Honestly the tomatoes can be a one time thing! If you take some of your tomatoes and re plant them or clean up and save the seeds theyll grow back pretty well! My house gets tomato plants every year cause the tomatoes that fall off tend to re grow in the spring so save your seeds! [Save a good amount of them, like a handful of cherry tomatos]

I love growing ginger, but if you live in a colder climate you'll either have to keep your ginger warm and safe inside (which could mean getting a whole plant light set up going on) since it's a warm-climate plant or accept that it'll die in the winter and you'll have to replant but replanting is easy when you get a ginger root the size of your arm brbras for the onion - yeah you'll see those plants all over because there's a lot of wild alliums (onions are in the allium family) but be careful if you see that in the wild because some alliums aren't safe to eat if you're gonna go messing with wild plants you see outside, make sure to watch Alexis Nicole (black forager) to learn more about how to identify what's safe to eat and what isn't (dandelions make amazing fritters y'all!)

Tomato plant in a 5 gallon bucket will absolutely work! And for added productivity add some pvc pipe elbows to the sides and grow smaller plants too You will have to replant every year but its worth it

For the tomatoes, since it's in a bucket you can bring it inside and keep it alive to take back outside the next year You'll typically need to prune it down and keep it on a warmer while accounting for the necessary light it needs Warmers and a cheap garden light are easy to find tho Im doing this with my pepper plants currently lol

Listen, I highly suggest that anyone in a home, apartment, or communal living space start growing food Even if it's small at first, that's a good step in the right direction! I know it can be time consuming, and it requires patience but the act of gardening teaches you that patience! I've been gardening for over 12 years, and I can really see that if everyone grew just a small amount together communally, we would probably be in a much better climate with our food and finances Now it's just up to what our priorities are, making/executing a plan, and remembering to have fun learning about one of the most ancient skills the earth was equipped to do GROW! brbrAlso, side tangent: beans are the holy grail poor/struggle plant I don't make the rules lol Everyone can grow a bean!

And the big one: UTILIZE FLOUR and learn how to bake You can make most of your own snacks (healthier) and you can make your own bread, those two things run out faster than the other groceries which is a good chunk of the bill in a month A bulk bag of flour is relatively cheap and will last a long while You can also make other snacks like fruit rolls ups and gummies with just a couple ingredients and its a way healthier version!
