you for providing such rich informationbrI have one question I am currently using an M2 MacBook pro, and I mainly edit 4K footage with Final Cut Pro and Premiere I don't do much 3D work, but I do some 2D graphics The size of each project is usually around 2-4 TB In this case, would it be better to buy a Mac Mini M4 Pro chip or a Mac Studio M2 Max chip? Comment from : @user-qt4ii1wtvg |
Oh woah, I’m expecting delivery of my M4 Pro Mac min in the next week, upgrading from 2017 Intel iMac, and was planning to use Migration Assistant Why is that not recommended? @11:54 Comment from : @GregzVR |

Can you include HandBrake compression in your future analysis? After exporting from the editing software, we always run the files through HandBrake before delivery Comment from : @theSupergrapher |

It’s mind blowing how comprehensive this comparison is 🤯 Wonder how long it took you to obtain all the data Waiting for my MM M4 Pro to arrive Comment from : @852foodie |

this was super informative Comment from : @oregonduc |

Great video! I have a few Lightroom-specific questions for M4 I assume the catalog and photos were stored directly on the laptop Based on your experience and testing, have you noticed any performance differences when the catalog and photos are on an external drive instead? If not, what would you recommend as the minimum speed for the external drive to match the internal SSD's performance for tasks like sky/subject masking and exporting? Wondering if it is worth spending money on upgrading the internal SSD Thanks in advance Comment from : @vancouverphotographer |

bro you just did everything you can do in any mac :) appreciate the work ❤❤ Comment from : @loaymohamed8891 |

My current PC has the i5-9400F and AMD RX 5700XT I currently max out around 20GB of ram whilst editing photos and export 4K video but I am bottlenecking my CPU By no means am I a PRO or know much of the computer jargon (still learning)
br
brBut I am torn and haven't found the right mac mini yet I was intially set on the M4 mini pro with 24GB ram But I am seeing the regular mini handle well with 16GB of ram as well
br
brI edit videos and photos every other week I have clients coming in for my business and I suspect I will be on the mac every week now (at least 2-3x per week)
br
brWhich is the better option? Comment from : @leviybarra2885 |

M1 Ultra with 64GB Ram oder M4 Pro with 48GB Ram? Comment from : @jensche21 |

Does Lightroom export be faster if I have more RAMs? Thinking of getting the M4 Pro base but ax out the ram to 48GB Comment from : @StephenNg95 |
This is a really good review, thank you for your effort Based on my use and budget, I’ve gone with the M4 Mini Pro (base option) as I’m upgrading from the M1 Mini 16GB 512GB I’m using LR with 3rd party noise reduction, Audicity for audio podcasts editing, and Final Cut for video editing To get the base Mac Studio M2 Ultra is $800 more Cdn At this point, M4 Mini or Mini Pro is so much better than the M1 that I have, that it’s going to help quite a bit, especially now that I’m getting into astrophotography which is has to stack hundreds to thousands of files to make one image (star alignment, image processing for imperfections) Glad to see that the middle of the road performance vs the top Core computers is still pretty good! The Mac Studio M2 Ultra base in Canada is $5500! Comment from : @zalllon |
Excellent video! Could you elaborate on the thermal performance differences between the machines, especially under heavy workloads? I'm concerned about noise levels Comment from : @AMZtechofficial |
Is it a mistake to upgrade to the M2 Max 64gb ram and 1tb storage for 4K multi-cam video editing now? I'm coming from a 27" 2015 iMac intel so any upgrade will be miles ahead of what I'm working with and I need something now Is it a mistake getting the M2 Max now or if i should wait for the M4 Max studio next year and get the mini? Would appreciate any advice! Comment from : @shreddykrueger9171 |
Re LR testing: When you say “export 1k” is that exporting 1000 images? brbrMy M1 MBP with just 8GB forces a quit if I attempt more than about 35/40 images (raw to full size jpg) Comment from : @jamesshephard2013 |
There is too much in this video confused me more I wish someone would actually talk about memory more They say stuff but 24GB seems to be plenty for most now do u upgrade to 48GB or just a waste? I just wish someone would explain more about 16gb and 32gb and 48GB and who that's geared to or just wasting money Comment from : @AtortAerials |
Great video! Thinking to go with m4 mac mini with 256gb ssd and 24gb ram Im a Pro photographer Can i get away with 256 gb ssd instead of 512 if i keep all my files on external ssd and keep only apps and os in internal ssd? Comment from : @chidambaramchitti6118 |
Hey, this is great! Hopefully you do that video on how you set up a new machine because I am doing exactly that coming from an Intel Mac I’m going to the M4 these days I do lots of video production and lots of photo editing so fingers crossed you do that videofor someone coming from a 2020 iMac to the M4 pro Comment from : @JoshYenne |
In the SoC Recommendation section, why is the M4 Pro always lower ranked than the M3 Pro? Comment from : @philotographer5736 |
Great job!! Gonna wait for those MS M4M Comment from : @Daguigoz |
Very well presented comparisonbrbrI have an M1 Mac with 16GB I bought in November 2020 And will be looking for an update soonbrMy requirement is for Photo/Video/3D_Graphics (Effects Simulations etc)brbrEarlier I planned to get the Mac Studio M2 Max, but waited thinking M4 Studio might be on the horizonbrSo, should I wait for Mac Studio M4 or its better to get the M4 ProbrI can wait for another 6-8 months if Mac Studio M4 is releasing within the time framebrbrAny suggestions ? Thanks :) Comment from : @cnsapam |
Great video! I’m curious how the new Mac Minis compare to AMD and Intel PCs in Lightroom Classic performance Do you have any mixed Mac and PC benchmarks? Comment from : @conradjalali |
What i would like to know, is can i put the OS on a external drive like i can on my I MAC? As 256 is not enough for meI don,t want to spend £200 extra for the 512 versionI have three Thunderbolt 4 drives Comment from : @timcollins9800 |

