I’ve been considering getting an eKit for a while now Something that I can use in conjunction with EZ Drummer 3 Been leaning toward the surge mesh kit, but I wish it had a bell zone on the ride Comment from : Eric Merrow |
I got lucky 1 yr ago I bought a strike pro (not SE) used The owner had it for 2 plus yrs and home use only Got it for $1500 including all DW hardware (2000 double petal, 3000 hat stand and snare stand)Only issue was one of the three crash pads had triggering issues which I was able to almost fix completely with settings of sensitivity Love the look and functionality of this kit Lots of chrome and an intuitive module which I think is the strongest point of the set overall Same module w/ the SE variation Other e kits I have played I hated due to small size This one looks and plays like a full sized drumset I get compliments on how it looks Alesis has me hooked I would never purchase any other brand after seeing numerous vids (thanks Justin) and comparing prices and functionality I do believe you short changed the module in this vid and did not mention some of its best aspects but I love your vids and of course have subscribed Comment from : Jim Krieger |

I alresdy have a strike Mulitpad I got for my old drummer to trigger lops from, now I want to buy myself an EDRUM kit (alesis ) and want to use the strike pad with triggers, could I do this with the Nitro Mesh ? help please, I cant find answers anywhere and Im a guitarist Comment from : JohnnyBananas |
I bought the Surge SE and got lucky to score a clearance sale on the nitro expansion pack for $60 The mounting hardware for the expansion pack doesn’t fit on the Surge drum rack, but luckily I had some spare parts from a Gibraltar rack that saved the day It’s a fantastic kit and now running EZ Drummer with it makes it one hell of a rig!brbrThe only major issue I have run into is when I open EZ Drummer in Ableton Live11, the choke groups on the cymbals no longer work 😢 Comment from : CTLProduction |
you can map the kick drum to the hi hat pedal for double bass Comment from : Quatro Boom |
good think you mentioned Nitro Mesh is not good for metal I was almost about to buy that Comment from : Denden |
what strings are you using Comment from : vaynonet |
Im on the cusp of investing in the Strike Pro SE but given the orginal Strike Pro was released in 2017 and the SE was released in 2020, i feel like i might be purchasing right before they annouce a successor Meaning i either end up buying just before the product gets discounted or will have severe buyers remorse if they release something that blows their exist flagship away brbrShould i just take the plunge or maybe wait it out a little longer Comment from : Matthew Blanch |
For the nitro mesh if you want double kick and don’t really care if you spend a lot you could replace the kick drum with a different one, I replaced mine with a Simmons kick drum Comment from : Random_user |

Turbo buyer reporting in: My clever idea was to use software sounds and ignore the module Alesis outsmarted me by making the closed hi hat sound broken The midi sent is wrong, always producing an open hi hat sound Also, software sounds are about $100 each Ouch I occasionally regret not having rim clicks (but i can hear hitting-the-plastic thru headphones/speakers anyway) and cymbal chokesbrbrBut my plan was mostly right: I wanted to spend 100s of hours learning drumming (before I outgrow it, if ever); I dont care about imitating accoustic's size and feel; and a "real" feeling kick and hihat wont be found for 5x the price anywaybrbrbr[1] The hihat can be made to work by in mainstage/logic (macos only) with the v-drum mapping in drum kit designer Or the midi can be rewritten with an obscure midipipe (macos only) script found on reddit The crimson 2 is also broken in it's own way, btw Comment from : Jason J Ayala P |
Can you expand the Strike Pro? Like if you wanted a 5th tom or a 4th crash? Comment from : rockerseven |
When you say the Crimson 2 SE isnt the best kick drum will it still take a double kick pedal since i play quite A bit of metal but cant afford the higher priced kits Comment from : Gamer Girl212 |
Is it just me or did that command sound way better than the surge? That is worth $250 Comment from : Jack Dupp |
what alesis would you recomemmnd for double bass players which is under 1000? Comment from : GDUBMX |
We bought a Turbo Mesh on clearance for rehearsal One of the pedals is broken and we don't even have 20 hours of playing on it At what step do we get pedals worth having Comment from : Jimmy Mundane |
