I've been going hard at this for nearly two years, on every platform from Saatchi to having my own website, getting representation at three different galleries, getting wonderful written reviews and tons of compliments, awards, etc But in the end, I have had only two small sales which barely covers the cost of one canvas Marketing on your own is (sorry for my French) F*cking impossible I know artists with social media followings in the hundreds of thousands and even they complain that marketing on your own hardly works at all So although this video may try to be helpful, it is not There is no formula, there is no guarantee, there is no proven way to be successful unless you get lucky or sell nudes I love painting more than life itself, but selling it is an absolute mystery I'm tired of being lectured when none of these 'techniques' work Comment from : @frostbittenarts |
Soooo how do we market our art? What do we actually do??😊😊 Comment from : @RAE-homely-fairy-of-the-light |
After watching this video, I prefer to loathe third party platforms I like galleries, but I like to sell directly to potential clients I need money to finance my art business as well as survive Comment from : @paulorta8621 |
Its a decision of being an artist or salesman Getting traffic and trying to reach more clients are harder than making arts and boring Sales requires efforts and effort is rewarded In that point reward is etsy commisions I do both for 2 years and still etsy make sales more than myself Only if you have great social media network on instagram or facebook or youtube Yes you are right, self selling is better Comment from : @plans_for_woodworkers |
100 of zero is zero On top of that, instead of an artist you become a business, admin, sales and marketing person Burnout is just around the corner if you're built to be an artist, not all that Comment from : @karuzelastudio7858 |
Millions thanks ❤ Comment from : @hodajrab9428 |

I notice that some really good representational art artists focus on their branding more than their product They market through all the platforms and also offer workshops , instructional videos and merch They sell their art via traditional venues as well from their web site and other platforms For them , it is a business first The artists that l like have always attracted me with their art but my long term interest with their branding As an artist myself l have purchased some streaming , process ,instructional videos which have been beneficial to my growth Although they are great artists l would hazard to guess that they generate more income in branding as opposed to painting sales Comment from : @paulschuurmans |
This is a bit misleading You never get to keep 100 of your profits as you may have to pay a subscription fee for the platform you're using for your website, annual domain costs, payment provider fees, and tax Comment from : @Flux_One |
I have been selling my works on Ebay for 15 years and things have not gone bad In fact I have a power seller and in the Cuban art category I am the one that has sold the most and I continue to sell I have gotten used to this platform and now everyone knows me through it, I also have my page on Wix, but I sell more on Ebay It is my only source of income It's a matter of perseverance and dedication that creates your brand Since they know me from Ebay, they also search for me on Google and find my personal art page I believe that platforms that have a lot of traffic help artists unintentionally create traffic towards their personal niche Comment from : @michelblazquez |
What about a nomadic digital artists selling ink jet prints?since a website must be hooked into printshop ,framer, and delivery! Comment from : @user-wo4og7tf3e |

I downloaded your steps to sell your art online thank you Its ok but platforms like Facebook and Instagram can just shut you down with no explanation I've had accounts shut down and you can't talk to anyone from Facebook or Instagram to find out why It kind of puts me off as these platforms have full control of your social media accounts and just so what they like I just had my art page on Facebook shut down with nearly 1k members No explanation, no way to appeal! Comment from : @angelart1444 |
Thanks maam Comment from : @NnaemekaAmamasi |
Most ecommerce businesses will do both - direct sales for higher margins, affiliates/partners/marketplaces for the benefit of existing high traffic and sales volume Most artists will simply not have the time to do all the things required to build a long-term high traffic brand Comment from : @TheFatPaddler |
That's not a solid perspective! Starting on platforms like Etsy, Saatchi, or even through art galleries can indeed be a strategic move for new artists These platforms provide valuable exposure and can help build an initial audience THE KEY IS TO USE THESE PLATFOMRS AS A STEPPING STONE They can help you get your work out there, gather feedback, and make initial sales As you grow and gain recognition, you’ll likely find that direct connections and personal branding become more viable I am sorry if I am wrong Comment from : @Saqibalisyd |
One sentence would have sufficed Comment from : @deborahgonzalezknight168 |

That´s exactly what happened to me on Saatchi: the have set all of my artworks to "not for sale" from one second to another, just because I was not logging in on the platform for some time Comment from : @arthvr-arts |
I spent a little time in Banking in the US The second worst business startup is a restaurant The absolute worst business startup is a for profit art gallery You should also be aware that, in Europe, secondary sales do generate some additional income for the artists Comment from : @lightbox617 |

Great videos Comment from : @RichCelenza |
I am a graphic designer and I like to create digital art I think that using platforms like Etsy has to be another sales channel, not the only one It is always necessary to have your own sales space, your own online store, your Instagram account, your own gallery, different channels that provide you with a constant flow of customers It is important to know how to sell yourself as a person because that is key to selling your art Comment from : @maurobertolino664 |
you forgot to say that Etsy will give you little to no traffic anywyway if you're not an estabilished seller :)brSo you'll have to spend money in ads even if you sell on Etsy Comment from : @rotschimmel |
so in this video there are many reasons why not to sell art with the platforms, but any real advice how to sell by yourself, just an advertisement of a course😆 sorry, wasted time Comment from : @meowowcreates |

It is ridiculous - real artists are fragile, sensitive people, selling anything would be a huge problem for them, you are talking about craftsmen probably! Comment from : @Zafiriona |
Traffic traffic traffic No traffic no sales Comment from : @martingray8350 |

they say making living doing art is 50 art and 50 business This is extremely mistaken Art is 90 business and 10 skill in Art You can create quality on par with Monet and Sargent, but since you don't have the name/reputation, It means nothing except to the 2 of population that can somewhat feel/recognize it and 001 that can truly value it Stereotypes of starving artist exists even today when exposure is 1000x easier than before, is because money and economies functions on business principles naturallyperiod brGood marketers with poor skill in art will out earn the best artist with poor skill in business any day of the week You want to create your passion work? do it, make it into content and get followers, viable strategy, but still a lot of marketing/social media/business accruement needed You want to quickly sell something? You create what the market want, not what you want This is the subjective real world, unless you already nurtured A lot fans, buyers don't care what you think, it's all about what they think And what they think and how they value are much more easily influenced by marketing strategies and packaging, relative principle, contrast principle etc I dunno why ppl still need this spelt out for them when there are black squares and banana taped to wall and pixel by pixel transferred image that a high schooler can do, all selling for obscene amount of $$$ than your 20 year trained traditional fine art that you had to draw 1000 live anatomy sessions to learn Marketing and Packaging people -_- Comment from : @TPACasual |
