Sorry, I don’t think EVs will make up a majority of cars on the road for at least another 30 years simply because of all the problems they currently have Between the high cost of maintaining the vehicles, low resale value, unwillingness to upgrade infrastructure to accommodate EVs, poor battery efficiency, and the fact that two whole generations are struggling to even own a home to make use of home charging, I don’t see demand significantly moving up for several decades As much as I hate gas, it’s here to stay so learn to live with it

They have to start some actual EV service station, with coffee, food and maybe other amenities so people have something to do while charging and they will make money from these amenities as well It’s kinda the business model of regular gas station, isn’t it? If they do that, they would also have staff in site and maybe keep someone here to maintain the chargers I don’t know brI think they’ll figure it out eventually, there’s definitely money to be made in this business, but they have to incentivize people to come to them

I'm not sure your gas station vs charging station is fair When I require a fast charger, I find them at highway service stops (with restaurants, convenience stores & restrooms) along with gas pumps or at service stations that provide gas pumps as well as fast chargers and a convenience store You attribute the convenience sales on the gas side only In a fair comparison, convenience store sales and food revenues should be left out of the comparison

I’ve had my EV for 2 years now and have never experienced range or “will it start” anxiety It’s the best high ticket item purchase of my life At the end of the day, an EV charging station is a glorified wall outlet If one company (that everyone loves to hate) can operate a huge network with a positive gross margin, so can another No These companies don’t have to drastically increase their prices to become profitable They simply have to be better Tesla’s network is 48/5 rated and I’ve never had an experience with a charger that didn’t work (Tesla’s operational stats are 991 working 24/7) EV charging stations were never meant to be “as profitable” as gas stations It’s a different experience

Surely the solution to not knowing when a machine is broken, and indeed most of the problems identified, is to make electric charging another service offered at standard petrol stations (BP, Shell, and so on)

They would probably make a lot more money if they had receptacles for ebikes and escooters, i actually just found out you can buy an adapter to converts the ev charger to a regular nema 240v outlet, too much for your regular phone, but that's the perfect voltage to quick charge an electric scooter or bike, at least if you own a high-speed charger that can handle the voltage It still takes 4hrs to charge, but at least you'll never be stranded

Your overview of the charging industry has a gaping hole, it seems not to have heard of the existence of the largest charging company in the US, which is inot/i losing money The failures in the industry have bad equipment, bad software, bad service, and bad pricing, so failure is the inevitable outcome

I get the feeling this is why they made the $1 coin that no one in the USA uses Liberty, Sacagawea, and Innovation 8 gram copper coinbrbrAll they need to do is put in a good old fashioned payment box next to a set of say 12 chargers It has $1 slots for each station, of which will get you say 15 minutes of L2 chargingbrbrSaid box can be ethernet wired with bluetooth backup to the charging stations to know that payment has been made and to start charging Basically the same system as car parking lots

the most ideal future for EV’s is interchangeable battery packsbryou trade them similar to how you do propane tanks if your battery is low, you go to a station they pop out your current one, and replace it with a charged one and you pay a flat fee for the exchange just like propane cylinders fast, easy, and would theoretically take like 5 minutesbryes, you still have charging at home, work, shopping center, etc but this would easily fix a nagging problem with EV owners

You would think there would be a business in putting charging stations in the parking lots of large apartment complexes and condominiums The apartment or condominium could provide a complimentary number of kilowatt hours as part of their fee Ideally this would be less electricity than a person would use so that you could charge money for the additional hours

This is very interesting I have considered buying an ev but have decided against it because of the need charge on long distance trips The problems people have with charging stations are often in the news I didn’t know that it costs more to charge at a charging station than it does to buy gasoline Ultimately, we do need to make the change to EVs, but there are clearly a lot issues to deal with yet in making that transition

The only company doing it right really is Tesla A breeze to use Minimal to no friction with purchase It knows your car and you just plug in and charge No screen or payment options As company’s switch to NAC (Tesla) plugs they have a real leg up in the market to be a big charge player