I have an Alesis DM6 USB Kit, it's a very much budget kit, the kit is not bad but my only problem is it's cymbal don't support choke, can I change the preset cymbals and plug into the same module so to support "choking"? If can, maybe i will spent on cymbals seperately rather than buying a new set Comment from : boychan maibam |
I have the Alesis Crimson II my only real complaint at this time is the hi-hat trigger is less than adequateI mean to say its an absolute show stopper Try to upgrade or find replacement parts for all these electric drumslol They are like cell phones or a laptopall garbage 2 years after you purchase Comment from : Coders Expo |
For $1000 Roland smokes all these I can't see how someone would waist money on any of these Comment from : dcthegreatest24 |
I personally wouldn't recommend the nitro mesh kit because the snare mounting system broke within a year Comment from : pratinav |
My question is are parts interchangeable if I wanted to piece together a set Buying everything separately would it be possible/worth it Comment from : 24isthebestracecar |
i have an old alesis dm10 from 2010 I like it pretty much because i don't play often and i find the hardware pretty decent for what i paid I was wondering if i can upgrade the drum module since the hardware is all trs plugs (no special proprietary plugs) But, i might not be worth it and i might should invest in a newer better e-drum Comment from : The MudRunner |
Can u get deferent pedal s for the total get more toms Comment from : Richie And Stormy Cale |
If you had to pick any E kit close to $1k but staying under $1k what would you pick? Comment from : john holena |
Does anyone know if the command supports with duel or 3 zone cymbals? I know the surge and lower won't Comment from : Kyle LaManna |
I just got a Surge SE kit last week and I love it! Thanks for the interesting video Comment from : Sternodox |
Oh, they no longer make the Crimson's either, discontinued Seems a bit like a terrible move by Alesis to keep the Command and scrap the Crimson kits Comment from : Drampa Dreg |
Thank you bro, Im buyig an electronic this weekend and youre helping so damn much Comment from : DannyEye |
which one do you recommend to play in Church? Comment from : seewon Choi |
just fyi 6 inches across is a cd your kid is already too big for the first kit unless hes a 1 month old baby that cant hold the stick yet Comment from : NormanNC NJP |
I have the Alesis Nitro red expanded version The only thing I wanted to add is that the extra Tom on that kit does have the dual zone tech, so you can make the side a ride bell (as I like to do, or whatever sound you want) I hook mine to a 2020 8 gb MacBook Pro (INTEL mind you) and works great with the drum samples from Toontrack - which is very easy just using a usb-b cable (cables for some Keyboards and printers, etc) - I don’t even use the module for it’s programmed drums; as there is a whole universe of samples and sounds you can get that you can just add to your pads For the exact reason you stated; I actually had to get rid of the 6” bass drum head/tower and get a Simmons 8” bass tower, thereby making double bass playing wonderful (just make sure to add a double bass protection patch on the tower head to not cause friction to destroy the drumhead) The other issue is that I had problems with the plastic drum mounting kit, and tightening bolts would strip and break, so I had to end up keeping the drum set upright by using computer cables, 2 camera tripods, and a double step stool I’m flexible, but it was a pain in the ass always fixing it before my last solution I love this thing, but I would recommend a computer you can hook it to for the finest drum samples Toontrack makes it easy and maps most Edrum sets automatically based on the model Or whatever software tickles your fancy Comment from : Donuts |
Wrong abt the Alesis E-Drum Total they were bigger than you said Comment from : Furzi |
i didnt see mine Comment from : superpuppymann |
Can you add a kick drum tower to the second kit featured Comment from : dana shorts |
expanded Comment from : Rami J Playz |
I have the nitro, its amazing Comment from : Rami J Playz |
One of my fav things about edrums is the "play along" songs Excellent practice tool thats fun It seems the alesis has tons more of them in their modules than the others I'm not sure of thats enough for me to decide on an alesis kit(nitro, surge,or command) I have an old roland td 06 which is a great mid tier kit Should I even bother "upgrading" if I'm not spending $1200? Comment from : EricZRed |
Got my kid the surge mesh for Christmas I think it’ll be a perfect first kit Comment from : Ari Shojaiee |
it seems the Command vs Surge is more significant than you give credit for dual zone snare is big, sample import capability is big too; I mean dual zone on snare is critical why do you even need dual zone on toms? is it true that Surge mesh has only dual zone on toms and not snare?great video Comment from : Paul Michaels |
