All your so called 'proof' that children are intrinsically kind is flawed That kind of behavior is influenced by both nature and nurture I believe one baby crying triggering others to cry is that the ones who are triggered believe that, due to the first baby crying there is something to cry about so there is both imitation and fear involved, not altruism I wish the world was the way you see it Comment from : @saradejesus9869 |

I’ve found I disagree with the sentiment that the more easily disgusted you are, the more judgmental of our groups you are The thought of the cat made me physically ill; although the seat doesn’t bother me I’d like to consider myself to be accepted of almost all groups The only groups of people that I don’t like are p*dophiles, and zo*philes I could be an outlier however because I myself am a minority I’m transgender brIt’s also possible that the cat example triggers the sense of empathy and compassion because no one wants their pets to die Comment from : @Letmebecringe |

There are some VERY outdated approaches to topics in this video Saying women will perform worse because they had to identify themselves as a woman and they know women suck at tests is making a LOT of assumptions about what is going on in that person's head and what they may think about themselves in relation to society Comment from : @stormingcrow2541 |
How fascinating! There is also another talk by him, which I also found quite interesting, called "The Origins of Pleasure" on TED So interesting that even made a video based on it! Highly recommend Comment from : @beldonhuang |

@12:46 "But the difference was, before they entered the room, we sprayed the room with a fart spray People would be kind of grossed out And it would make them meaner"brbrAH HA! Thank you very interesting One thing I have noticed over the past two years is that those who have gone through media training tend to use their left hand more when talking My question is, is that done purposely, is the human brain more likely to trust someone using the left hand Or is it just a common pattern I've noticed? Love your series and thinking but concerned about the use of Hume and Locke, both who were proponents of 'scientific racism' Their thinking needs to be highlighted/asterisked as they were not part of a 'compassionate' thrust towards the majority of humankind Comment from : @Lighteningspirit |

I like your conclusions and I think you are promoting a positive interpretation of human psychology and behavior It gives hope for the future of humanity Therefore I am willing to overlook the many contradictions in the studies you quote, the shortcomings in your interpretation of results, and your choice to ignore/avoid studies that would oppose what you already believe to be true Comment from : @addisondraper6444 |

If you react to a story of an individual, instead of statistics, you are just on a low level of development Unfortunately, many women react like that They have to SEE the misery, before they have empathy Comment from : @meinungabundance7696 |

Dr Blum, there are no puzzles here DISGUST is one of our basic emotions, and it works on a SENSUAL basis Is in our "DNA", so to speak in order of avoiding a physical assault COMPASSION is an abstract philosophical principle, which can be learned Comment from : @meinungabundance7696 |
Compassion is not about liking someone's smell or touch of skin, compassion is more abstract I dont care about hugging everybody in my city, but I'll help them - financially or otherwise - if they need help Comment from : @meinungabundance7696 |

Real monsters are made by overriding their natural compassion I'm from the South hunting is common Most children don't like hunting they cry when the animal is killed and skinned It's only later when it is normalized did they regard the animal as expendable And it's the same with racism Finding out who is other and expendable is learned Comment from : @HallieEva |

Men cannot have unlimited numbers of offspring 80 continuous years of breeding conceiving two children per day is only 58k 62 of pregnancies and and roughly 5 of all children globally die before they eat reach the age of maturity That's still 11,000 Clearly not unlimited If a man were to make a baby that lived to the age of maturity every year past the age of 15 and he lived to be 95 that would be 80 children Really not unlimited amount of offspring Why do people always say that about men? Like men are somehow so unlimited and so powerful I call BS Comment from : @clarekramer411 |
These sound effects are so tacky Comment from : @rezzfracassi1712 |

disgust is a primeval survival trait Comment from : @sameetmehta2905 |

This video just came up on my YouTube feed and the speaker's name caught my attention, solely because of his later research and hypothesis regarding human empathybrProfessor Bloom came up with one of the worst ideas that I have ever encountered, one that the American right-wing was quite eager to spread as a valid way to regard one of our most basic and positive emotional qualities The idea was that empathy was a negative factor in our ability to make sound decisions in the most vital areas of society That we must suppress such emotions in order to think and act rationally in dealing with important issuesbrHe even went so far as to somehow blame empathy for bad decisions, hastily made in emotional reactions to serious problemsthis is complete nonsense, as our emotions are constantly being exploited and manipulated by the very forces that claim to supposedly favor solely rational thinkingbrI was quickly alarmed by the whole premise that he was presenting on an accompanying speaking tour and the more I watched, the more appalled I became that anyone could seriously entertain and posit such an anti-social idea, decrying one of our most basic emotional building blocks in the formation and maintenance of human societal interactionsbrWhat Professor Bloom completely missed, was that our emotions help to provide impetus for our actions in the first place and that relying only on cold technocratic thinking has never solved anything in a positive way, because it ignores the human factors necessary to understand human problems and how to implement solutions that humans will find satisfactorybrWe don't hear about this nonsensical hypothesis anymore, because it was never going to withstand any level of critical scrutiny in the first placebrJust a bit of context, in which to view anything that Prof Bloom has to offer us Comment from : @ivandafoe5451 |
