That's my biggest tip for people, play what you love first and enjoy it Theory makes it make sense on a technical level but feel comfortable playing it first Theory is like learning a language's rules and structure, playing it is like speaking the language You can study it all you want but if you don't speak it you won't pick up on the nuance like accent or slang Don't feel like you need to learn theory first to be good, but both are important

Learning theory kickstarted my learning way better I knew a little from when I was young I could read notes, but I was always so shit at memorizing chords Now I don’t have to, I’m still slow, but improving and I know how to find a chord no problem if I don’t know it immediately

I wasted 20 years trying to Wing it , I knew the Notes and what Sounded Good but it was something Missing, So during Covid I learned Music Theory and When You Get that Ah Moment and it Motivates You to Keep Going ! brYep Learn Song and You Will Suddenly Understand but it takes Focus , Circle of Fifths burn it in your brain and Master Your Scales💪🏾

Its not actually that hard to do the basics anyway I remember when i started getting into theory for my guitar (they used piano for reference) i realised i was already doing alot of it without realising (major/minor scales for example) It just puts a name to it

This is actually true, and great for, learning in general In all different, various areas It’s actually a concept used to learn much more, way faster; and to master concepts in entirety as well - of course, its use is purposeful in achieving that mastery at a faster rate

i have this thing for learning a new instrument that worked with me very well with guitar, Its my third day playing piano and i’m loving it, I started on the guitar by playing note by note, and learning the hardest songs I could, like hotel California and its solo, took me a while but finally got it, and at some point I did so many notes over and over that I automatically learned name of chords, and now I can use Gtabs for example to learn new songs easily hut always started harder than I shouldbrbrwith the piano I’m on my third day learning today, i’m about half way learning Clair de Lune (Slower but getting there) and I know at some point I will bottleneck and will need theory, but every time I started with theory I drop it and get bored, and again nobody is helping me but I really enjoy it!

I wish I learned this way Been at it for 4 years and all my teacher has really done is tell me to remember how to play the songs properly and give me a few pointers each class, but not even on piano as a whole just on playing that song Still forget what some notes are when learning a song, and the fun’s been long squeezed out

My Choir master thought me how to play drums His main focus was just to teach how to play rhythms of songs I eventually adapted to that reality until I came across the music theory for drums Introduced myself to rudiments and everything I had learned from my choir master began to make sense I was just apply stuffs to what I already knew and it was like damn sheeesh this sounds great! How come I didn’t know all this all this while #like my man said, its always the music first ❤
