While this video offers a good premise, it feels out of touch Scholarships are extremely hard to get because they are so competitive, and jobs for college students (especially ones on campus) pay minimum wage I'm in a bit of an unfortunate circumstance with my college choice because I'm disabled and have to live at home for accommodation reasons The only ones near me were private schools so I had to go to one

I'm terrified of never being able to go I'm over 17 years past high school and tired of not making money Every time I've tried to go, I had to go straight back to work right after one semester because of mounting financial responsibilities or other issues at home requiring more work I've never been able to balance work and school at the same time brbrNow it's the roof that's caving in Literally And a floor that's sunken, and 2 damaged doors, and a messed up back porch, and a leaking kitchen sink that added to all the rest right when I lost my last job And the insurance company that refused to cover anythingbrbrNo idea what to do, feeling so lost like there is no hope at allbrbrIt took 6 months to find a new job, and the one I found doesn't pay much at all

I just did the math and I got paid $35k cash to go to college, not including fully paid-for tuition from pell grant, state grant and scholarships I am going to a city community college that offers a 4-year bachelors program for international accounting Allah is the greatest

After I graduated high school (back in the early 80’s) my dad offered to pay for my college I know he didn’t have the money and it wasn’t his responsibility to do that I joined the Air Force, got my GI Bill which paid for my bachelors BEST decision I ever made! Look into the guard, reserves or active duty

It is possible to attend college without debt My daughter graduated in 2018 from a small private university in Ohio without debt She received numerous scholarships and grants I helped to fund an education IRA and saved money from child support and my income from two jobs The small university was the best bargain for us The large flagship university would have been more expensive and she would have had student loans

I went to California State University Northridge to get a degree in film My parents were smart and were able to pay for 2/3 of it and I was responsible for 1/3 of it I ended high school with about 14 K in the bank and I was able to pay my share I only got one $500 scholarship But the problem has been after school I have been let’s say taken for a ride on a number of different companies And I have yet to make it back that 14 K even though I never took out any loans That was 10 years ago

lol local state schools cost 25-35 I'm in Ohio by the way Took out loans for my daughter(nursing) used the Stafford loan all four years Graduated with 30 grand in debt Her first yeAr after college was 90 grand with OT Now she's going to be a NP 60 grand more in debt but first year will be 130 easily

While I think this can be great advice, I think it is also important to not feel shame if you do have to take out student loans I went to community college for all of my pre-requisites and saved 14k by going that route while paying it all out of pocket But, once I had to start taking nursing classes, I wasn’t able to work full time and also do well with a course load that heavy And, I didn’t have the privilege of being able to live at home during the process Student loans are a tool and there is no shame in needing them Just don’t take them on without weighing the options or not trying to mitigate costs in other ways

This is out of touchbrbrYes one should attend the least expensive school possible, and try and work some while in school -- good advice But even if living at home there are no colleges, even community colleges, that a part time job will pay for in addition to living expenses, books, car, etc brbrScholarships can absolutely help But the reality is that without help from parents, or debt, it isn't possible to get an education in the US just by working at a part time job
