As a first timer on this channel, i really appreciate this one, which came just at the right moment i've been learning both French besides Spanish, and plan on at least two more when i'm ready, so i needed a reminder of what small tips can actually help keep on and keep up, after i had learnt Farsi but unfortunately fell into the trap of enough exposure, little to to practice The key seems to be dedication, which is well-conveyed in this digestible episode Good luckbrPS Curious whether you'd consider taking up Arabic (my native tongue) one day Comment from : @jaafarsmahdawi6911 |

It seems pretty strange that Assimil got estabished in 1929, yet can't publish an english-learner's guide to Greek; they appear too Franco-centric and its not clear at all in your video which Assimil you used each morning Comment from : @SS-qo3nt |

I’m learning 3 languages at the same time and it’s French, spanish and Italian Comment from : @Ang3lalea |
|
|
After some trial and error, I've realized the best method that works for me is learning one at a time bc I can fully devote myself to one and I enjoy the feeling that comes with that I don't want to become a jack of all trades, master of none But the problem is I don't want to lose any of my French, so automatically that makes two languages for me I do get what he's saying about studying all three every day, but one of my languages is Mandarin, and that stuff takes up so much of my brain space and energy by virtue of just being so different So I'm alternating by doing Mandarin one day and French the following, and maybe squeeze in some Spanish if I'm feeling up to it So far that's led to less burnout, and I look forward to doing the other language the next day bc I find myself missing it Let's see if I crash and burn Comment from : @jaynem9896 |

Ciao, Luca I would like to learn more about your logbook, can you do a video explaining more about it? Comment from : @josebarbosa9537 |
|
|
|
|
I tried this in the past but I don't think learning more than one language from scratch is for me I got confused and kept forgetting things every time until I quit I started all over again but with fewer languages For instance, I'm improving my French and Italian, and I recently started to learn Dutch I spent one entire month reviewing and learning only French before starting a new language Now I think my French is much better Similar thing with Italian but to a lesser extent I've maintained my English because I consume many stuff in English nowadays Comment from : @mep6302 |

Thanks Luca, could you please explain what does "(L-R)" in your blog post mean? Comment from : @denis8559 |

Thanks for the advice and it has me leaning more to downsizing to 2 languages and not 3for now, I just have to be patient I have a year on Vietnamese, but a month on Tuvan and maybe a week on Mongolian But I didn't think to practice my weakest language first, I've generally put Vietnamese up first because it's my priority language as I m planning to go to Vietnam next year, but actually, I see the logic I do have a log, but I need to keep on top of it more and I need to organise myself better So I will take these points on board I am going to Vietnamese next year with aims for Mongolia the year after, so maybe I should be patient on the Tuvan brbrAnd planning around energy is a good point Because right now, I'm tired from working and commuting and I'm looking at the screen going "do I want to do any learning?" My job makes use of my brain for concentration and problem solving, so often-or-not, when it comes to the evening, it wants to just wind down Comment from : @sae2705 |

I found one advantage of learning russian is you can understand some Ukrainian too Comment from : @Himmelstrumerstudios |

I would not start learning 3 languages all at once, but I'm happy to report that since I've had 800 hrs in Portuguese (B1 now) and 350 hrs in Russian (between A1-2) that I might be able to dabble for half an hour in French if I choose to do so When I feel like I need a break from Russian and Portuguese Comment from : @thenaturalyogi5934 |

I'm just watching this because I'm a language nerd and can't really satisfy myself with just one languagebrI can speak portuguese, english and toki ponabrIt has 7 months since I started learning swedish and that's going really greatbrI'm thinking about adding italian to my journey, but I don't really want to lose my focus on swedishbrI learnt toki pona as a test while learning swedish, it did take 3 weeks (yeah toki pona is really a very tiny language), so I think it's possible to learn more languages at the same time, but it's going to be hard to give the same amount of time to each one Comment from : @etruscanetwork |

Ohh That's exactly what I do now, learn 3 languages xD Unfortunately I can't dedicate every single day for all three of them, I do normally 1-2 languages a day Comment from : @littledevil8146 |

