Another tip is 2 try to learn an specific accent For example, I speak Spanish and there's a lot of accents Each country has at least 2 big ones, and a lot of smaller ones When you're learning Spanish, you're commonly gonna learn the stereotypical Spaniard or Mexican accents Reccomend u 2 check which version your resources are teaching u and stick to one brOr you're gonna end up like me, who learned English by watching Youtube and my fav shows, reading Harry Potter fanfiction and chating with AIs and scene ppl nd now I have a frankenstein language of something between an influencer american accent, british vocabulary and internet slang and I'm gonna win a Nobel prize before understanding an Aussie or a British But at least I can shock my monolingual classmates with my language knowledge

As a brazillian i can say that portuguese is not that easy, the portuguese language deserves to be at least on level three(in my opinion)because in english the words don't really have a lot o changes, in all the sentences the words still the same, but in portuguese almost all the words and verbs change, so for a english speaker learn portuguese is not that easy, because you will have to remember a lot of New words that sometimes means the same thing

Btw, yes Duolingo can work, but only in a certain way Duolingo has very few exposure to the language so if you use other types of learning languages (watching videos, using another language app, etc) you can be comfortable speaking in a language, but it depends on which language you learn if you will be fluent
