Today I bought 108 of these coins in a pawn shop here in Germany in Karlsruhe for 1950€ which is the same as $2128 so that's 1805€ each which is the same as 1970$ each, I think that's a good price Because on eBay this coin costs €19-23 each, he had more than 150 of them but I picked out the ones in the best condition, the rest had scratches

My first experience of the Maria Theresa thaler was at an American mountain man rendezvous Turtle explained it too me that when European traders went sailed to Africa, with newly minted thalers, the locals did want to accept them because they thought they were countafiet because the date had been changed So, the Austrians continued to mint them with the original date I still continue to carry one in my "possible pouch" after oxidizing it with water and blackpowder, so that if I need something for a blanket shoot, I can thow it down as a trade item and will probably get it back after the shoot ;) The competitors think it is a cheap reproduction of a historical coin

I have 11 of these and they are a beautiful coin to hold and very tactile It would have to be one of my favorite silver coins to own One way to distinguish the restrike is to look at the reverse and if it has the inscription "AVST" it's a restrike as the original coins have "AUST" There are a lot of people on eBay using misleading descriptions describing them as "original" and "rare" 1780's coins and wanting ridiculous amounts for them Just a quick looks now shows someone wanting AU$600 (I live in Australia) for a restrike, conveniently forgetting to disclose that bit of information Hopefully your video will help some people avoid getting tricked if they want to buy one