I read that it’s recommended to only two at once but it depends on the person For example, I exposed myself to Russian in later high school and my 20’s However, Swedish is partly new and I am not sure if I am going to keep the Spanish or Norwegian Comment from : @MDobri-sy1ce |

My kids do 3 hours a day of chinese and 30 mins of a second language of their choice They are homeschooled so Chinese is part of homeschooling After 2 years of chinese my oldest begged to learn Korean so she started that a year ago She is very committed and studies every morning and doesn't want to give it up This year my son (8) asked to learn French so I put together materials for him and he's been studying every morning I don't think my daughter will get as far in Korean as in Chinese because there isn't the time But my son might get far in French because it's so similar to English They are intermediate level in Chinese and enjoy the language a lot They can have long conversations about all kinds of things (today they were talking about dinosaurs) and can enjoy movies and audiobooks I think their success in Mandarin is what motivates them to do another language since it isn't me pushing them at all I've even tried to convince my oldest to give up Korean Comment from : @pumpkinsandme6238 |

Like come on Hungary isn't the most popular country but among poliglots it's language thrives on popularity brBut let's be honest it is because there is a myth that says - it is the hardest one of them all Comment from : @hhh-yh8wn |

I admire your abilities and my Dad spoke 8 languages which he used in everyday life; a true polyglot Here's the thing He lived in those countries I speak 3 languages and find the cultural context of each paramount this is in no way a criticism, just comparing how we choose to acquire new means to communicate with each other Comment from : @evelynbaron8357 |

What a wonderful motivating video! I started out 2020 focused on five languages but decided to drop back to two I am enhancing my existing Spanish and participating in the revival of a California indigenous language which came close to dying out completely, Chochenyo, spoken by the Ohlone I just need to reverse my study strategy and save Spanish for second 🤦🏽♀️ Makes too much sense 🙏🏽 Thanks for the advice!!!! I am learning French because I love the language (A2 level) Korean because i always watch kdrama and listen to kpop everyday (beginner level) and decided to learn Arabic formally because I am working in a gulf country These reasons are enough for me to study well even at a slow pace May God help me 🙏😭 Comment from : @cmshgratitude5581 |

Loads of places say learning simultaneously is a big no no, but I'm learning Indonesian, Swahili and polish and it seems to be going fine, it's actually quicker than doing one at a time believe in yourselves people! Comment from : @matthewfoong |

|
I'm learning italian, german and russian at same time Italian it's really easy because i'm from Brazil So i speak Portuguese and both languages are extremely similar It makes things really simple and i still remember a lot of things of Spanish German it's kind of similar to english, not so much but it's not much of a big deal I'm making solid progressions so i'm ok with it But Russian that's a pain in the ass It's really really complicated to me first because of the alphabet Secondly there are some words that the western logic doesn't applies to the construction It's like tarzan speaking :" hi, me john" or even worse "taxi here (the taxi it's already here)" That's hard for me, but as long as i have time it's ok So it's turning out just fine And I think that the more languages you lear the more easier it gets because you have other things to compare like Portuguese- Italian If in the future i wish to learn Ukrainian it will be easier because I already know russian and their "logic" So don't waste tour precious time arguing politics in facebook or instagram go study, go work on yourself Comment from : @joseluizdurigon8893 |

I'm currently learning French and Polish separately and I've found that one advantage of learning two languages is that if I get too frustrated with one, I can take a "break" and switch to the other Comment from : @21hazza |

A few years ago I tried learning German and Russian at the same time and failed (and my German was already intermediate-advanced when I started with Russian); I ended up dropping Russian Currently I am learning Italian and Latin at the same time; I started only recently with Latin and have been learning Italian for a year and a half, and since I'm learning Latin only passively (reading and writing), it is much less time-consuming than Italian and the latter I already have at an intermediate-advanced level So the Italian-Latin combination is working really well for me (and I'm not confusing the languages at all since Latin is really passive and in the back-burner and my reason for learning it is reading and word etymology) and I'm learning both everyday I will re-start with Russian but only once I am done with my active learning phase for Italian That's the most I can take language-learning-wise and I don't really know how others go about learning several languages from 0 at the same time My hat's off to them Comment from : @vodkatonyq |
