Should we fo this to all penny's though? I was told a long time ago to never try and clean them at all because it's the wear from years and years that makes them valuable except if that wear is smoothing it out, but should we do this to all penny's?? Comment from : @POOTYTANG81 |
Be very careful what you want to clean research and ask a professional first before cleaning if there is a possibility of value you could diminish or destroy its value Comment from : @ericswain4177 |

would this loose value to the coin?? Comment from : @sleazyd12 |
Don't do this with valuable or collectible coins It may look nice to see the original colour again, but it won't be the same as the original machine finish, and it devalues the coin Also, it will eventually tarnish again so you'll have to repeat the process Eventually, the coins detail will be destroyed Comment from : @JasonJason210 |

What a foolish way to destroy any value the penny had Took a nice looking Canadian copper penny and made it look like you scrubbed it with Comet abrasive cleanser Looks nothing like the "Original" luster of an "Uncirculated" pennybrbrI guess if you are illegally taking it to a copper recycler to have it smelted, they may pay you a somewhat higher "Clean copper" price, but you wouldn't get "Bright copper" prices either as it has an unnatural chemically altered appearance Comment from : @williamstrickland4560 |

I failed at this I placed about 20 pennies and 2 dimes in a vinegar and salt solution (much less salt than recommended by this guy) I added a couple drops of soap because there was sticky stuff on a few coins (that the reason the dimes got added) I returned 5 hours later and the pennies were black and pitted Was it the time, the soap, the insufficient salt concentration, or the presence of another metal?
