Im considering getting into ancient coin collecting Thinking roman atm but in no hurry to make a decision; wanna learn more firstbrbrMy "issue" atm is the cheaper end of market are just not pretty enough to bother with I want to be able to see the design / legend clearly and prefer silver brbrI've browsed through a couple of online sites for coins and the 1s that catch my eye seem to be in the $200 plus range I dont have a lot of disposable income and getting a collection would be a slow process on my budget , which makes me wonder is it worth starting down that rdbrbrIm not looking at it as an investment per se, more about the beauty of the coins and their agebrbrbrI'm not really sure what im askingbrSome feedback i sposebr Is there a particular region/ era of coins that would fit my critera at a lower price? brbrI'll point out , so far ive only seen the coins online , looking at the real thing , feeling its weight etc might overcome the "its not pretty enough " thingbrbrP s No 9 of this vid is very cool Comment from : @Fred-rg5vw |

I didn't buy a lot of coins in 2022, but I did manage to get my first orichalcum sestertius and it happens to be of one of my favorite emperors, Marcus Aurelius, so that was a nice way to kill two birds with one stone! It's a nice thick coin that weighs about 26 grams and even though it's weathered and has a gF grade (which helped make this denomination more affordable for me) it still has this lovely portrait of Marcus which caught my eye and am happy to have in my collection Comment from : @colbystearns5238 |

My best coin this year was nothing visually special but was very special to me, I had bought a lot of some old coins for cheap and just needed some cleaning, just bronze and copper By best friend from college i haven;t seen in 6 years is Greek and her family comes straight from Greece, back story done; I was cleaning them and chatting with my greek friend as she is going through her PhD up in Philly and was having surgery, i said once I get a good one I would clean it for her and mail it because she loves history and science just as much as I do I ended up taking two months to clean this coin for her as a gift, I had said it was Roman era and she was still stoked, come to find out the coin was made about 40-60AD and was minted in Phillipi, turns out her family can trace back to biblical times living and originating right oustide Phillippi and her dad was born right outside, very serendipidous and meant to be Kind of cool holding a coin in your hand that mightve been a few miles away from St Paul or even handle by an apostle Comment from : @chixdighueyz |

If someone has time, I have a couple of questions about my only Roman coin that I got some years ago It is a coin of Diocletian, apparently an antoninianus, so not very valuable, but it is in a pretty nice shape, with some silvering still visible The obverse features a well preserved bust of Diocletian facing right and wearing a radiate crown The text reads IMP CC VAL DIOCLETIANVS PF AUG I know the meaning of most of that, and pretty sure that VAL means Valerius, but the double C I'm not sure about at all I figured that one C must mean CAESAR, but what about the other one? brThe reverse features Diocletian receiving Victoria from Jupiter and reads CONCORDIA MILITVM It also has the usual XXI and also the letter H I tried to see what this H means, and according to some website it might mean that it was minted in Heraclea Is this correct? The info I got when receiving it read "Antioch mint, RIC V 322" Comment from : @2300DY |
