I like investing in close-end funds that pay monthly dividends The trick is to hold long term and reinvest the monthly dividends plus buy more shares on a monthly basis or when ever you can afford to This can be easily done because close-end funds are bought and sold on the stock market just like regular stock That’d be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between $50k to $70k in dividend income

So I know this is the classic 3 fund account, but rather than the total US Stock market, might it be better to invest in the Russell 2000? This is because the total US Stock Market and S&P 500 have a lot of overlap, with the majority of both being the 12 or so largest companies So investing in something like the Russell 2000 that takes away the Microsoft and Amazon etc helps ensure that you're actually diversified and not so tied down to how well the largest companies do

Fidelity International Index has been yielding relatively low return at around 4 for the past 10 years I would stay away from this one unless you think all of sudden this will bounce back up going forward which I am not betting my money on Choose other ones with better track record - at least 7 or higher
