I first discovered Obie in the early 1990s - I'd just been on my second exetended visit to Soth Africa and a read a copy of Getaway magazine that mentioned this guy who was doing a Cape to Cairo photgtaphic trip I later saw a write up of the resulting book, Beyond Bagamoyo, with a couple of images and I had to have it By hook and crook I've since filled in the earler books and all the subsequent ones - and I totally agree - he gave me a love for deiving the South African backroads and for seeing the quirky and unusual and photographing for pleasure not for art As a result, he's chronicled an extraordinary country through some extraordinary times with many memorable images (and tales) - as well as increasingly travelling the world A good editor could come up with a remarkable set of retrospective images one day, but for the moment, the excitement is in what comes next Comment from : @grahamhobbs3501 |

Love this channel! brI'm so bored with everything around me and yet I live in the west coast of Ireland and it really is a highly photogenic area For me it just has to be novel, if I'm not traveling to new locations I just can't find the motivation I have so much respect for photographers that can walk out their front door and capture amazing shots of concrete buildings and bland streets by finding the perfect angle or combination of light and darkbrKeep up the great and thought provoking Content Comment from : @johnrodgers2018 |

Wow its refreshing to hear somebody talk about photography in this way, you are absolutely right sir, people get far too hung up on rules and perfection, I've found your channel because I heard an interview with you on The Candid Frame podcast and was inspired by your approach to the subject, I've listened to many photographers talking and many are far too serious and hung up on perfection, you have given me a whole new way of looking at my passion for photography, thank you sir, I have subscribed and liked! South Africa is infectious, just like Obie South Africa is a photographer's dream, just like Obie I make a point of engaging with my fellow South Africans through the lens, I never produce technical marvels but I do produce magnificent memories for myself Comment from : @GavinThomas-pix |
