I was a child when the LA riots were national news I didn't understand why people were rioting I understood that they were rioting because an unarmed black man prone on the ground with his arms already out was being beaten by white police officers I thought, "but that happens everyday? Why are they rioting now?" I didn't understand until later that the officers had a trial and the riots were in response to the verdict
