I tried going to a dealer yesterday, was told my 2022 Ford Escape PHEV was too upside down (neg 25k) to trade in unless I bought an electric car Funny thing is I never had negative equity when I bought it, just the Ford dropped in value that drastically is rediculous Never buying one again

I feel like this is misleading Down payments benefit you as well Especially in this high interest rate inflated economy If you can get a lower interest rate by doing a down payment thus lowering the monthly payment that the rate is based off anyways

Get your own financing Lock all 3 of your credit reports and walk away if they keep playing games I never put anything down (not even the taxes) and never had a problem buying a car using my own financing except for when all dealers went on a power trip when there was a shortage Just waited it out and when I saw a Venza hybrid sit on a lot for 60 days and the asking price went from $40k to $27k I jumped because they were desperate to unload it 2 years old and 15k miles on it with all of the Toyota warranty
