I’ve tried Schoolism They have a bunch of good courses, though at the time their courses were geared more to intermediate and professional artists and not those trying to learn the fundamentals (and I’m very much still working on my fundamentals) I will say schoolism is tied to the Light Box Expo group, and Light Box Expo is an amazing group of artists They have a very friendly discord open to everyonebrbrI’m currently doing the stuff on Artwod (not covered here) and it has pretty good instruction videos, step by step with assignments, very hand holding set of courses and exercises for the fundamentals They also do what they call daily puzzles and workouts, which look to be things that take a little bit of time to polish your skills I’m not the biggest fan of their pricing as I find them a bit aggressive in that area, but I have seen a decent amount of growth since doing their stuff so maybe it’s worthwhile I’m not sure if their non-fundamentals stuff is any goodbrbrI’ve also tried the Marc Burnet’s art school stuff The videos all have good information in them (if you like Marc Burnet) The thing I disliked about it is that it’s more of an information dump and not much on “do these exercises” I think each 2 hour video has only like 2 or 3 assignments Comment from : @vu1641 |

Ive been doing my own research and have been wondering if you have advice for minors pursuing art school? Most of the programs you enlisted have me require 18 years of age or older, i want to headstart my art education and would like advice from someone whos well versed in the field! Thanks I'm learning a great deal from NMA, based on your recommendation I tried a few other things in the past, Community Collge, private lessons, youtube videos, and Art books, and so far NMA is the one that has really brought about change in my Artwork I like the comprehensive curriculumbrbr wwwfacebookcom/SJBreierAuthor/ Comment from : @sjbreier |

Thank you so much for this video I been struggling to find an affordable Art school to go to but my family doesn’t have thousands of dollars to make that happen Which is something I have accepted however my parents are sad because they can’t which hurts me, I never want them to feel this way I wouldn’t have found these resources on my own so thank you so much brSide note: Artist don’t need a bachelors degree to feel like they accomplished something it’s the experience, learning tools, and your talent that lands you a job Not a degree ❤❤ Comment from : @jackier1229 |

Love this video! There's also in a lot of major cities community art classes that meet up weekly! I've been going to the UTSA community art program on the weekends and you're actually taught by the professors at the school for a fraction of a fraction of what it would cost I paid $230 for 8 classes! Is virtual art school really good because I know I'm a visual learner and watching a video and not being in the actual room could mess with me I tried doing community college but dropped out cause I could not keep up with math and the other classes when all I wanted to do was learn art Now I live in South Carolina and I cant find that good of any art schools to go to in person The only thing I see that is art based and taught in online schools Comment from : @Dosezz |
so what if you have to get out of your country with school visa because of problems but you're only interested in art ,what would you do ? oh and you're on a budget Comment from : @tlk8146 |

Hey So are art school or these kind school necessary if i wanna make a living with art? Comment from : @raydden1210 |
It's true At the risk of sounding boastful, I've been a full-time artist since 2012 No commercial work, no commissions, doing exactly what I want the whole way through The first years were very difficult financially but it helped having zero student debt Completely self taught, zero dollars spent on any online courses in the first years Recently I have purchased a video or two and taken a workshop for fun There's just so much out there I think a workshop with an artist you choose is 1,000x better than art school (from what I've heard) because you never know who you're going to get for instructors with a large institution Go right for the info you want Comment from : @stevechmilar1215 |

Stephen silver drawing academy is another good one for cartooning/character design Comment from : @Peter-wl3tm |

do they have homework assignments with each lesson/video at new masters acadamy? i find that i rly need that otherwise it's unclear to me how to actually put the knowledge ive learned into practice and make it into a habit Comment from : @jarno_art |

i just wish there was something that mimics that of a professor standing there expecting something of you, if i self-teach for 10 years before college i get executive dysfunction and standstill Comment from : @bnuuyboy |

b:starts building time machine to stop 18 yo me from entering into a life-time of student loan debt:/bbrAlso, the prices for CGI-based courses may seem expensive but it is actually pretty standard for that market When I went to college the software license alone for 3D Studio Max was $4K and they did NOT offer student discounts at the time Comment from : @JMulvy |

