Let’s all consider: there is a big push currently going on to make private ownership and sale of ancient coins restricted and even illegal World governments and misquided officials and also archaeologists are promoting the concept that ownership of such items as coins is depriving the state and its citizens of their cultural assets We need to realize that private individuals and entities have done far more to educate and conserve these treasures than any institution could ever do Since when has government taught you much?

Caesar may have been the first person to be depicted on Roman coins but he was definitely not the first person in history to be depicted on any coin Darius I already had himself depicted on coinage in the late 6th century BCE and the Macedonian and Hellenistic kings and queens also had their portraits put on their coins long before Caesar was born

In Ottoman empire, when a new sultan took the throne He donated his Janissaries (professional army ) a sum of money which is called "cülus" This is almost identical to donativum practice in Roman Empire and probably was descended from it