I have just begun my videography journey This is incredibly rigorous and helpful analysis Thank you Comment from : @sesomediagroup |

New sub here Great channel Would you be so kind as to answer a few questions I mostly use Final Cut Pro & Photoshop to create videos on my Billy Luna Crime Stories YT channel I am working in 1080p, but plan to start working in 4k Currently I am Using a Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD (2TB & 4TB) to edit off whilst using FCP brbr1) For my needs, which exact configuration of the new M4 Mac Mini should I get? (Pro or no, RAM, SSD) brbr2) Can I get maximum speed via Thunderbolt 4 or 5 using a Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD? brbr3) Is there any speed or performance advantage in going with a 1 TB SSD vs 512? brbr4) I’m now leaning toward an M4 PRO MAC MINI 512 SSD & 64 GB - Is this overkill for running Final Cut Pro, Photoshop and 30 web browser tabs open at the same time?brbrI would really like to save $ by not going with the pricey Apple storage & sticking with the externals Thank you! Comment from : @BillyLuna |
Hey there Are you using the Basic or Standard score for Pugetbench Davinci Resolve in your charts? I'm seeing 7126 overall score (Basic) and 6163 overall score (Standard) on my M1 Max Studio and trying to compare to the M4 Pro Mini results you're getting Thanks!! Comment from : @JesseSmtns |
Only problem with these reviews is that each model has significant memory differences: M2U has 128GB memory against M4P 24GB So how do you decide? Comment from : @michaelpace8680 |

I appreciate your style as well as your thoroughness It's like sitting down and having a normal conversation Comment from : @TRK-up2zw |

Excellent as always!👍 Comment from : @JurajHatina |

Fantastic analysis as always With regard to the M4 Pro would you recommend the extra ram to bring it to 48gb or will the standard 24gb be okay? Many thanks Comment from : @ShayFarrelly |

Advice Needed: Upgrading from 2019 iMac for Professional Color Grading on DaVinci ResolvebrHello everyone,brI’m currently using a 2019 iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch with the following specs for color grading: • Processor: 37 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5br • Graphics: Radeon Pro 580X 8 GBbr • Memory: 64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4br • macOS: Sonoma 1461br • Software: DaVinci Resolve (I do a lot of noise reduction, tracking, stabilization, and heavy work in Fusion)brbrI’m planning to take my color grading work to a professional level soon, and I’m considering an upgrade I’m interested in the new M4 Pro iMac model that Apple released recently My main question is:br 1 Would this new iMac M4 Pro be sufficient for professional-grade color grading work in DaVinci Resolve, especially for tasks like noise reduction and Fusion work?br 2 If so, what configuration should I consider for the new iMac to handle these demands without overstepping my budget?brbrI was also looking at the Mac Studio M2 Ultra, but it’s currently out of my budget I’d prefer to stick with the new iMac if possible, but I need to know if it will deliver reliable performance for these kinds of intensive tasksbrbrI visited an Apple Store recently, but the advice I received there was not very in-depth I’m hoping the community here can provide a more informed perspective on which specs to prioritize for the best performance in DaVinci ResolvebrbrAny recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated—especially from those using DaVinci Resolve for professional work on the M4 Pro!brbrThanks so much! Comment from : @UraFlight |
Wondering what you think of these 2 configurations in comparison: Mac Studio Apple M2 Max Chip with 12‑Core CPU and 38‑Core GPU 64GB unified memory vs Mac Mini Apple M4 Pro chip with 14‑core CPU, 20‑core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine 48GB unified memory Thanks! Comment from : @dnnsha1654 |
One question: an M4 with 32gb of ram, versus an M4 Pro with 24gb of ram brIn general photo/video editing, so without focusing on a specific software Could the performance be quite similar, or would the M4 Pro still have a distinct advantage?brGiven the importance of the ram, I wonder if the gap would be partly bridged Comment from : @nico4477 |
This is my new go to channel, bored of constant clickbait on another certain channel Comment from : @SPDTDL |
If you are just a hobbyist photographer who works with 50MP images in Capture One and occasional 4K video editing, is the base M4 chip with 24GB or 32GB of memory a good enough option? Comment from : @Muldoonite |
I'm on M1 Max Studio and debating getting a fully loaded M4 Pro Mini Wish I could see more comparisons on that Lightroom AI masking is slowing down on my Studio Comment from : @JesseSmtns |
Im coming from intel M4 gonna be enough upgrade for me ☺️ Comment from : @ucevrim |