Im salvadorean from El Salvador, a third world country, maybe you have heard about it, in my personal experience learning totally online and by my own, i've researched different ways to learn at the cheapest price not bcuz i hate to pay for my courses, quite the opposite, i think that education is an incredible labor and extremely important its bcuz the minimum wage in my country are 350 USD in my research i've found this website called udemy, and the courses are around 100$ - 150$, but occasionally every single course in the page is at 12$, and i pick them by user reviews to be honest i've learned a lot on those courses and i keep learning today, its definitely a "must try" page Comment from : @miasalinas8043 |

Me side eyeing myself - somehow while it’s not possible to side eye yourself without looking at a mirror- when you said brbr“I watch them on 2x”brbr😅i have to watch majority of videos on 2x otherwise my brain isn’t able to stay hyper fixated and keeps zoning so I have to 2x it to force the focus Comment from : @lisaia7877 |

I've taken CGMA courses before Great quality, good teachers, fun classroom vibes You pay for community, Critique, QA, and class structure There classes are average 700 which is pretty standard for an 8-10 week course equivalent to a semester So 10000 dollars is like 14 classesbrbrId recommend and shout out to the Oatly Academy!!! Comment from : @samsil187 |

I really need to start following your advice! Comment from : @artworkbyrocky |

society of visual storytelling SVS on youtube, Is this a good course to take for when it comes to drawing and painting? Comment from : @wifeybaby4001 |

as an international this sorta doesnt apply entirely to me , maybe on learning the fundamentals only but going to were the industry is ,meeting people who will get into the industry as well as people allready in it is invaluable and you can't really get thet from schoolism Comment from : @churros724 |

You can also check out domestika too, insane value Only downside is that some of the good stuff are in Spanish There are still english courses there just put in the filter and see what works for you :) Comment from : @mightyman0055 |

Don't do art school online (that's what I did at Sheridan College in Ontario, Canada) NOT having 1-on-1guidance is frustrating My student loans are accumulating interest, and I'm not working Your city, province, or country may have mentorship/art exploration grants Hire a grant writer to help you stand out Community colleges are great too , and cheaper Also, have a system and endgame for your art career Comment from : @gildasgallery7861 |
All great choices I can absolutely vouch for NMA, CGMA, Schoolism and suggest Art of Aaron Blaise if you are into 2D animation! brSounds weird, but if you don't mind being far away from home, consider also coming to study in Europe! Some schools are overly expensive in US, with that amount of money you can do programs here in very good schools Comment from : @aronhelios1734 |
Do I understand this correctly, none of these schools don’t give you an actual degree? Comment from : @mashatuman573 |
Europe is not even better; Western art universities are expensive too, and it's unavailable for someone like me who lives in Poland In Poland we have art universities but they primarily teach classic subjects not things like concept art, 3D etc Comment from : @Olga-zv2cc |
Thank you for this, I’m currently in community college and I’m deciding whether to go to art school or use some resources online without going to art school I want to save money and this is perfect Comment from : @KarolineTheEmpath |
I would also suggest seeking out your local arts community It’s amazing the opportunities that are just within a few miles of you I also suggest following a lot of local artists because some may have amazing YouTube channels And lastly, I am a huge advocate of the community college route I also got my arts degree through community college However, the beginning drawing courses I took, looking back were pretty low caliber compared to what I learned later at a classical atelier Comment from : @KristenOckertFineArt |
I'm so happy I found this channel and video I've been working through some intense mental health troubles, and I've been wanting to start drawing to help regulate myself Thank you for these! Comment from : @Steitzness |
I will say that I have been LOVING New Master's Academy I bought my subscription last December when they had a sale -it was half off so i only paid $256 I just hope I can afford to renew my subscription this year brbrI love that they have different paths that you can take with everything already laid out Comment from : @bscott9141 |
Thank you the very informative video! Being rather broke right now, it's nice to see there are still options to learn how to improve at drawing without putting myself in further debt! brbrJust curious, of these options, which one would be best to teach someone how to learn digital art, as in learns the ins and out of drawing software, from the ground up?
