@theniftywarlock
Are there actual records of a grand vizier being sued by a peasant? And "Try suing a sitting US senator" if you had a case you could easily sue a senator The former president and one of the most famous people in the world is currently being sued by several "common" people I think you really underestimate how litigious America is :D
Comment from : @theniftywarlock

@cls4786
Economics of Ancient Egypt was in my opinion actually more complex than todays economy The simple evidence is it supported a 3000 yr dynasty
Comment from : @cls4786

@cls4786
Ancient Egypt is only among the first civilization as far as modern history can go Human societies have existed for millions or billions of years We can only account for 5000 yrs
Comment from : @cls4786

@terrylane1492
So technically speaking, for the Egyptians, money didn't grow on trees but instead grew on grasses! I always love learning new things, thank you
Comment from : @terrylane1492

@leomezza9853
were the ancient Egyptians technically socialist? they controlled the means of production (which was basically just grain)
Comment from : @leomezza9853

@szymonbaranowski8184
and somehow Ethiopians lived even 120 years while Egyptians died prematurely with all possible modern civilization diseases 😂
Comment from : @szymonbaranowski8184

@krude-ck3wy

An author called Mark Corrigan wrote a great book on the Egyptian economy Worth checking out, it's called "The Business Secrets of the Pharaohs"
Comment from : @jackphillpotts7064

@MyILoveMinecraft
A follow up would be nice on the Holy Roman Empire Its history was quiet impacted by financial instituions Jakob Fugger is a great example Also the beginnings of modern (italian) bookkeeping and how it brought down the hanse would make a normally dry topic intresting
Comment from : @MyILoveMinecraft

@jcarey568
ButI thought the ancient aliens built them 😂
Comment from : @jcarey568

@iamyourfan9729
More interesting topic: Economy before politicians
Comment from : @iamyourfan9729

@olly2515
see slavery wasnt so bad! black people got to learn useful new skills! Like picking cotton! And everybody benefited! The problem was that evil private buisnesses had slaves Black people should have been slaves to the state! We would have had cotton AND roads!
Comment from : @olly2515

@olly2515
"Slavery is cool as long as the state benefits!"
Comment from : @olly2515

@supercommie
Interesting thoughts Sounds like Egypt owed it's longevity to how well they organized their economy
Comment from : @supercommie

@BanjoSick
Finally Mark Corrigan released his «Business Secrets of the Pharaos»!!!brThank you, Mark!!!!!
Comment from : @BanjoSick

@frequentlycynical642
Very interesting Not pointed out directly, unlike small farmers do traditionally, they apparently didn't own the product of their labors They had to turn it over to the government I wonder how the government minimized theft, just keeping some for themselves Especially during famine
Comment from : @frequentlycynical642

@gaborszollosy2153

@NDRonin1401
NDRonin1401br0 seconds agobr06:48 there is not 1 cradle of civilization but 6brAnd when, incorrectly, talking about THE cradle of civilization it is refering to the 'fertile crescent' in which Egypt is generally not included
Comment from : @NDRonin1401

@chadkline4268
Maybe civilizations are a mistakebrDoes anyone ever consider that?
Comment from : @chadkline4268

@chadkline4268
I don't think it is proper or correct to associate Egyptians with the pyramids or sphinx The structures appear vastly more ancient than Egyptians
Comment from : @chadkline4268

@armorclasshero2103
Corvee was not slavery,it was labor tax and community service And the British didn't abolish it out of a love of liberty, they did it to break the culture and make them dependent on Britain
Comment from : @armorclasshero2103

@armorclasshero2103
Only western propagandized people are famously hard to please Most people for most of history were happy when their needs were met
Comment from : @armorclasshero2103

@stevearchtoe7039

Comment from : @ryanbianchi6582

Read "Debt: The First 5,000 Years" by David Graeber
Comment from : @markwrede8878

@georgecharnley2051
There were other major civilisations before Egypt that were wiped out by the flood of the Younger Dryas event about 12,000 years ago Check out the land mass under the ocean in Indonesia (Sundaland) that would have been above sea level and a tropical paradise towards the end of the last ice age brbrAlso check out the theories about the floods over Africa at the same time period and the Richat Structure as a potential site for Atlantis Lots of evidence (eg Gobekli Tepe) of people with knowledge of Astronomy from over 10,000 years ago Also lots of evidence of civilisations in Central / South America, eg the Olmecs who carved huge stone heads we still have today Most religions have in their stories a tale about a great flood that wiped out everything, followed by people coming with knowledge to recivilise their society
Comment from : @georgecharnley2051

@erikbudrow1255
People do change thoughthat's what culture, psychology, and sociology are all about

Comment from : @alexklemens6005

@stoianandreimircea1509
I love this channel and as I suck I'm not going to be hard with the critics but you are no historian and the reality is not even the history themselves agree that the Egyptian culture was the first

Comment from : @letsRegulateSociopaths

@x12danx
Im not an economist by any means but doesn’t every economy, even primitive ones get affected by inflation and deflation, especially if they have a pseudo currency system?
Comment from : @x12danx

@robertwilliams3527
Been watching this while I eat for a while now
Comment from : @robertwilliams3527

@martindarmanie6854
The pyramids predated ancient Egypt Ancient egyptians repaired and added other structures around these megaliths afterwards
Comment from : @martindarmanie6854

@Marconius6
The Catholic Church acting as a central bank and government? How silly, that would never-- wait no, that's the Papal States, that literally happened
Comment from : @Marconius6

@udavster
I assure you, suing a senator is real, and I don't know why you would assume it is less real than sueing veseer in ancient Egypt I don't think that we have a lot of evidence for that
Comment from : @udavster

@aurorajones8481
You neglect to mention there is absolutely no egyptian writings of them building the pyramids They found the site and built upon it
Comment from : @aurorajones8481

@lordrork5884
Modern society: "Money doesn't grow on trees"brAncient Egypt: "Let me introduce you to grain"

Comment from : @AckAttack77

@sonykusumasmoro6811
I thought the general understanding now is that Pyramid was built at least 8000 BCbrPredates the known ancient Egyptian era
Comment from : @sonykusumasmoro6811

@TheAnimesongster3
Will be interesting if corvee is implemented in the modern day society as a form of community service, or as a services-for-services system in the case of those unemployed in return for a roof over their heads and food provided for by the state
Comment from : @TheAnimesongster3

@marcusmoonstein242
Three thousand years is an incredibly long time for a single civilization to last I know one of the reasons other major river civilizations collapsed after only a few hundred years was the inevitable bloating of the aristocracy, bureaucracy and military Eventually the cost of running the civilization simply became more than the resources they had available I wonder exactly how the Egyptians managed to avoid this government bloat? There could be some lessons for our modern civilization here
Comment from : @marcusmoonstein242

@donwald3436
0:43 not having the records burned by religious zealots also helps
Comment from : @donwald3436

@ChadZLumenarcus
This was a great talk about this subject
Comment from : @ChadZLumenarcus

@JohnAugustSydney
I've written about Modern Monetary Theory, and how it relates to the history of Egypt and Rome, including how grain was originally used as money, eventually resulting in money itself I'm not making a direct reference, as YT will c*****r it, but feel welcome to look it up
