My child's sped teacher simply makes up her own determination of progress that is not real life For example, my second grader only consistently reads: "the", "I" and "A" Her sped teacher had the audacity to state at her IEP yearly meeting yesterday that she is reading 30-40 words per minute I was dumb founded I asked is it a paper that just says "the" 30-40 times??? She said she is using a curriculum with consistent characters and story lines, using the same words over and over and before they begin reading, they do a "story walk", so they look at the pictures and pre-guess what the passage will say So her "progress" was not based on real life or even close If you give her any age appropriate or even kindergarten appropriate piece of literature, she cannot read it on her own Based on this "improvement", they did not allow my child's pull out time to be increased as everyone had stated to me seemed necessary before So, my question here isif refusing to allow them to give my child testing accommodations is the only way for me to attain proof or an accurate picture of what exactly her real life skill levels are, shouldn't I do that? They totally made extensive accommodations for the state tests including a scribe, talk-to-text and more without even asking me This was the day before Thanksgiving vacation and I feel like our whole holiday is ruined now because the meeting was so completely awful and I'm a momma who's been doing this IEP thing for 20 years already You just don't expect almost everyone to do a complete 180 on you and for the meeting to be run completely improperly Comment from : @mombythec |