Ive heard alesis kits have a significant delay between the hit and the sound output Is this still true? Comment from : python27au |
What does the DM10 Mark2 compare to these days?brbr does this old DM10mkii compete with a Yamaha DTX502 for instance? Comment from : BeesWaxMinder |
thank you for this video!! i was thinking of buying either the nitro or the surge mesh and was wondering which headphones would be the best? is being wired necessary? Comment from : cici |
just bought the surge cant wait to try it out Comment from : Juice Box |
I just checked, in Canada there is a Crimson II SE still available, but CAD is $1399, add 13 tax to that Not cheap But I hate Roland sounds, seriously hate them The rest are too pricey too, but cheap Chinese kits are getting better I'll wait The DM 10 would be great, but it's more like $1700 here Even if I use outboard sounds, it's too much Nice pads though, good size too Or since I'm old, maybe I'll die first Comment from : Drampa Dreg |
At what point do you finally get a ride bell?brHa $1900 and you can finally get a real hi hat Comment from : Corey W |
I absolutely love my alesis mesh kit It was affordable, super user friendly for looping/effects/recording, great recoilmy only issue was that every drum is 8"- If they just did two 8" and two 10", it might feel better, but it's a really small complaint, and the smaller heads can help build muscle memory to hit a smaller target I would recommend buying your own kick pedal- it works, but it's clunky and awkward at times The tower doesn't stay in place on mine so I ended up using counter weights to keep it in place and it works I also wish they picked up ghost notes better But all that being said I still absolutely love mine Especially for practicing with bitchy neighors Comment from : Prison Mike |
Surge mesh is nice Comment from : k3digichaos |
I bought a used nitro mesh It gets used Thats all I can say Comment from : Joe Nagy |
I came back after 2 years Comment from : Moto Drummer |

What happened to the Alesis strike module? It appears to be discontinued Comment from : Hose Noggin |
Great overview, thank you Comment from : Tibor Feher |
I use Roland drum TD-27KV Comment from : Wilsonplayz |
If you bash the snare a lot like me, don’t buy any of the lower value kits/avoid Alesis My snare trigger broke after 3-4 months of use and it’s been 30 days since I took it to the repair shop and haven’t gotten it back yet Comment from : Matthew G |
It's a shame Due to the inept Biden administration this $37900 Nitro drum kit is now $44900 SMFH Comment from : Oh He Got Jokes |
I have an Alesis Surge mesh Comment from : RR TWINS -official |
I got the Mesh SE as my first-ever drum kit and my only real gripe with it is, as you mentioned, it's a bit short (like you, I'm a taller guy) I think it will be fairly simple, though to put some risers under each leg, so I'll see how that goes I don't have a frame of reference on the snare size since this is all I've ever played, but hopefully it will just make an eventual 10" snare seem HUUUUUUUGE! Comment from : Ric Crouch |
where is the DMLite? Comment from : LemtexGD |
I guess maybe it could be argued that it's a preference but one thing these kits fail to address is that you want your snare higher than your knees, sitting at a point where your thighs slope downward so your feet aren't slammed into the floor I would only recommend the nitro for kids It's what they have where I teach and I had to switch rooms because I am 6'1" and I just can't play it without crashing into my thighs Comment from : malamute |
I have a Alesis Strike Pro I need the spring with the black piece on the end that goes on the hat rod that keeps the 2 cymbal pads apart Because we don't have one,we get a lot of double and irratic triggering Any ideas? Thanks! Comment from : Rick Starnes |
I already tried the alesis but I am trying millenium mps 860 excellent and better cost Comment from : Humberto Urbina |
Interesting comment in regards to complaints about the ride on the Strike SE The bell triggers better than the TD 17 Comment from : Bob Van |
I recommend the surge mesh, i was hesitant about buying an e kit but I love it It has pretty much all of the tones/sounds I desire and the kit itself feels sturdy- even though I play harder than I should brbrZero issues and I have had this kit for almost a year I thought I was “settling” for a lesser kit, but I was wrong This thing is great Comment from : TSYDNYK |
It’s sounds like a toy Comment from : Moby Whale |
So I have the crimson 2 se it’s… meh I would recommend the Roland or efnote over these It’s just ok Comment from : No one in particular |
