I’ve been playing the cello for about 11 years and recently started the violin this week and have noticed that I’m improving very fast I feel like if you’ve played a string instrument before it will come much easier

So I’ve been self teaching and following your channel and your Patreon page Since late March early April I have gotten extremely good with the open strings and first finger placements I even started the second finger placement however I feel like my hand is stiff on the string and extremely slow I even got the first violin book and learned to play ode to joy Once I started playing the music i noticed again that my fingers are stiff slow and sluggish I know that practice makes perfect and the more you practice the more confident So I was wondering if there is finger exercises that will help relax your hands fingers and wrists? Also ode to joy is pretty much played on the g string so there has to be away that I can relax my hand and be more consistent and efficient while playing the notes

Concerning kids learning faster, my daughter often leaves me speechless when I see her progress on the violin After not having played for about 15 years myself, I have to fix lots of minor (and bigger) problems which aren’t problems to my daughter She just takes away what her teacher is saying or I‘m explain with no recognizable effort My hearing is pretty good but as she is blessed with perfect pitch I wonder whether she really likes to hear me practice 😂 She‘s also starting to take piano lessons after vacation Our piano arrived a few days ago Another instrument I haven’t played in years That’s why I love to review your videos to bring everything back into my mind

Hi Alison,brbrIm feeling really terrible after recently taking my piano grade 2 exambrI am still waiting for result but fearing the worst brMy preparation leading up to exam was spot on with plenty of practice, plenty of rest and expectations of a distinction of myself and from my Piano teacher after recent performance’s in lessons brI put so much time and effort into practice (around my full time job) that I felt confident, and not too nervous up until I sat down for exam and that was it, my concentration seemed to dessert me for no particular reason My performance was littered with mistakesbrIt upset me because im so passionate about playing piano and I couldn’t show examiner what I was capable ofbrI briefly spoke to my piano teacher about it and he said it probably wasn’t as bad as I thought, but I was there and it was badbrI guess I’m just seeking some words of comfort or a pick me up as I’ve been unable to sit at my piano since or even bring myself to open my grade 3 booksbrHave you had any similar experiences when you did your grades?brbrKind regards,brbrDavid

How about if I pass on learning to read music and play violin only by ear? In other words, putting the learning to read notation aside, how long before the bowing and fingering technique is at pro level? (I ask because I've been playing guitar and piano for fifty years and can't read a note)

I am a choir for 5yrs and maybe that gives me the edge to know the beatings, tempo, and some musical terms I just started to sight reading last month (3x a week) and I admit that it was so difficult to read when I follow the tempo (I am sight reading soprano notes only) and it was just 1 note Am I learning/ earning some point even if I don't have instrument? I mean, I practice my hand movement without the instrument (ex C major scale) brOr should I stop because it's wrong? atleast with the pianoit happens very fast if your serious about it Young children pick up on it even faster To play like an expert takes love and dedication But to fool a few friends takes as much work as it does to learn a new dancewith correct rhythm and movement With the piano if you practice a few times a few And have an instructor youll be able to fool people within a month or two To be an expert like player you have to be consumed by it and love it for about 4 years

I've watched your lessons 1-10 I got book one but have not moved onto it because I am still trying to play Gypsy Firelight at the slow speed It's tough to get up to speed Any advise? Should I keep at it until I've got it down or move onto the book or should I practice maybe the first song from the book AND Gypsy Firelight? Been working on Gypsy for about 3 weeks I am a bit of a perfectionist, so want to get Gypsy down for sure In your opinion, what would you do?
