The reason why the VOC was established, was because the Republic's war for independence was funded by tax income from trade And the intense rivalry between all the different Dutch trading companies drove up buying prices and drove down selling prices Thus reducing profits, and lowering war chest contributions The Dutch government solved this problem by combining all the different trading companies into one big trading company Hence the name: UNITED Easy India Company (Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie)