Just got a used Alesis Command - X for $400 Thanks for all your help! Comment from : Spencer Shipley |
i have a question, see we are in the same price range which would be a better choice between this and EF NOTE 5 ? the last one is more compact and looks amazing, even the sound to my hears seems a bit more natural, any hints? Comment from : gianluigi dautilia |
I have the surge mesh as a beginner drummer I love it! 😁 Comment from : Merian_D |
for all Alesis lines the triggers begin to fail after 6 months Comment from : James Barron |
I just bought the Nitro Mesh Kit and Its my first time playing drums I wasnt a fan of its module so I used a free VTS MT Power Drum Kit and changed some of its tune which is pretty neat I kinda having some downsides with the high hat tho Comment from : In10s |
How hard is it to learn to play drums just good enough? I'm a guitar player with original songs, and I want to mix in drums Finding a person is too expensive and too complicated to find the right style Comment from : Leon Glassglow |
I feel like the attraction to these drum sets, although definitely suitable after a certain investment, just can't match the sounds I had on the Roland TD17 KVX set Honestly that was the third electronic set I ever bought, and it's like the Mercedes of mid-tier electronic drum sets brbrBecause of that, I think I'd be too nervous to go to Alesis Comment from : Martin Sleight |
Do these sets have the open/close hi-hat thing? (Think War Pigs, or Whole Lotta Love) None of the reviews I've watched mention this feature, so I don't know if it's just a default Comment from : goatboy150 |
I have an old DM6 but have come across a turbo mesh for not a lot of cash, would i be able to use the dm6 kickdrum with the turbo? Comment from : Andra Cooper |
Brand new Alesis strike pro se or used Roland TD-20? Comment from : AnthonyE30 |
You forgot to mention DM10 XThey are great for this moneyabout 1000$ Comment from : MegaManson |
Damn dude, I was in the market for an upgrade I really love Alesis, my first electronic drum kit was a version of the turbo mesh from about 8 years ago It lasted me a while but now it has broken down recently I am in the market for an upgrade and I think I'm going to settle with the nitro mesh expanded I'm into extreme metal but I have the 8 inch kick drum upgrade already so I'm not worried Amazing video by the way!!! Comment from : Intergalactic Radio Show: The Black Cairn Nova |
Do gear4music Comment from : Joseph Mansfield |
So funny story my dad and I are both heavy footed so I’m about 3 or 4 mounts of having the nitro mesh tower I hit it so hard I snapped it in half Comment from : jesse buchanan |
Hello, thank you for these videos Can these kits be upgraded with higher end equipment If I have the Surge and want to replace the kick tower with the one from, say the DM10MKII line Would it be compatible and still play & sound like the kicker is intended too? Or add Cymbals & toms from the manufacture or are they universal Thank you again, great video!! Comment from : Slamtana |
Hey Justin I converted a Ludwig backbeat drum set into electric with an Alesis nitro mesh and I used the Alesis triggers to save money! But do you think I did the right thing? Comment from : ProdPlanet |
I have the Alesis turbo mesh kit and the only problem I have with it is that I can’t choke any of the cymbals Other than that, I love it! Comment from : Dan Callagher |
Still loving my crimson 2 se all white mesh with an added snare/tom I use as a second floor tom just fits on the rack,brCoupled with superior drummer 3 it’s perfect for my needs in the studio but yes the kick is small although I can run a double kick but it’s tight Comment from : Furryz |
you miss the Strike Multipad, Comment from : mefrnet perron |
I see that Crimson II SE is off the Alesis website- I guess also discontinued! Any news on its replacement Weird the the DM10 still remains… Comment from : Saxon1973 |
Found this video too late Bought an Alesys E total, and now I regret it Kind of a toy Do yo know if I can upgrade the pedals? Comment from : carlos gil |
I was planning to buy the Command because of the upgraded module I really wanted to upgrade the Crimson II SE, but it was $1,100 plus a amp Luckily the Crimson went on sale for 4th of July so I took the advantage and bought it for $899 The final price still ended up over $1,000 with the amp, kick pedal, and the coverages and warranty thank you for helping me choose and make up my mind :) Comment from : David Fernandez |
How are your sounds so good? I just got the nitro and the sounds are awful Comment from : Roflcopter420 |

I have never had a hi hat issue with my Strike Pro SE Comment from : Jules Place |
