Something to consider is the changing definition of “paycheck to paycheck” brbrIt used to mean that you could barely afford the essentials Food wasn’t guaranteed Had to pick a few days a month to go without electricity Etc I did this voluntarily for a while because I wasn’t saving as much as I wanted when I finished college and school loans were nasty brbrBut now it means that you can only go out 4 times a week with friends Or that you can’t get the latest DLC for a game you play brbrIt’s just fundamentally a different experience

I’m in the south and while I do agree times are tough I simply cannot accept that almost 250k per household is comfortable I make almost 1/4 of that and manage to live comfortably The problem is definitely there, and money is tight… but you can make it work I think a lot of my peers in gen Z WANT to over spend and not manage their finances Their definition of comfortable is “I can get everything I want” No way it’s even close to 200k Even Making 80-90k is very very good money to live on, and if you can’t manage to cover your bills AND have spending money left over on that income, you’re excessively spending to a ridiculous degree

Tennessee, like Texas and Florida, has no income tax at the state level and is very conservative economically So they offer more than just that to people in higher tax brackets Point being, I grew up in Nashville and the same is true here Referring to the housing market in Nashville now They’ve legit turned most of the projects downtown into high rises and condos, so the folks from the projects have gotten pushed outside Nashville and into what were little farming communities when I was born, back in the 90s Hah It’s next to impossible for someone that grew up here to buy a house in the middle Tennessee area anymore The only reason I’m still here is because I was lucky enough to inherit a home It’s not the same city at all man, hah And most of it’s not a good change Tons of rich folks from LA and New York buying up all the property and pricing us out, just to try and change the city into a place they hated so much they left… What sense does that make???
